Sidekick vs. Terrain

I'm leaning towards Alan Grant.  This challenge just seems like it is strongly in his area of expertise and wheelhouse.

The one thing Skull Island has over what Alan has dealt with are the natives. If he runs into them, he might be in a lot of trouble

Didn't one guy survive for years with the natives? Can't remember the film much and may be confusing it - a war pilot or something

That depends on which Skull Island we're using. In the original and the Peter Jackson remake, the natives kill on sight pretty much, but in Kong: Skull Island, there was someone who survived for a long time on the island. So it really depends on which version it is

Must be the Skull Island movie I was thinking of then.

That's an interesting addition then.

As Fox says, most of what is on the island plays to Grants strength so this could well be the swinging factor or not

I'll actually go against the grain and say Skull Island. Grat will do well here but Skull Island in my opinion is just a level above his expertise. He's be the hero leader who get's killed halfway through the movie and deflates the rest of the survivors.

As I said last time Grant got this challenge, it may be different than Nublar and Sorna but his past experiences will help him in whichever version this is.

Sorry but I must point out that his past experiences in JP might actually be his downfall. Like what if he encounters this beauty:

Mistakes her for a T-Rex and thinks to himself: ‘If I don’t move, she can’t see me.’ And then he won’t have time to run before she swallows him whole!

Also if he follows his theory from the third movie and tries to head to the coast assuming the less deadly creatures don’t live near the coast, he’ll have to deal with the giant crabs:

And the natives who’ll smash his head in with a club. Pretty sure his experiences at Jurassic Park won’t prepare him for either option.

I doubt Alan will try the stand still trick against an unknown dino, it didn't work on Spino afterall.

Counterpoint to the head to the coast theory, he never said that. The dumb tourists did. "The closer you get to water the bigger they get. In the movie they were trying to float off the island. So if he does head toward the coast, he's going to be on guard.

Again we don't know what version of skull island this is, the natives might be hostile, or they might be friendly. Either way Grant has show to be resourceful and tough.

Except it’s not an unknown dino, it’s one that looks, moves, and acts exactly like a T-Rex. In fact the early script for Peter Jackson’s King Kong and Wikizilla.org confirms that the V-Rex is in fact a species of T-Rex that had survived and evolved on Skull Island, so really it is a Jurassic Park T-Rex just with a different name and better vision. Come on Merc really look at the pic I sent you and tell me how Alan would be able tell the difference between it and a JP T-Rex?

Alan: Billy we’ll go back to the plane and salvage what we can, then we make for the coast.

See? Heading for the coast was Alan’s idea, because according to latter dialogue all the bigger dinosaurs prefer the center of the island not the coast. So I don’t know where you got your quote “The closer you get to water the bigger they get.” Because that’s just not true according to the dialogue I remember.

Well personally I think Alan won’t last long on the MonsterVerse Skull Island either. Mostly cause he has no hope of surviving the Skullcrawlers. If he encounters them he’s toast. And no, just because John C. Reilly survived the place does not automatically mean Alan could. Reilly’s character was a military man who had survival training and guerrilla training, things that Alan as a civilian would not have.

For one the V-Rex is twice the size of a T-Rex. That definitely would be a clue that perhaps this is a new dino. Or if it is an evolved version of a T-Rex then it may have evolved past the vision movement. (Which isn't accurate to real paleontology to begin with)

I did not make the line up: As they make for the coast, Eric says to Alan Grant: “The closer you get to the water, the bigger things get

So since this is post JP 3 a new nugget of knowledge to help him survive.

There were a whole bunch of people living on Skull island in Monster Verse. And yes Grant can survive it. John C Reily may have been a military man, but so were most the grunts that ended up on Skull Island, didn't help them. Grant however knows animals, jungles, and has survived two dino islands. That's a damn good base.

The Jurassic Park T-Rex is 37 to 43 feet in length, Skull Island’s V-Rex is 40-50 feet in length. The Vastatosaurus Rex is only slightly bigger, not enough for Dr. Grant to be able to tell from a distance or through dense foliage. So there’s still a high chance he’ll try the ole “they can’t see us if we don’t move” tactic and get gobbled up.

The only people who have survived on the island were either part of a US army unit or were living with a native tribe who were under the protection of Kong. Dr. Grant will be starting this alone, with no military escort or Kong’s protection. Also he won’t know anything about the Skull Island animals and nothing he’s experienced on the JP islands will help him against the Skullcrawlers.

So he survived it the first time but this time he doesn't? Makes no sense.
