Chapter 1,Part: 1

Days till Dia De Venus: 7

Tony De Luca slammed his empty whiskey glass on the table, drawing the attention of the large group of gold-clad vigilantes that were previously chattering within the dusty motel lobby "You guys sure did screw the pooch on this one. I tell ya, when I heard that D.K. got locked up by that jabroni Styx, I knew you guys were gonna scramble around for awhile, but goddammit I never thought you'd  lose your balls along with him!"

The tension within the room intensified, as the Midas branch of the Angels of Mercy (A.K.A The Midas Vigilantes) absorbed the words that rained down on them. No one dared say a word in their defense, so Merci did. "Come on Tony cut em' some slack, Venus Junction isn't the easiest city for vigilantes to thrive." she stroked her hands through his hair as she spoke "And its not like there's anyone in this screwed up city that could replace D.K. Midas."

"That ain't no excuse Merci. It's been ten years, ten *vulgarity*ing years! That's more than enough time to get off your asses and bust some Syndicate skulls!"  Just then, the front door to the motel swung open followed by the collective click the Midas Vigilantes’ guns.

"Calm down people." chuckled the Conspiracist from behind his mask as he entered the abandoned motel, followed by Helenas and Gracie "If you were as efficient as you were jumpy we wouldn't have to be here." he walked through the crowd and sat across from Tony "What's wrong with you DeLuca?"

Tony kissed Merci's hand as she walked over to Helenas and Gracie, smiling as she greeted them, "So what did the bastard say?" asked Tony as he turned his attention to his masked friend.

"He said he'll think about it."

"He'll think about it? Without him we don't have a plan, Conspiracist!" exclaimed Tony in response to the Conspiracist’s answer.

The Conspiracist shot up out his seat and slammed the table making everyone jump as they focused on the two men "What the hell did you want me to do DeLuca, tie him up and drag him here!?"

Tony DeLuca placed his hands on the table and started to stand up when one of the Midas vigilantes ran into the lobby from upstairs "At least a dozen unmarked vans are heading this way!"

"How long!?" responded DeLuca forgetting the argument he was in.

"Ten, maybe fifteen minutes."

In a sudden burst of clamor, the Midas vigilantes started to panic, shouting cries of dread and horror. They went on for a few seconds until the Conspiracist had had enough "Calm down you friggin idiots! No wonder this city is run by the Syndicate, they are not even here yet and you’re pissin your pants. We planned for this didn't we!? Now everyone calm the *vulgarity* down and do as we planned!"

The battalion of black unmarked vans circled the old motel like a pack of wolves until the building seemed to be encircled by a moat of darkness. After a few torturous seconds, a towering Asian man with furious eyes and a grisly scowl appeared from one of the vans and began approaching the motel. Soon after he made his first steps, he was followed by the sound of doors opening and slamming shut, as well as the tapping of feet as the small army of thugs filled behind him. They moved as one unit, the stripes of their suits vanishing and reappearing as they stepped in and out of the streetlights.

"Remember boys," growled the statuesque man, "The boss only wants De Luca and the Conspiracist; it's open season on everyone else." with speed and force akin to a jackhammer, the leader of the thugs kicked open the door causing a plume of dust to explode upon him. Without command, the gangsters rushed passed their leader and swarmed into the hotel screaming and jeering as they searched for the Angels.

The chaotic symphony of destruction permeated the lobby of the motel as the thugs trashed everything in their search for the vigilantes. In the midst of the chaos, one of the thugs approached the leader, “There’s no one down here Saigo, they must be hiding upstairs."

"Then why are you here talking to me? Find them!"

As if set on fire, the gangster and his allies sped up the stairs to the upper-levels shouting threats and slurs with vicious glee as they continued there search for the Angels of Mercy. In a room on the fifth and highest floor of the hotel, De Luca sat in a large couch with Merci on his lap, and a small group of Midas Vigilantes spread across the room.

"You think the others will be o.k.?" purred Merci as she fiddled with knife with deft grace.

The muffled sounds of gunfire and battle leaked into the room followed by faint vibrations and the nervous fidgeting of the Midas Vigilantes in the room. "They've been through worst; I just hope Conspiracist's plan works.

