The Grand Hunt

Round TWO

Capture or Kill the Target: (Finn)

Hunter’s Point (Commissioner’s Base of Operations)

One by one, the potentials were transported to their challenges, clearing the meeting room save for the Commissioner. He pulled at the edges of his cuffs, smoothing his suit before flicking the holo-projector off and opening the access door behind him. Two sides of the wall swish aside, giving the Commissioner the access to a brightly lit corridor. His pale figure reflected off the walls, following him down the hall to the single room. A quick retina scan let him through.

“The game is afoot, sir,” The Commissioner announced his presence into the room, but he knew it wasn’t needed. His boss already knew everything he needed to know. He swiveled his golden chair away from the wall of monitors to greet the Commissioner.

Commission

“Excellent work,” said Midas. “You’ve certainly played your part well. But do you think they are worthy of this game of ours?”

The Commissioner met his question with a grin, smoothing thin paper lips over porcelain teeth. “I believe so. But don’t take my word for it.” He pointed to the monitors behind Midas where many of the challenges were already wrapping up. Midas took the cue and reviewed the game in silence until seven of the nine competitors finished strong.

“A loss of two,” The Commissioner pointed out the obvious. “Seems as setting up this initial challenge was indeed a good way to weed out the weak.”

“And the stupid,” Midas turned away from the monitor of Kintaro being ripped apart by lizards, rolling his eyes and flicking through the hunters files.

“Let’s not let them rest too long. Give them the minimal information they need and send them their first targets.”

“No more challenges?” The Commissioner asked.

“Seven is already a small number of hunters, Com. If we are to achieve our goals, then I need them taking out as many targets as they can.”

“Then I shall match them quickly. Unless you’ve already done so,” The Commissioner’s grin finally faded, morphing into a straight face that seemed doll-like. Midas didn’t look up from his desk.

“No, I’ll leave this round to your judgment. I’ll get to work on what comes after,” said Midas, handing the Commissioner back the files before he sent him on his way.

Canto Bight

It wasn’t long before Samus cleared the castle that she got her first real bounty. Somehow, the Commissioner of this game had hacked her suit, because the display in her visor flashed a message:

CONGRATULATIONS ON PASSING THE FIRST ROUND. NOW FOR YOUR FIRST TARGET. BRING THEM IN DEAD OR ALIVE!

Below that gave her the necessary details of the target. Some man called Finn. He was some kind of troublemaker. A rebel, responsible for the death of millions. Samus wouldn’t say he looked like a killer, but she’d been surprised by appearances before. Plus, what choice did she have? The game was officially underway.

Samus accepted the target and was magicked to where she supposed the target was. She found herself out of place, surrounded by buildings of brick and metal and aliens she’d never seen before. There were floating transports on the street and sky. It wasn’t all that unfamiliar, but she certainly had never been in this part of the galaxy.

It didn’t take her long to notice she stood out in her suit, so after some atmosphere scans, Samus determined it was safe enough to switch into her zero suit. She got lost into the crowd and wandered in and around the buildings until patrons stopped paying attention to her, which didn’t take long.

Wherever he target was, he sure did pick a good spot to get lost in–

Just then she heard some commotion going on down the street. She couldn’t see it directly from where she was standing, so she rounded the corner to find her target standing over two unconscious guards. He was holding a gun, fresh steam from its very recent use.

The two met eyes before Samus sprung into action, hoping to catch her target off-guard.

Classic Nintendo vs Star Wars that we've seen before on this site, just woven into a bit of an ongoing story.

These first few targets may seem easy but we are getting Finn's first official match here. He's a decent combatant and has good instincts. His connection to the force has given him an edge but he's untrained. Well all that be enough to stop Samus?

Probably not

Samus. 🥰

Anyway, I give the match a 5.0.

Well... at least Finn as home field advantage and might be able to sense danger before it happens...
