I'm conflicted about whether a military drill instructor would be best or worst in this situation.

In any case, I think Herman Boone probably brings more experience dealing with different personalities to this match.

Boone was Remember the Titans right? He kind of did exactly that. In fact he was sort of a light weight Sargant Slaughter with his training. And he wasn't nice. And half the team didn't like him. With that I think the kids would be more scared of Slaughter and do what he says, when he say until he says stop. 

I say Slaughter.

Voted for Herman, he is a football coach after all. I picked him because I love football and two I am from Northern Virginia and he is a local legend.

Yeah, I think the experience just gives Boone too much of an edge. Slaughter might be a better coach-type for the personalities of the inmates, but Boone's experience means his team would certainly do better

The scenario is based on the "Longest Yard", but the description doesn't mention football directly.

So if it's about making the best Football team Boone's got a better chance at winning, but if it's about who can shape this kind a group in to the most effective team in general then it's basically a day at the office for Slaughter.

Even if it is football specifically Slaughter did play football so he might be ok.
