Raphael would waste no time as he would kick the battle off with an explosive start. The red masked hot-headed ninja then would spin his sai in his grasp and he would then turn with his hips and he’d pump his arms forward and out, taking aim for the masked Luchador’s mid-section as fast as he could as he intended to blast the man with the blunt handles of his twin sai. El Fuerte would weave from side to side, working to evade the incoming strikes but Raphael would turn in a spin and he took aim for the Mexican wrestler’s mid-section only to snap his left leg forward and out in a spinning back thrust kick, effectively slamming his heel into El Fuerte’s mid-section. The Luchador widened his eyes as he then lurched and clutched as his mid-section with his hands, but Raphael then would again pump his arms outward, slamming the blunt handles of his twin sai for his opponent’s chest, before he turned with his weight and then he’d swing his right arm up in an uppercut—directly hitting the underneath of El Fuerte’s chin with the sai handle in his right hand, causing the Luchador to buckle back and drop onto his backside.

“YEEEAAAAH! KICK-ASS, RAPH!” Michelangelo yelled out, cupping his hands around his mouth.

The red masked ninja would be relentless in his assault as he then would turn in a spin and he’d swing his right leg diagonally upward for El Fuerte’s mid-section, landing a solid roundhouse as he had intended. A powerful smacking sound echoed through the deck of the cruise ship and El Fuerte winced his eyes in pain as he felt the impact reverberate through his entire mid-section now. Raphael then rushed as El Fuerte stumbled from the blow and he immediately tensed up his leg muscles and pushed himself to pounce at his opponent. Upon tackling El Fuerte, Raphael would scramble to straddle onto him and took aim for the Mexican Luchador’s face only to begin pounding away at his face four quick times with his fists.

Having had enough, El Fuerte would then move his hands and place them onto Raphael’s arms and he would turn with his weight and focused his strength to push the red masked Turtle off from him, despite the throbbing headache which his head seemed to be experiencing. Quickly, the Luchador would rush to his feet and with tremendous speed, he would rush right in for the mutant Turtle only to then swung his right hand back across in a back fist for Raphael’s face. The Turtle widened his eyes and he leaned back away from the incoming fist but then watched as El Fuerte then leaned forward with his weight and he snapped his right leg out in a front kick for Raphael’s mid-section. The Turtle grunted as the foot hit his plastron but otherwise, he didn’t seem to be too phased by that. El Fuerte moved in and he would swing his left hand back across in a reverse slap, striking his palm firmly onto Raphael’s plastron but the Turtle just simply would no-sell the strike and scoff. Quickly realizing that quick attacks wouldn’t do, El Fuerte then pushed himself up with his feet only to take to the air and he’d kick both legs out in a dropkick which was aimed for Raphael’s chest but the Turtle raised both arms, blocking the attack hastily.

El Fuerte moved his arms out, now taking a hold of Raphael by the arms as he tried to pull him in for a grapple attack but the red masked Turtle proved to be stronger as he then threw his arms up and parted them— forcing to create an opponent in his opponent’s defenses. Raphael would lean forward and he’d pump his right leg upward with his knee out, firmly impacting it into El Fuerte’s mid-section. The Luchador gasped, the air having been knocked out from him as he once more lurched forward. Raphael then would turn in a spin to meet his opponent’s back. Swiftly, Raphael slipped his twin sai into his utility belt, leaving his hands free as he wrapped his arms around El Fuerte’s mid-section, and the Turtle then would lift with his legs and lean back only to suplex El Fuerte onto the deck floor.

Raphael quickly flipped onto his feet and now stared to the Luchador, watching as El Fuerte writhed in pain. The red masked ninja then took a moment to allow El Fuerte to recover and get back up. The Luchador firmly planted his hands onto the deck floor and slowly rose up to his feet and now gave a hard stare to Raphael.

“We doin’ this or… what?” Raphael asked as he drew his sai out once more, spinning and now holding them in reverse.

Without any hesitation, El Fuerte quickly ran as fast as he could in towards Raphael—using the burst of speed to his advantage as he zeroed right in on the Turtle. Raphael side-stepped to his right, evading the silver masked Wrestler but then watched as El Fuerte leapt onto the rails of the upper deck and rebounded off from them. Soaring high and far, El Fuerte moved in towards Raphael and he widened his arms open and aimed to splash his body onto Raphael, wanting to land the Tostada Press onto the red masked hot-head.

