Kyo was a rather aggressive fighter, capable of utilizing the Flames of the Kusanagi family to great effect. It was one of the many reasons why he was such a revered contender in many of the King of Fighters tournament which he had attended. And he would show this upstart why he was a figure to be respected and revered. Kyo Kusanagi attuned himself to the latent energy within himself and felt that current moving through him in the form of a powerful rush, and directed it to move through his arms and into his hands. Quickly, he would rush right in towards the red masked Turtle who had managed to defeat his father—and Kyo quickly then swung his left arm across to the right, taking aim for the Turtle’s plastron, and followed up by moving his right fist upward in an attempt to uppercut the Turtle directly in the chin before he would finish by thrusting his left elbow down—working the combination from the 114 Shiki – Aragami into 128 Shiki – Konokizu and finalizing with the 127 Shiki – Yanosabi. Flames erupted out from Kyo’s fist, intending to meet the Turtle head on but Leonardo would hop back away from the first strike, then encircle around Kyo to his left to avoid the flaming uppercut, and then evade the flaming elbow by dashing around to move behind Kyo. Quickly, Leonardo then had swung Haohmaru’s blade, gripped in his right hand over to the left, and he would swing the ninjaken in his left over to the left—intending on striking at Kyo’s chest with the two blades. Widening his eyes, Kyo would skip back and quickly avoid meeting the sharpened tips of the two blades, and he watched as Leonardo dashed forward only to bring both arms down, slashing the two swords for the top of his head but Kyo shifted in with a step as he raised his left forearm horizontally blocking the wrist of the Turtle, preventing his strikes from ever coming down.

Kyo quickly moved to wrap both his hands around the wrist of the mutant Red Ear Slider, and he would bring his arms down to throw the Turtle’s body weight forward and down, intending to flip Leonardo onto the ground. Leonardo found himself slamming down onto his carapace, grunting on impact only to then watch as Kyo immediately dropped down and protruded his right elbow down. Rather than allowing this, Leonardo would throw his weight to the left and managed to evade the incoming elbow before he would plant his hands onto the ground and turn, only to bring his right leg across and aimed to slam his right foot onto Kyo’s head. The successor of the Kusanagi House leaned away from the Turtle’s foot, but Leonardo would pounce forward and he leaned his right shoulder out only to ram it directly into Kyo’s chest, causing the young fighter to buckle back.

The red masked ninja then would swing his arms across, slashing both Fugudoku and the ninjaken in for Kyo’s chest region and followed up bringing both blades around as he brought them down in a circular manner into a low horizontal slash to the right as he aimed for Kyo’s legs and then brought the blade down diagonally to the left with swift speed and practiced precision. Kyo Kusanagi stepped back from the first slash, but then he pushed himself with his feet, leaping over the downward strike and he gasped when the downward strike came for his neck. However, Leonardo would pull back only to then rush forward and he’d thrust his right leg up, slamming his knee directly up into Kyo’s chin before he followed up by bringing both his hands down, impacting the handles of both swords down onto top of the young man’s head.

Pain moved through Kyo’s head as he was forced to drop face and chest first onto the ground. That was something which he didn’t expect for his opponent to do. He had to admit, that was quite creative thinking with the fake out leading into the knee smash to his chin which lead him to his position.

Quickly pushing himself to his feet, Kyo then had clenched his hands firmly into fists and he aggressively released a series of punches as he thrust his arms forward, aiming to strike at Leonardo’s face. The mutant Terrapin crossed his arms out in front of himself, using his forearms to take the blows directly. Kyo then swung his left leg across as he now unleashed a powerful roundhouse only to firmly strike Leonardo’s mid-section. Leonardo grunted from the impact but to Kyo’s surprise, that shell was harder than he had expected it to be. What he thought was soft padding of a costume was… something much sturdier. It was dense, and felt like a form of natural body armor. Regardless, Kyo was on the offensive and he wouldn’t let up. He moved his hands, placing them onto Leonardo’s shoulders and shoved him forward with his strength, forcing the Turtle to his carapace against one of the Buddha statues which stood at the corner of the pond. Kyo then would lean forward with his weight and he snapped his right leg out in a front kick and impacted his foot onto the Turtle’s plastron protected chest, causing Leonardo to grunt again  before he then swung his right and left arm across, performing two hook punches across the mutant Turtle’s face. Kyo reared his right arm back and summoned more of his strength only to then thrust it forward for Leonardo’s head. But to his surprise and shock, the mutant Red Ear Slider would pull his head into his shell and Kyo would instead hit the Buddha stature instead, causing it to crack and send chunks of granite flying about.

