Twenty-Four hours is more than enough time for the Overlook on this one.  In Doctor Sleep the ghosts are shown to be able to take out a person very quickly if they are motivated.  Then add in the environmental threats like murderous animated topiary, blood spewing elevators and possession. 

I don't think one stump-dumb redneck with a shotgun stands much chance of walking out of there alive a day later.