“TOSTADA!!”

El Fuerte managed to splash down onto Raphael, and the red masked hot-head suddenly felt himself falling back from feeling the weight of the Mexican Wrestler dropping down onto him but he would throw his weight to the right and managed to roll out from underneath El Fuerte. El Fuerte managed to rise to his feet quicker, and he already would be running towards the rails on the other end of deck. And again, he leapt onto it and rebounded only to now take off high into the air once more. As Raphael rose to his feet, El Fuerte managed to splash on Raphael once more, but wrapped his arms around his neck, throw his weight to the left and spun around the Turtle, and then plant his hands onto his shoulder to hand-stand on him, and before rolling forward and pile driving the Turtle onto the deck floor as he managed to land another acrobatic technique.

“FAJITA BUSTER!”

The Turtle then would feel himself slamming down onto the deck, and momentary discomfort washed over his body as the Luchador scrambled off from him. Fighting through the discomfort, Raphael then would kick both his legs outward, slamming his feet directly into the chest of his opponent and then flipped onto his own feet.

“ALRIGHT, REY MYSTERIO! YOU’RE DONE!” Raphael shouted.

“Ay! Mi nombre es no Rey Mysterio! Mi nombre es El Fuerte!” El Fuerte responded.

Raphael roared out as he rushed right in at El Fuerte and he swung his right arm across, the handle of his twin sai protruding from between his fingers as he aimed to use the weapon as a means of enhancing the force of his blows. El Fuerte hunched and managed the evade the incoming strike, but Raphael thrust his left arm forward and out, now firmly striking the wrestler firmly in his chest and caused El Fuerte to grunt and buckle back from the blow. Regaining his composure, El Fuerte then ran as fast as he could at the Turtle once more only to then drop back and baseball slide his way to catch Raphael by his feet as he aimed to perform the Calamari Slide.

However, Raphael would pounce forward and he curled his upper body up and landed onto his back and rolled safely away from his opponent, successfully managing to evade the attack. He shifted to his feet, quickly rising and now ran right in towards El Fuerte only to now lean his right shoulder forward, effectively ramming it into the Luchador who quickly moved his arms up, attempting to block the Turtle’s forceful impact but stumbled back after his defense had been crushed. Raphael then immediately would now swing his right leg across, performing two roundhouse kicks as the first would land solidly onto the Luchador’s side and again hard across El Fuerte’s head. Raphael leaned forward and he swung his right arm across, his elbow bent out as he used it to strike it hard against El Fuerte’s head, and again the Luchador stumbled from the blow.

El Fuerte turned and quickly dashed back but then stopped as he tensed up his leg muscles and pushed himself up to leap as he threw his weight up and back, now reverse somersaulting through the air only to once more plant his hands down onto Raphael’s shoulders, before swinging his weight forward and straddling onto his shoulders. He threw his weight to the right, and spun around swiftly— building up enough momentum to somehow levitate Raphael off from the ground a few good feet as he then released his hold on the Turtle, dropping him onto the ground as he managed to execute and land his Propeller Tortilla technique.

“Oh, damn! How in the hell did he manage to do that, Leo?” Michelangelo asked, wincing as he watched as Raphael suddenly turn victim to that technique.

“No idea, but I’m not too worried about Raphael.” Leonardo responded.

Raphael fought through the initial discomfort which his body seemed to be experiencing, but he mentally reminded himself that he had endured much worse than what any Wrestler could inflict upon him. He slowly turned and planted his hands onto the ground and then scrambled to rise once more. The red masked hot-head then rushed towards the Luchador and he swung his right leg up only to bring it down in an axe kick as he intended to slam it down onto the top of his opponent’s head. El Fuerte then moved his eyes and he rose his arms up to block the incoming kick, and successfully managed to do so but Raphael would rear his leg back and once more snapped it out as he leaned in with his weight, landing a solid side kick directly into El Fuerte’s mid-section.

“AYE! CARAJO!”

Raphael then spun his sai firmly within his hands and he gripped the weapons, holding them in reverse before he then turned with his hips and he pumped his arms outward, slamming the ends of his sai handles directly into the Mexican Luchador’s chest, and the red masked ninja turned in a spin to his left and he moved his left arm back across, now slamming the back of his fist hard across El Fuerte’s head. The red masked ninja then reached out with his arms and planted his hands behind the masked wrestler’s head only to then thrust his head forward and he slammed his head down onto El Fuerte’s forehead, causing him to move back as he raised his hands, clutching at the sides of his head from the pain moving through him now.