Leonardo slightly raised his head from his shell, seeing an opportunity present itself.

The red masked ninja then would turn with his weight and he immediately thrust his right arm forward, protruding the handle of Haohmaru’s blade out and firmly impacted Kyo in his solar plexus. The young fighter gasped and lurched forward. Leonardo then turned with his hips once more and he swung his left arm forward and batted his fist holding the ninjaken directly into between Kyo’s eyes— now rendering the successor of the Kusanagi house dazed. Turning into a spin to move around Kyo, the mutant Red Ear Slider then snapped his right leg out in a spinning back thrust kick, firmly impacting Kyo’s lower back and caused him to slam directly into the Buddha statue. Kyo felt pain moving into his head and his chest when the hard surface moved into him. But Leonardo wasn’t done, as he then charged forward and moved his right shoulder out once more, ramming directly into Kyo.

More pain rushed into Kyo’s head and his chest. He shut his eyes in agonizing pain as he then dropped onto his right side, and now was working to fight the pain which he had been inflicted with. Needing to get some distance between himself and Leonardo, Kyo attuned himself to the energy within and channeled it to move through his right arm and into his hand. Quickly, he stood and then flicked his right hand down only to release a burst of yellow flame which now rushed along the ground and move in towards Leonardo as Kyo performed the 108 Shiki Yamibarai technique. Leonardo would immediately hop back and side-step over to the right, evading the incoming flame as it would instead hit nothing but the granite stairs behind him, causing it to briefly erupt and burst into a roaring fire. Leonardo had been expecting a similar power to Saisyu Kusanagi from Kyo, and as such— he didn’t dare break his focus from his opponent. The red masked Turtle pounced forward and took to the air, only to then raise his arms and he swung the two blades downward, intending on striking onto Kyo.

Kyo turned and rolled to his left, evading the Turtle as Leonardo landed feet first onto the ground, striking nothing but air and concrete. Raising to his feet, Kyo then thrust his right arm out as he took aim for Leonardo’s face and then followed up by turning to a spin and moving his left arm across, intending to strike at the ninja with a spinning back fist. Leonardo quickly hunched and evaded the two punches but then watched as Kyo then had leaned forward and snapped his right leg out and turned with a side-kick. The Turtle took the kick directly and was forced to step back. Kyo turned in a spin and pushed himself in towards his opponent, taking to the air. Using the momentum of his motion, he would swing his right leg across in an aerial spinning wheel kick, then again turn to perform the same kick, and finalize the combination by throwing his body weight forward and down only to bring his legs down for the Turtle. Leonardo felt the first kick hitting him directly in the side of his face, and he found himself launched into the air, only to be impacted again before he would be slammed onto his plastron, now hitting the ground below as Kyo managed to successfully perform his 101-Shiki Oboroguruma technique.

If there was one thing which Leonardo had to give Kyo, it was that he was flashier than Saisyu and had perhaps better footwork and more variety in his technique. The ninja shook his head from side to side, working to resist the disorientation which he seemed to be experiencing.

Kyo again pounced forward, taking to the air only to turn with his weight as he positioned himself onto his side and he would position his legs, bringing his right down in what appeared to be a somersaulting drop kick as he now performed the R.E.D. Kick. Leonardo stared up and the ninja pushed himself to his right, evading the downward attack and set himself onto his feet to once more meet his opponent. Kyo landed onto his feet, and then aggressively moved in hot pursuit of the Turtle, now pouncing forward and he raised his left leg up in an aerial rising front kick, and then turned to then snap his right leg up in a similar kick— performing the 75-Shiki Kai.