On the second floor of the hotel powdery dust and the odor of gunpowder soaked the air as fists and gunfire flew into gangsters and vigilantes alike. In the midst of the violence and debris, Helenas fought with the skill of a Valkyrie and the savagery of a lioness; striking thugs down with both, her fists, and her rifle "There's more than I thought. Guide my hand oh Lord, and shield me as I smite mine enemies."

Four vigilantes circled Helenas firing wild shots at the incoming wave of thugs that were charging towards her with unrelenting ferocity. "Are you o.k. miss Helenas?" asked one of the vigilantes amidst the roar of gunfire.

Helenas turned her sights to the stairs that lead to the upper levels to see a thug heading towards them, "Not a step further." Helenas lifted her rifle and fired a shot that flew through the air and ripped a hole through the thugs head sending splatters of blood and grey matter into the air "Everyone to the stairs, hold back as many as you can!"

The vigilantes congregated at the gates creating a wall of guns and fists with the Helenas dressed in her white armor in the front. The cluster of gunmen that stood behind Helenas trembled with fear and excitement as a larger wave of thugs charged towards them. Helenas charged at the wave with the Midas Vigilantes close behind her, as they collided with the thugs the building began to tremble beneath the force of the confrontation. In the midst of the battle, Helenas lashed out at her enemy as if she battled a horde of demons; breaking bone and shattering skulls with every fist thrown and shot fired.

On the other side of the fray, Saigo moved like a storm, each kick he launched at a foe sent multiple men flying into their allies; his fists moved with unnatural speed colliding with bodies like a jackhammer made of flesh and bone. As he cut a path through the crowd, the distance between Helenas and him melted away until the two warriors were face to face.

Helenas fired a stake at Saigo who dodged the stake with violent grace. Helenas fired another shot, this time Saigo caught the stake and lodged it into the throat of a nearby Angel of Mercy. "He moves like a demon!" whispered Helenas under her breath as Saigo shot into the air launching a kick towards Helenas with frightening speed. Helenas took the blow without flinching, she held on to Saigo's foot with all her strength twisting it as she fell to the floor. Saigo turned his body in the direction Helenas twisted his leg surprising her enough that her grip weakened.

Saigo wrenched his foot from Helenas' grip and joined the thugs who had managed to get passed the Angels as they climbed the stairs to the next floor. Helenas rolled to a corner away from the still raging battle and took out a comm-device, "Gracie, their heading your way."

Saigo and his men erupted on to the third floor of the motel ready to fight, but the entire floor was eerily quite and empty. Bewilderment was branded on their faces as they searched each empty room, until the sound of gunfire echoed through the halls. The gangster flooded into the room to see two of there own men lying on the floor with blood oozing from gaping holes in their skulls.

"It looks like whom ever shot them escaped." growled Saigo. Just as he was about give out orders another shot was heard amongst the crowd, "Who the hell?" another gunshot was fired, and two more men fell.

"Traitor!" shouted one of the men with a gun pointed at a visibly confused thug who held a pistol in his hand "I saw him shoot Denny!"

"I was defending myself; Denny was the traitor!" responded the accused thug who now had his gun ready to fire, “You’re probably working with him!"

Another shot was fired frighten the men into shooting each other. Cries of traitor started flying around the room as more and more men started to fire on their friends. Saigo signaled the few men who had remained calm and quietly started to climb the stairs to the fourth floor of the building.

Gracie's body sat slumped in one of the vents in the ceiling above the confusing ensuing on the third floor. With a sudden gasp, her body became rigid and her eyes snapped open, she took out a comm-device and whispered into it, "Alright Conspiracist, the leader and about fifteen men are heading your way. I'll finish off here and help Helen downstairs,†she placed the device into her pocket and her body went limp once more.

The Conspiracist placed his comm-device into his pocket and turned to the Angels of Mercy in the room with him "O.k., don't even think about touching your triggers until I give the word; got it?"

The vigilantes nodded silently and gripped their weapons.

"Good." The Conspiracist pulled out two pistols and as the sounds of running feet speed passed the door he shouted, "Now!" and kicked open the door, firing shots at the backs of the thugs as he rolled across the floor followed by the Midas Vigilantes.