Raphael immediately then leaned forward and he snapped his left leg outward in a snapping front kick and he firmly struck his foot down onto El Fuerte’s chest, pushing him back even further. Following this, Raphael then would step forward as quickly as he could only to then once more lean his right shoulder out and rammed it directly into El Fuerte’s body, causing him to lose his footing and drop onto his back.

“Ah, no bueno!  No mucho bueno!” El Fuerte hissed from the discomfort which he was currently experiencing.

Raphael then once more tensed the muscles within his legs and he pushed himself forward, now taking to the air a good eight feet and six feet across. El Fuerte, seeing this, placed his hands and feet to the ground only to push himself to the air and he moved his legs out, only to grab hold of the Turtle by his mid-section and he set himself horizontally while in mid-air, now throwing his weight to the right and he spun while gravity would pull the two down— now slamming the Turtle onto the deck floor as he managed to catch him in the Guacamole Leg Throw.

“GUACAMOLE!”

Raphael was slammed down flat onto his shell, and the red masked Turtle then shut his eyes in displeasure of having been caught and floored onto the deck. He widened his eyes open, now watching as El Fuerte would flip back onto his feet and this was enough to get the red masked Turtle’s blood heated. Raphael grit his teeth and firmly clenched his hands around his sai handles, and the hot-headed Terrapin then pulled his lower half back only to then throw his weight forward and flipped back onto his feet.

“THAT’S IT, WE’RE DONE HERE!” Raphael shouted.

He spun his sai firmly within his hands and Raphael gripped the handles, the pointed ends of the pronged weapons now facing forward as he seemed intent on using them in a lethal manner.

Raphael swiftly took a step and he closed the space between himself and the Luchador. He turned with his hips as he took aim for El Fuerte’s chest and mid-section, thrusting his sai forward twice. El Fuerte would then turn to his left and then his right, managing to barely evade the Turtle’s onslaught. He responded by swinging his right arm across, intending on striking the Turtle across his face but the red masked ninja then leapt forward, only to spin with his weight as she snapped his legs out—performing a jumping side-kick leading to a jumping spinning back thrust kick into El Fuerte’s chest. The Luchador grunted and was forced to stumble. Raphael spun his twin sai within his grasps and then tucked it into the palms of his hands, and he would swing his arms across over from right to left, hooking his sai as he took aim for his opponent’s stomach region but El Fuerte was forced to jump back away from the incoming pronged blades. El Fuerte responded by leaning forward and snapping his right leg out in a high side kick, but Raphael leaned back, evading the kick rather swiftly as he planted his hands onto the deck floor and vaulted both his legs upward, firmly impacting his feet into the underneath of El Fuerte’s chin.

The Luchador was sent flying upwards, and gravity pulled him down like a ton of bricks. He hit the deck floor flat onto his back, and worked to fight through the pain, fighting to regain his senses. El Fuerte placed his hands down, and he worked to rise to his feet despite the pain.

Raphael, sensing that his opponent had burned the remainder of his strength now flexed every muscles within his entire body as he now spun his twin sai in his grasp and gripped the handles, holding his weapons in reverse. He would tuck his weapons between the palms of his hands, and now unleashed a furious yell from within. Quickly, he turned with his hips and he swung his horizontally as he took aim for El Fuerte’s head, firmly impacting the handles of his sai into El Fuerte. He leaned forward and pumped his arms forward and out, firmly striking his sai directly into chest of his opponent, causing El Fuerte to grunt and stumble back. Again, Raphael delivered four more strikes with his sai handles and he watched as the Luchador now neared the edge of the pool, barely able to stand.

“RRRGHHHHAAAAAAAAAGH!!” Raphael roared.

He immediately leaned forward with his weight and then thrust both his arms forward and out, slamming the blunt ends of the sai handles firmly into El Fuerte’s chest and stomach region. The Mexican wrestler then felt a mighty impact slamming into him as the air had been knocked out from him and he would be sent flying through the air and over the edge of the pool, and gravity would do the rest as he now splashed into the water.

