They put a teenager in the first one, yeah IIRC. If Penny has that book, she'll be fine. But I think like said teenage girl in the first film, she could identify the patterns.

Even though the Cube is my area, I have to admit Penny is very well equipped to deal with it. There's every chance she dies immediately before she figures out what's going on, but if that doesn't happen, then she probably clears