Leonardo was forced to step back away from the incoming kicks. In retaliation, he would grip Fugudoku in his right hand and he swung the blade across back to the right, taking aim for Kyo’s chest and followed up by moving the blade over to the left for the same region. Kyo stopped in his pursuit and stepped back from the sharpened tip of the katana, and Leonardo then moved his arms down and slashed the katana and ninjaken down for the top of Kyo’s head but the successor to the Kusanagi house side-stepped to his opponent’s left and dodged the incoming swords.

Leonardo turned to face his opponent and he swung his left leg diagonally up in a spinning roundhouse kick, but Kyo hunched down from the incoming kick and responded by stepping forward and pumped his right and left out. Leonardo crossed both his arms, taking the two punches in his forearms— effectively blocking the strikes. The Turtle responded by moving his left leg down and across, then snapping it across three quick times as he now performed a total of four quick roundhouse kicks. Kyo felt a blow to his right knee and he buckled, only to receive two quick strikes to his mid-section and then a powerful impact moved across his head. The mutant Red Ear Slider quickly leapt and he threw his weight across only to perform a jumping inward crescent kick across Kyo’s head as he moved his left leg across, firmly striking the young man across his face.

Kyo dropped onto the ground and firmly planted his hands to prevent himself from hitting the concrete. He turned his gaze to his opponent, giving the Turtle a fiery glare.

“Alright, I have to hand it to you. I can see why my old man had a hard time with you.” Kyo spoke.

“I guess you’re not too bad yourself.” Leonardo responded.

Kyo shifted with a step and then rushed in towards the red masked Turtle as he thrust his right arm forward, but Leonardo hunched and managed to evade the incoming punch, now weaving to his own left and then swung Fugudoku vertically down as he took aim the Kyo’s bicep. The heir of the Kusanagi house felt a stinging pain moving into his arm and then looked to see an incision on the sleeve of his jacket, and a leak of crimson seeped from his flesh and his jacket. Kyo narrowed his eyes as he stared to his opponent.

Leonardo then would snap and lean forward, now kicking his left leg out for a front kick as he took aim for Kyo’s chest. Channeling the energy within himself, the young fighter directed the power to flow through his entire body and moved it into his arms and hands. When the Turtle attacked, Kyo turned to a spin and he raised his right arm up, blocking the incoming kick but then leaned inward and he swung his left arm out with his hand bursting into flame and successfully managed to strike Leonardo directly into his plastron. Kyo kept the flame burning as he moved his left arm diagonally up in a backhand, striking Leonardo firmly across his head before he then pushed himself up into the air, and threw his weight to spin while airborne and extended out his arms. The flame would spin upward, contacting Leonardo directly— finishing the combination with a 100 Shiki Oniyaki.

The Turtle felt an intense heat hitting him and it was just as hot as the flames which Saisyu had produced, and the ninja found himself being pulled down by gravity and he would slam down onto the hard concrete. Pain moved through Leonardo’s skin and he winced his eyes in pain but now adrenaline would course through his veins. The stinging would linger before it would be dulled and he raised his head, now shooting a glare to his opponent.

“How’s… Leo doing?” Raphael asked while Donatello was still treating his burns.

The intellectual Turtle turned his head and looked to see the progress of his brother, and he saw that he seemed to be having something of a challenge with the Kusanagi heir. But he saw the look on Leonardo’s face, and Donatello blinked at this only to cock his head back as he returned his attention to Raphael, resuming in applying cooling ointment onto his brother’s skin and applying some bandages.

“He’s having a challenge. But I’m sure he’ll make it.” Donatello said in a reassuring manner.

“Guys, I think we’re pretty close here!” Michelangelo excitedly spoke.

Leonardo planted his knuckles onto the concrete and worked to push back up onto his feet. When he had done so, the red masked ninja oved his left arm up and slipped the ninjaken in his grasp over his right shoulder and back into the sheathe which the weapon belonged. He slowly wrapped both hands around the handle of Haohmaru’s katana, and now focused on nothing but this very moment. If he was going to win this battle, he would have to rely on his own experience with Saisyu Kusanagi as well as his own experiences from previous opponents in this tournament. He took in several deep breathes, focusing and calming himself despite the rush of adrenaline. Kyo meanwhile focused on the energy within himself again but focused on building it up to a point where he now ignited in flames. Miraculously, he wasn’t even burning himself from the flames which he was producing. This was enough to make Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo widen their eyes. Chizuru merely watched on as she pursed her lips, arms crossed and raised her left brow in an interested manner. Truly, Kyo was worthy of being the next master of the Kusanagi house and could be a great master— if he only took the responsibility more seriously. Now feeling the flames reaching their hottest and the energy within at his peak, Kyo Kusanagi grinned.