The mutant Red Ear Slider now looked to the fallen and floating form of his opponent, and took in a deep breath of air through his nostrils and exhaled calmly to cool himself down from the battle. He watched to see if El Fuerte would swim to the edge and rise— but he didn’t. The match was decided.

Satisfied with his victory, Raphael moved his sai down to his utility belt—placing the sai back into the straps which they belonged wihin and he extended his right arm out— now taking a hold of the Luchador by his left hand and pulled him to the edge of the pool and lifted him out, only to then now turn him onto his back. Raphael stepped over towards where the rest of his brothers were. And as he neared them, he looked over to Michelangelo and then raised his right hand up and in turn, Michelangelo then had raised his left hand up and the two brothers gave each other a high five— or rather in their case, a high three.

“Man, you kicked some serious ass out there!” Michelangelo grinned.

“You expected anything less, bro?” Raphael responded as he shook his head.

“Great job Raphael, but we’re not exactly done here yet. We’ve just got one more.” Leonardo said as he looked over to his hot-headed brother, and then nudged his head forward.

Raphael turned around and now looked over to the other side of the deck, only to now look over to the white haired Mexican woman who seemed to be the last remaining member of Team Mexico.

Leonardo then looked over to Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello— who remained unconscious considering his unfortunate mishap in his match. The field leader of the Turtles then would nod to his brothers as he was quite proud of them for their progress in the tournament, becoming even better ninjas after having gone against practitioners of other unique styles in the world of Martial Arts. He now looked ahead of himself once more, and took note of the Latina woman now stepping her way over towards the middle of the deck. Leonardo stepped forth, eager to now meet the woman who would be his opponent. The two closed in towards one another and paused with only four feet of space between them, and now locked eyes with one another.

“You and your compadres did real good, Tortuga.” Angel spoke out.

“This tournament hasn’t exactly been easy. But where would the challenge be in that?” Leonardo responded.

Angel nodded her head as she smiled brightly before she turned to a spin and then met the Turtle once more, snapping into her own righting stance with her hands held open.

Leonardo then took in a light breath of air through his nostrils and he released a deep sigh from within as he nodded in regards to his opponent and then bowed as a sign of respect before he then reached up with his right arm and then took hold of the handle of one of his twin ninjaken swords, now drawing it out from within the sheathes that were slung over his shoulders and his back. He would spin the weapon in his grasp before positioning the weapon vertically and then wrapped both hands around the handle of his weapon.

“It’s like you said, Leo! We only got one more to go through! It’s all you, man!” Raphael hollered.

“You got this, dude!” Michelangelo cheered.

Leonardo and Angel looked to one another, both posed in their battle stances as they readied themselves for the final match between their respective teams.

The next match up between the Mirage Turtles and Team Mexico has been finally posted and I suppose that this was probably going to be the final match up between the two teams. Writing up the match up between Raphael and El Fuerte was relatively easy to do considering that both the comments and the votes seemed to suggest that Raphael would've made quick work of El Fuerte, and finally reviewing his move set to use as inspiration for the recap-- I can somewhat agree with that and hopefully that was something which I reflected in the recap of the battle. I tried to get as many of El Fuerte's moves in the recap as well, but looking at his move set-- well, it seemed as if a lot of his moves were based on running back and forth in a speedy way, which... wasn't too hard to write out.

Now this match is probably going to be an interesting one because not only is it an inter-gender match but probably one which is will probably be a challenge for Leonardo considering that according to Angel's backstory-- she's a NESTS super soldier that had been enhanced to superhuman levels. But seeing as Leonardo has fought superhuman enemies in Mirage TMNT canon and even defeating superhuman opponents like Leona Heidern, Kyo Kusanagi and recently, Ryuji Yamazaki-- I would think that this would be one hell of a good match up to see. So hopefully, this one will be really interesting and get people involved!

Remember-- ENVIRONMENT IS ALSO A FACTOR IN THIS BATTLE! Something I feel like people need to seriously consider.

For new readers who are just hopping onto this storyline here, I suggest you look at the Mirage TMNT Respect Thread to see what the Mirage Turtles are more than capable of.

--

Leonardo (Mirage) is Low Tier Superhuman in terms of physicals. Think Above Peak Human due to his mutation and training.

Leonardo (Mirage) possesses his Ninjaken, Hoahmaru's Katana, Shurikens, Smoke Bombs, and Kunai.

Angel is low-tier superhuman due to her enhancements by NESTS.

