Match 17084 Michelangelo (Mirage) vs. Michelangelo (2012)

Raphael couldn’t help but think of the lessons which Master Splinter had imparted onto him and his brothers, and the conversations and times where the old rat had attempted to temper the mutant Red Ear Slider’s seemingly ever flaring anger. It hadn’t been until a fateful meeting with Casey Jones and a few close calls to death in his time as a ninja over the years that Raphael had learned the consequences of letting his anger go unchecked. But with time came experience, and with experience came wisdom. But never did he think that he would face an outward manifestation of the anger which still burned within him. He thought of Master Splinter and how he would’ve commented on the irony of it all. Master Splinter always said that anger clouds the mind, and that turned inward it is an unconquerable enemy— but Raphael faced it directly now in the form of his green eyed doppelganger. Perhaps this very battle was a lesson in of itself, a reminder of the constant danger of allowing the anger within going unchecked potentially put him and everyone else in. He would do well to learn from this experience.

Raphael watched as his green eyed counterpart rushed at him, and already was on the offensive. The green eyed Turtle immediately turned with his weight as he thrust his sai forward and out as he took aim for Raphael’s mid-section, but the older Turtle had moved his own pronged weapons, intercepting and diverting his counterpart’s strikes away from him. The younger Turtle then spun his twin sai within his grasp and then aimed to thrust them down for the top of his opponent’s shoulders, but the older Raphael crossed his sai overhead and caught the other Turtle’s weapons, only to part his arms and create an opening. Spinning his own sai within his grasp, Raphael turned wish his hips and he thrust his arms forward, slamming the blunt ends of his sai handles firmly into the plastron of the green eyed doppelganger and he didn’t relent in the force of his impacts either. Raphael watched as the other Raphael’s eyes widened, his cheeks puffing with air as the wind had been knocked out from him. Without missing a beat, the mutant Red Ear Slider then moved his right arm across, bending his elbow out and firmly struck it across the other Turtle’s head right along the side. This caused the other Raphael to experience a brief loss in his senses as well as momentary disorientation. Following up with this, Raphael then swung his right arm upward and impacted his fist directly into the other Raphael’s chin.

“UNNNGH!”

The doppelganger was sent flying back, crashing into a pile of trash cans. He shook his head, working to fight of the pain which was throbbing in his head and tried to regain his senses. When the pain had dulled down and his senses returned, the green-eyed Raphael now shot a glare to the older reptile. But that glare turned to immediate shock as he watched as  Raphael came at him from above with his own sai facing down. The doppelganger immediately shifted to his right, rolling away from his opponent as he came down and thrust his sai down only to miss the green eyed terrapin.

“Alright! You wanna play that way? Fine but don’t go crying when I run you down and make you a wall ornament!” The younger Raphael shouted.

Raphael just looked to his counterpart and didn’t even waste time with words. Quickly, he rushed right in towards his opponent and thrust his twin sai out twice as he took aim for the doppelganger’s mid-section. The green-eyed Turtle swerved out of the way of the incoming thrusts and retaliated by turning in a spin and snapping his right leg out in a side kick aimed out for Raphael’s face. Raphael hunched down and managed to evade the incoming kick, and spun his twin sai firmly within his hands, now taking aim for the other’s face and he unleashed three straight punches for the green-eyed Turtle. The younger Raphael crossed his arms out in front of himself, blocking the strikes with his forearms as he tensed up his muscles, aiming to better endure the impacts. The younger Raphael responded by swinging his left arm down across to the right, performing a low roundhouse to strike at the older Turtle’s legs. The older Turtle raised his right leg up, taking the blow as he blocked it.

Raphael then thrust both his arms out— firmly striking into the plastron of the doppelganger.

“AAAACK!”

The younger Turtle was sent stumbling.

Raphael rushed forward, now firmly planting a foot onto the thigh of his opponent, then kicking up with his standing leg which happened to be his right and then threw his weight up and back— performing a reverse somersault off his opponent, and firmly slamming his right foot up into the other Raphael’s chin.

