Saying either of these guys has coached/trained people "without talent" is kind of a stretch, but Mickey has trained much less-proven and less refined talent in Rocky to eventually become a champion. When Boone came along, the school he was hired to already had a HoF coach and won the state title the year before, and he kept the previous coach on the staff and only added to the talent from there. 

In short, this is probably Mickey's challenge to lose.

I would say both could probably make the best of a bad situation but I may hand this one to Mickey. In the first 2 Rocky movies, Rocky was not necessarily without talent but he never had much of a history before being selected by Apollo Creed for a bout. He was an underdog that was written off as such and he went the distance. Most of that was on Rocky himself as having the will to go the distance but I know Rock would attribute a lot to Mickey's coaching who trained several other boxers in the past.