“Thanks for the challenge and you’re as good as everyone says… But it’s time to end this!”

Leonardo immediately stepped forward and began running as fast as he could to close the gap of space between himself and his opponent. As he drew near, Leonardo positioned Fugudoku down and to the side. Kyo then moved his right arm back across and unleashed a powerful burst of flame which moved right in towards the Turtle—unleashing the Ura 108 Shiki Orochinagi technique.

Instead, Leonardo leaned forward and down, curling himself as he rolled underneath the incoming wave of fire. He could feel the heat brushing up onto him and he moved back up onto his feet. Realizing that he had missed his opponent, and expended a fair deal of energy— Kyo turned to meet Leonardo, and he stepped forward with a straight punch for the Turtle’s face. However, Leonardo would swing Fugudoku horizontally to the left as he took aim for Kyo’s left and the blade’s sharpened tip would graze across the young man. Kyo gasped and grunted in pain as his side had been cut, and Leonardo turned in a spin to then meet his opponent’s back. The mutant Red Ear Slider then moved Fugudoku across to the right, taking aim for Kyo’s neck. And turning to meet Leonardo, Kyo widened his eyes as he was unprepared for what could be the last thing which he would ever see.

The blade made contact with Kyo’s neck but stopped as Leonardo pulled back at the last second.

Kyo could only close his eyes and nod.

“Alright, I know when I’ve been beat. You got me.”

Chizuru blinked at this outcome, and she had to admit that these Turtles had some level of skill indeed. Whoever had trained them, made sure that their training was ingrained into them and that they trained to be the best that they could ever be. She had looked down to the battered Iori Yagami and then stared over to Raphael. That one match showed that the Turtles were a tenacious bunch and she returned her gaze to Leonardo and Kyo. That match was a showing that they had the skills to progress on with the tournament.

“Kagura-san, should I go up next? It’s just down to the two of us.” Aska inquired.

“No, I think it’s time that I evaluate the opposition myself. So far, two of them have shown to be able to fight against those infused with Orochi’s power. If we can’t progress, then perhaps they can be of assistance.” Chizuru responded.

Leonardo stepped back to where his brothers currently were and briefly looked over to Donatello and Raphael. The red masked hot-headed sibling looked up to his elder brother and Donatello glanced to Leonardo.

“So how’s the patient?” Leo blankly asked.

“He’ll live. Question is, how are you holding?” Donatello raised his right brow in a quizzical manner.

“I’ll be fine, Donatello but it’s looking like that we’re gonna be up to bat soon. Two of them are down, and only two are left. It’s just the Shrine Maiden and the Kunoichi over there.”

Donatello chuckled, shaking his head. “So it’s down to me and Mikey, huh?”

“Hey, c’mon… You know this is kinda fun!” Michelangelo responded.

Chizuru stepped forth, now looking to the four Turtles with a soft smile on her face as she raised her eyes to meet the opposition. She saw that each of them had their strengths, all of then complimenting one another which allowed them to function quite well as a team. Those were quite admirable traits to have. But they were also quite capable of fighting individually on their own if they were put in such a situation.

“Are we ready for the next match?”

The four siblings looked to one another. Raphael was in need of recovery from his fight with Iori, but if he needed to fight—he was more than willing to fight through the pain if he needed. Leonardo just finished with his last match and perhaps would need a few minutes to regain his composure. Michelangelo and Donatello looked to one another. The intellectual Turtle moved his right hand up and he took hold of his staff in hand, pulling it from the strap which was slung over his shoulder, and spun the weapon lightly as he now stepped over to the Shrine Maiden now.

“Guess it’s my turn to bat!”

“I must admire your courage. Let’s see how far that courage can take you.” Chizuru nodded.