The green-eyed Turtle now stumbled back as he shut his eyes in agony and worked to fight through the pain as he now drew upon the growing flame of rage within himself as a source of strength. He firmly gripped his sai in hand and glared upon the older Turtle as he growled. The doppelganger now rushed right in towards his opponent, and he turned in a spin only to raise his left leg up and brought it down in an overhead axe kick. Raphael raised his left arm up and positioned his forearm horizontally, now tensing as he took the brunt of the kick and skid back— and the green-eyed Raphael saw an opportunity to seize. Twirling the twin sai within his grasp, he now had the blunt ends facing forward only to then shift forward and he thrust his arms outward four times, firmly impacting the older Turtle onto his plastron. Caught off guard, Raphael grunted from the impacts and staggered. Immediately, the other Raphael, leapt forward and took aim for his opponent’s face, now firmly thrusting his right arm out and firmly slammed the blunt end of his sai handle into the middle of his aggressive opponent’s face.

“FUCK!!”

Raphael dropped onto his carapace, and he worked to fight through the pain which his head was ringing with. He widened his eyes open, now glaring to the younger green-eyed Terrapin with a spark of anger.

The green-eyed counterpart smirked and rushed right in towards Raphael, now spinning his sai and he thrust both his weapons outward but Raphael moved his own pronged weapons out and intercepted his opponent’s. Both Raphael’s now were locked, both trying to overwhelm the other as they tensed and flexed as they twisted and pushed their weapons forward, attempting to break the other’s weapons. Raphael growled as he now pushed forward with his weight, causing his doppelganger to step back and he caused the other to slam into the brick wall behind him. The younger Turtle grunted and responded as he then slammed his left foot down onto the more aggressive Raphael’s foot, and then he leaned forward thrust his head— effectively head butting Raphael.

Stumbling away from his opponent, Raphael again briefly lost his senses and the throbbing pain in his head was further added upon. The green-eyed Turtle then rushed in, pouncing forward again and then leapt to the air, turning with his weight and then swung his left leg across followed along with his right—firmly striking his feet across Raphael’s face, and followed up by then swinging his right arm across, firmly impacting the blunt handle of his sai onto the cheek of his opponent, causing the more aggressive Turtle to drop onto his side.

“Geeze, I didn’t think that Raphael would get it this bad!” Michelangelo spoke.

“Whoever and wherever these Turtles come from, they’ve been trained well.” Leonardo responded.

The doppelganger pounced forward and faced his sai forward, now aiming to dive down onto Raphael. The red masked older Turtle looked up, now watching as his opponent came diving at him. Quickly, he threw his weight to the side and rolled away from the green-eyed Turtle, and quickly sprawled onto his feet. Clasping his twin sai together and holding them in his left hand, Raphael moved his right hand down to his utility belt and now took hold of a smoke pellet. The other Turtle now turned as he had missed his mark, now facing Raphael and rushed at him but the older Turtle then threw his right hand down and tossed the pellet at his opponent’s feet. Smoke wafted up and spread through the area, and this caused the green-eyed Raphael to stop in his assault as he now coughed from having unintentionally breathed in the smell of sulfur and smoke.

Suddenly, the doppelganger was pushed forward as something had rammed into him and his carapace slammed down into the brick wall once again. As he registered what had occurred, the doppelganger suddenly realized that his opponent was upon him. Raphael gripped his twin sai in hand, tucked between his fingers and held in reverse as he then thrust his arms— punching the blunt end handles of his weapons firmly into the face of the green eyed Turtle. He leaned forward, now firmly pressing his left forearm down onto the throat of the younger Turtle, causing him to gag and cough out but then Raphael added more to the punishment as he then pumped his right arm forward several times, firmly striking his sai handle into the mid-section of his counterpart. Raphael firmly pressed his forearm down harder onto his counterpart’s neck, aiming to choke the strength out of his opponent.

Raphael released his opponent, allowing him to drop onto his feet but then snapped his right leg out in a front kick—firmly striking his enemy onto the side and sent him stumbling in towards another group of trash cans.