"Don't stop shouted Saigo as his comrades where struck down by the swarm of bullets.

The Conspiracist watched as the surviving gunmen ran up the stairs to the top floor and allowed a smile of satisfaction to grow behind his mask. "Good job boys." praised the masked vigilante as he took out his comm-device "Five men are heading your way De Luca, you better get ready."

Saigo's men entered De Luca's room and were met with a barrage of gunfire that ripped through their unprepared bodies sending screams and blood flying through the air. Saigo stepped over the bloody corpses smiling as his eyes met with De Luca's, "Do you think you've won De Luca? You're out numbered and out gunned."

Merci slid off of De Luca's lap allowing him to stand up, "I wouldn't be too sure about me being out gunned buddy." the vigilantes in the room cocked their guns and aimed it at Saigo's head "Now, what’s gonna happen is, I'm gonna ask you some questions about Mr. Styx. Then you're gonna be a good boy and answer them; capicé?"

Saigo let out a vulgar laugh and shook his head "Do you think Mr. Styx is the only crime-lord in Venus Junction that that wants your head? You've broken almost every crime law in this city; whether you wanted to or not you've drawn the attention of the big five, which means every crime boss, gang leader, assassin and gangster is coming after you." he chuckled and spat on the carpeted floor "I give you about three days before someone dusts or kidnaps you."

"Took you long enough.†exclaimed De Luca as Gracie, Conspiracist, and the blood coated Helenas walked into the room followed by a group of Midas Vigilantes.

"We did it." gasped one of the vigilantes as he gazed at the bodies strewn about the motel room "They had more weapons and more men but we still one!"

"Don't get a semi just yet kid" chuckled Conspiracist as he walked passed Saigo and stood next to De Luca "Gracie, you know what to do."

Gracie sat in one of the many plush couches in the room and closed her eyes, allowing her body slump into the soft cushions. Saigo's body tensed and veins crept up against his skull as the muscles around his jaws became more defined. Sweat leaked from his head and fell to the floor like salty rain drops until  his neck snapped back with a bone chilling snap that could be heard throughout the room. As his body fell to the floor, a loud gasp came from Gracie's body.

Merci ran over to Gracie's trembling body and dried the sweat from her head "What happened?"

"He willed himself to death; that was the first time someone has ever done that." replied Gracie between gulps of air "I almost went along with him."

The Conspiracist walked over to Saigo's body and began rummaging through his pockets, "Did you manage to get anything from him?"

Merci helped Gracie stand up as she took a glass of water from Helenas, "Not much; all I managed to get was a basic info on the Shadow Brig."

"Well then get talking; we ain't got all day!" retorted De Luca.

Gracie guzzled down the water and sighed as if a burden was lifted from her shoulders "I need a pen and something to draw on."

After receiving what she needed, Gracie drew a large circle on the paper she had received; after drawing the circle, she drew a large five-pointed star in the middle of it. "The circle is Venus Junction." she started in as she began to draw letters on the points of the star "The star, is the basic shape and size of the Shadow Brig compared to the size of Venus Junction."

"It's almost the size of the city itself." replied Helenas audibly impressed.

"It's bigger. From what I could get from tough guy over there, the Shadow Brig has no bottom."

De Luca scoffed and shook his head "That ain't possible, it has to end somewhere."

"Well if it does he didn't doesn't know where it stops."

"What about the prison; does he know about the secret path into the prison?"

"Well De Luca, that where things get ugly." sighed Gracie "The Shadow Brig is divided into six sections; the five points are divided between the 'Big Five'; Don Francis,  Dame Fae, Madam Baku, Boss Tian and Mr. Styx. The area in the center is neutral ground monitored by the Syndicate.  Both the Balor Detention Facility and the secret path into it are in Mr. Styx’s territory." she turned to Saigo "He worked for Madam Baku, so he doesn't know diddly about how to find the path."

De Luca turned to The Conspiracist and lit a cigarette "Well Con, looks like you're gonna have tie that bastard up cause' there ain't no other way we're gettin into that prison.