With a wave of her arm, Chizuru’s red and white attire would be completely replaced with an entirely different outfit. She wore a modified variant of her Shrine Maiden top, but now wore a pair of black pants and now had a pair of buckled heel shoes. Donatello blinked at this as he cocked his head back, unsure of how she was able to perform that. The only thing which he could guess was that this was some sort of sleight of hand technique or optical illusion. But something that elaborate? And seeing the power many of the opponents he and his brothers fought? Donatello realized that this perhaps might be something so much more. He had fought many opponents, some of them quite very powerful and skilled… Finding the confidence inside, Donatello steeled himself.

“Are you ready?”

“Ready.”

Donatello spun his steel electro-bo staff within his hands and then snapped into fighting stance as Chizuru then had waved her arms and seemingly produced another  pair which then faded to nothing as she then raised her left hand up and poised it.

The third match between the Turtles and the Three Treasure would kick off with a slow but intense start.

Alright, so the next match in the Mirage Turtles storyline has been posted and I know I posted it rather late tonight at around 10:30 PM but there's a reason for that. I've noticed that audience participation has been at a low, and I would've thought that with the holidays being over-- participation would be back to normal but I suppose life gets in the way and I figured if I post at a later time, then it would perhaps give readers some time to actually read the match and perhaps share their thoughts and perhaps put in a vote. I however, don't expect this to become a permanent thing. Anyway...

Writing out the recap between Leonardo and Kyo Kusanagi was relatively easy in that I had two videos showcasing Kyo's moveset to work with and I also wanted to convey a sense of growing respect between Leonardo and Kyo, something to serve as a stark contrast between Raphael and Iori which was a much more visceral fight. This one was meant to show skill and while there is only very small bloodshed, that bloodshed from a grazing cut would go as far as it will as this isn't a fight to the death. None the less, writing out the recap was easy as I had some good amount of time, and the votes-- despite being as low as they were, still conveyed the closeness between the two combatants as far as the outcome was concerned, so I tried to emulate that.

Now, we have Donatello going up against whom I would consider to be the team leader of the Three Treasures, Chizuru Kagura. We know that Iori and Kyo would never work together under normal circumstances, and would often require the voice of reason to do so-- as well as a common enemy, and that voice of reason being Chizuru. I feel like out of those three particular characters, she's the most level headed of the three. However, Donatello is also quite level headed and also very analytical. I felt like as if this might be an interesting match and when the recap is written up, Chizuru's moveset is... likely going to be very interesting, if not difficult to write out. Still, I think that this would be interesting to see how Donatello could cope with a member of the Three Treasures.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

Leaning towards Donnie

Thanks for commenting.

I like Chizuru. She's not overly powerful but her mystic style might be enough to throw Donnie off.

I figure her illusion abilities would give Donatello some trouble but I also think if he can outsmart her, he might be able to throw in for a loop in his own way.

Hmmm ... great set-up as usual, Rakai. It looks like Leo and Kyo provided a very good challenge for one another between their collective fighting abilities. I guess Leo's skill with the blade just outmatched Kyo's flame attacks.

BTW, I thought the name Chizuru look familiar, so I checked back and was reminded that she was the one that summoned the clones of the 2012 Turtles for the Mirage Turtles to fight as some kind of test of worthiness earlier in this arc. I wonder if this is gearing up to having the Turtles assisting her in some kind of way ...

Anyways, as for the match, Donnie might just have a tough fight on his hands. I seriously doubt that Chizuru would summon the 2012 clones again, but her normal cloning and other abilities are gonna be tough enough for Donnie to handle. Donatello, however, might have a good chance of countering them and disorienting her with his own abilities, smarts, and gadgets.

Thanks for commenting DSkillz! Yes, Chizuru is the character who summoned the 2012 Turtles to fight the Mirage as a test, and there is indeed a set up to get them to assist her for a greater good here happening.

As for the recap between Leonardo and Kyo, I did want to convey that as a contest of skill more than brutality as I did with Raphael and Iori. So I think I did that fine enough.

Also, thanks for the insight. I truly appreciate it.

...Well, that's just fucking lame.

Why is audience participation at an all time low?

Sorry I missed getting to this in time. Would have gone with Chizuru because her illusion casting I think would give her the edge to come out on top.

Eh, it's fine!

I mean... writing this out should be really challenging. So far, Donatello hasn't experienced any straight up losses yet-- neither has Raphael.