“You were talking all that big shit a second ago! What happened? Here’s a lesson… How about don’t!” Raphael spat.

The green-eyed counterpart growled and roared in fury as he now planted his knuckles onto the ground and pushed himself up onto his feet. He rushed ahead now and zeroed right in on Raphael. The doppelganger then snapped his left leg out in a front kick, but Raphael side-stepped to his right and evaded the attack. The other Raphael then turned to meet his opponent and he thrust his sai forward as he took aim for Raphael’s chest. However, Raphael deflected the incoming sai away from himself and diverted the weapons away from him. The doppelganger then pounced forward and he raised his left leg up, only to then snap his right leg out for the face of Raphael, but the older Turtle side-stepped out of the way and the doppelganger hit nothing but air.

Raphael then moved his hands down, slipping his weapons firmly into his belt. The other Raphael then roared out as he pounced again, moving towards his opponent as he then thrust his left arm down in an attempt to jab his sai down onto the left shoulder of his opponent. However, Raphael then moved his right arm up and positioned his forearm horizontally, blocking the wrist of the other Raphael and preventing his strike. Quickly moving his arm to push the weapon away from him, and took hold of the doppelganger. Using the momentum of his opponent’s attack, Raphael turned in a spin and then threw his counterpart across the alley. The other Turtle slammed down onto his carapace and grunted in discomfort and pain as he writhed for a moment. He took in several deep breaths, the anger inside of him burning hot and ready to explode at any given moment.

The green-eyed Raphael pushed himself to his feet and began hyperventilating.

“GRRAAAAAAAAAGGGHH!!”

Raphael just narrowed his eyes at the anger which his counterpart unleashed. Now he completely understood what Master Splinter had been trying to teach him all those years through the lessons and conversations which they shared. This truly was a manifestation of the anger which he fought within. Raphael knew that when controlled… this anger could be a great asset but if unchecked… it would be his undoing, like it had nearly been many times in early on in his career as a ninja and vigilante.

The duplicate roared out once more and rushed right in, empowered by his rage and sought to break the older Turtle. Raphael moved his hands down, once more taking a hold of the handles of his twin sai and pulled them from his utility belt. Ready to confront the outward manifestation of his rage, Raphael stood his ground as the duplicate drew closer and closer.

And again, collision happened.

The two Raphael’s lashed out with their twin sai, slashing and thrusting, catching and deflecting each other’s strikes. Both growled, grunted and yelled as they were on the warpath. Leonardo, Michelangelo and Donatello— from both Turtle teams watched on with interest and suspense. It seemed as if both Raphael’s are neck and neck in terms of tenacity and will, as neither had been able to overwhelm the other in getting through their defenses. Metal clashed, echoing through the alley as the two Turtles feverishly fought. Both thrust their pronged weapons forward, catching each other and now once more they were in a struggle of strength. However, Raphael pounced forward and he thrust his right leg up, impacting his knee firmly into the chin of his doppelganger, causing him to stumble as his head was forced back. The red masked older Turtle then leaned forward and firmly planted his hands onto the ground and he kicked his feet forward, slamming them into the plastron of his opponent— sending him further back.

Raphael then dropped his sai onto the ground and rushed in towards his younger counterpart and strafed around him on his left, now wrapping his arms firmly around the other Raphael’s mid-section. Without any hesitation, Raphael tensed up his leg muscles and lifted up his opponent’s body weight and leaned back. The duplicate widened his green colored eyes and suddenly—as his carapace hit the ground, darkness then claimed his vision and silence overtook him. His body went limp and there was no movement from the younger Raphael.

The match was over.

Raphael gave a hard stare to his younger counterpart and stared for a moment before he turned, grabbing his discarded sai before he slipped them back into his utility belt and moved back over towards his brothers. There was a sense of accomplishment which he felt, knowing that he had conquered an ironic manifestation of his own greatest flaw. A constant reminder of the battle he himself fought within.

“Nice work there, Raph.” Donatello smiled.

Leonardo looked over to his hot-headed brother and nodded in approval of his brother’s hard earned victory and even he appreciated the irony of Raphael defeating another variant who seemingly didn’t have as much control of his own anger. Michelangelo raised his hands and Raphael moved his own—slapping Michelangelo’s palms in celebration of his own victory.

“Kicked ass out there, man!” Michelangelo grinned.

“Well, Mikey, I guess it’s just you and me!” The purple masked Donatello spoke as he looked over to his younger sibling.

“I guess it’s our time to shine!” The orange masked Michelangelo responded.

The orange masked duplicate then stepped forward with a grin on his face as he looked over to the four red masked Turtles and paused in his tracks. Quickly, he then had moved his hands down and took hold of his twin nunchaku only to draw them out and skillfully twirled them as a display of his level of skill. This was something which Michelangelo, the red masked Michelangelo, couldn’t help but blink and nod his head at.

“Alright, I guess I’m up.”

The two Michelangelo’s now stepped towards one another, staring upon one another and sized each other up. Out of all the Turtles, the differences between the two were clear and staggering. The orange masked variant appeared to be quite young and even seemed to be childlike as far as demeanor was concerned. Even his eyes conveyed an innocence which the red masked ninja seemingly lacked.

Michelangelo, the red masked Turtle, moved his hands down and he took hold of his own twin nunchaku. He kept his gaze on the younger variation of himself and he was mildly curious about how this version of him would hold up in a fight. Seeing his level of skill with the nunchaku seemed to have impressed him a little bit, but he was curious if this Michelangelo was at all like the previous versions of himself he had managed to meet prior.

“Hey other Mikey, wanna get some pizza after this?”

The red masked ninja just blankly stared upon his orange masked counterpart and he couldn’t help but think back of the two other orange masked counterparts he had met before. It seemed as if this was a constant in the multiverse, and he couldn’t help but wonder… why? He turned and looked over to his brothers with a slight look of embarrassment and then returned his attention to his doppelganger. Michelangelo couldn’t help but actually take in a deep breath of air and then released a sigh from within.

“Look, we’re gonna see what happens… Just, don’t say anything like Cowabunga or Ninja Time!”

“Alright, let’s get started! BOOYAKASHA!”

Michelangelo just blinked hard and then he twirled his twin nunchaku within his hands, displaying his own level of skill as he had swung them across horizontally and then vertically and finally in a figure eight motion as he then swung them down and tucked them underneath his arms. And the red masked ninja then set himself into his own fighting stance and gave his orange masked variant a hard stare. Michelangelo couldn’t help but ponder…

“Why are all the different versions of myself pizza obsessed and throwing catchphrases? Like… seriously, what the hell gives?” He spoke to himself.

The orange masked Michelangelo also twirled his twin nunchaku as a response to the red masked Turtle’s level of skill. He moved his nunchaku in circles as he would spin them, then swung them horizontally and then upward and down before tucking his nunchaku underneath his arms.

The two Michelangelo’s stared upon one another— and then rushed right in before they collided.

The battle of the two Michelangelo’s kicked off…  Only one would walk out of this.

The next match up in my Mirage Turtles storyline is finally posted up. Writing out the recap between Mirage Raphael and Raphael 2012 was interesting because the votes were one sided in favor of Mirage Raphael, and yet I personally feel like it wouldn't be a complete landslide in favor of Mirage Raphael. The reason why I am doing these mirror matches, despite them possibly being predictable is because this is more of a developmental segment for the Mirage Turtles where they have to face their own flaws, and in the case of Raphael, it was fighting an outward manifestation of his own anger through Raphael 2012. So it's the same thing which Mirage Michelangelo here, in that he's going to be fighting Michelangelo 2012 and has to face the reputation which all other Michelangelo's have wrongly placed on him such as him being a pizza eating and catchphrase slinging personality. But what I can say is that after this set of Mirror Matches, I don't think I'm going to be doing them anymore and instead will get back to the Turtles fighting different characters from comics, movies and video games.

I feel like it will go like the last couple. I believe the Mirage versions are some of the most skilled of the different iterations of the turtles. With that said,I think the 2012 version should put up a nice bout, I just don't see that version beating the Mirage version

Fair enough! The idea of the Mirror Matches was to obviously mix things up and of course have the Turtles fight physical outward manifestations of themselves along with their flaws, and perhaps ill-concieved notions of themselves-- such as the case with Michelangelo.

I feel like he is the Turtle who's suffered the most since the 1987 cartoon series portrayed him as a pizza obsessed, catchphrase slinging parody of the original Michelangelo. And later incarnations more or less took this to further extremes such as the 2003 and 2012 incarnations, the latter being the most exaggerated as he was portrayed as a happy, go lucky bafoon-- where as the original Mirage Michelangelo, while portrayed as being laid back, wasn't even what his later incarnations presented him as, since he was more of a creative and thoughtful person who expressed himself in writing.

My goal long term is to have the Turtles fight opponents and have them work their way to fighting Marvel and DC characters. To narratively prepare them for fighting these characters as these matches go on.

I feel like it would have to be a combination of quantity and quality of opponents if I want to have the Mirage Turtles fight characters like Punisher, Daredevil, some of the Avengers, Bat Family, X-Men etc.

I will echo what others have said and even myself in the previous match. While I may feel this particular grouping lacks any real suspense, it is still greatly elevated by your recaps and your growing creativity in painting the pictures of these fights. Keep it up and I remain intrigued on what challenge is laying around the corner.

Well, the idea of the Turtles fighting another group of Turtles is more or less them fighting their own flaws and aiming to become better ninjas. Leo had to fight his own perfectionism and self doubts, Raphael had to fight over his ever flaring anger, Michelangelo is fighting his jovial nature and the ill-conceived reputation he's acquired through his counterparts in the universe, so he's learning to take fighting more seriously here.

As for the next challenge, well... I have in mind who might be participating but I need to find videos of their move sets.

Great set-up, Rakai. Great recap with the Raphaels. Not only was the fight as fierce as one would expect from a battle of Raphaels, but you also have 2012 Raph right in character.

And lol at Mirage Mikey's perplexity with his counterparts' quirks.  

As for the match, I don't think I've ever seen a 'chuck-on-'chuck fight play out, so that dynamic alone makes this interesting for me. Still, this could potentially be the most lopsided of the Turtles mirror matches. The thing with 2012 Mikey is that he arguably took his training the least seriously of the various TMNT Mikeys, and that's what would most likely be the main factor that costs him in this match-up.  The only time 2012 Mikey ever really shined on his own in combat was in more comedic episodes where he was the focus of the story. A more comedic turn may be 2012 Michelangelo's best chance to give Mirage Mikey a good fight. 

BTW, don't know if you're aware of this, but the order in which you've been pitting the Mirage Turtles against their 2012 counterparts is the same order of which the Turtles are both introduced and placed in the pause menu of the original TMNT NES game: 

 Ironic in that the first NES game is still the closest in tone to the Mirage Turtles and is probably still the hardest TMNT game.

When it came to writing up the recap, I really didn't agree with the reflection of the votes and felt like as if despite the Mirage Turtles being more brutal and perhaps skilled than most of their multiversal counterparts, save for perhaps the IDW TMNT as they're pretty high up there in terms of experience and skill, that the 2012 Turtles would at least be able to put something of a decent fight. The idea was for the Turtles to fight personifications of their own flaws, and I figure the 2012 Turtles would be a good way to do that. As far as this particular match up is concerned-- a chuck vs chuck battle, would be... really interesting to see because I haven't really seen any fights where nunchucks were used to deflect another's pair of nunchaku, and I think that might be rather impractical or impossible, maybe both so I figure there's going to be a lot of dodging when maybe writing up the recap. Also, 2012 Michelangelo's nunchucks aren't just nunchucks either but also function as a kusarigama... So there's an element of surprise there.

No, I didn't know that I was following the NES TMNT game as I never really played it. That's really interesting!

Heh, guess I never saw Game of Death through. 

 This vid might be helpful for your recap, but I have a feeling a Mikey vs. Mikey duel may be a little more humorous.