Angel has her moveset from the KOF games.

Since the turtles watch a lot of TV I think Leo might start recognizing Angel doing moves like The Rock. That may be her undoing as Leonardo will get used to her enhanced abilities and start expecting the people's elbow and the rock bottom.

Yeah, most incarnations of the TMNT do watch television whether they are in the sewers or if they're in Casey and April's apartment-- so I would think that Leonardo more or less would adapt VERY quickly to Angel's moves and techniques, and considering that he fought Leona-- who CANONICALLY fought Angel, and the two are neck and neck-- this might be something which he maybe able to get used to and adapt VERY quickly indeed.

Thanks for the comment and break down, Leroy!

Correct me if I'm wrong, RakaiThwei, would Angel be the most physically strong character any of the turtles have fought thus far? Or perhaps Terry Bogard?

Either way, this is a much bigger challenge for the turtles than El Fuerte. I think she can pull off the upset. Angel uses the unchain system which makes her have the most complex move set in almost all of fighting games in my opinion. Her combos can go in so many different directions that I don't think Leo will be able to counter her power.

Also great job as always on the recap.

Assuming we count KOF: A New Beginning as canon (which it likely is if my source is correct), then Angel would indeed be the most physically powerful of Team Mexico considering that she's got cybernetics going on for her-- assuming the manga is canon since the games really don't state HOW she was enhanced, and even then, Angel has inhibitors which pretty much keep her at a controlled level from a remote location by NESTS. The only time Angel was uninhibited was when Leona had tapped into her Orochi power which she had some minor control of, and even then that was pushing Angel to her limits.

And as far as this arc is concerned, Leonardo DID defeat Leona who did tap into her Orochi power. So that is something to consider but if we are talking strictly canon-- the TMNT have fought cyborgs before, and even legit DEITIES such as Cronus, the Father of Zeus, and SURVIVED.

Another great set-up, Rakai. Good recap with Raphael and El Fuerte. I thought Fuerte would've tagged Raph a little more, but the final vote indicated otherwise, and the recap reflected that very nicely.

As for the match, Angel might give Leonardo more trouble than his average opponent in the tournament so far with her physicals (no, I don't mean her figure 😛 ) and cross-up moves (there's one normal move of hers where it looks like she jumps over her opponent and kicks them from behind). Still, Leo has already fought some of the most powerful and skilled fighters in this tourney (some of which are in Angel's orbit) and even beaten his share of them. In a pretty tough fight, I think Leo will eventually prevail.

Raph has all around become much more controlled as an individual here, vicious on the battlefield, and not without his anger and rage, but still much more mature than the Raphael most people think of. The matches you have been writing too Rakai, have managed to illustrate the progress he has made in many of the more recent comics, as he is still able to restrain himself and focus on the fight more than just blinded rage, getting in many great hits on an opponent in spite of both the pain and the frustration that come with a drawn out battle which can bring both to the table easily. I felt a lot of the impact on both fighters here too, and the final splash into the pool that Fuerte took here, was a pretty vivid visual, and provoked at least a minor sense of dread for the Luchador if one thought too much into it. That being said, the break did continue to help your growth Rakai, as you haven't lost your writing ability since, and are continuing to grow all the more as a well, good work man.👍

Leonardo will have his hands full with Angel here, as her speed is incredible, that is to say her kicks and jabs can easily outpace most other fighters if they're are not careful. Additionally, her jump kicks and leaping kicks will certainly cause problems for Leo too, as the ship's deck, in spite of whichever condition it may be left in by now, heh, is definitely cluttered with objects and open space, but not space capable of being ultimately useful to Leo in this particular fight, hence any backpedaling he may have to do will have to come strategically or not at all here. Angel is very fast to say the least, and could pose a decent problem if  Leo lets his guard down too much and skimps in his defense, but if he is able to outpace her somehow, I can see him easily gaining some decent attacks in on her. Another way, I can see it going, is if Leo is able to try and get her to lose too much energy, tire her out a bit, ala the Clubber Lang method of wearing out an opponent, he will have a very decent chance of not only winning but winning an even greater tad easier. Leo's sword may work too his advantage in the Lang method as well, as it can act somewhat like boxing gloves here, in blocking many of Angel's rapid fire strikes against him here.

Yeah, I was wondering where you've been man! Glad to see that you're still around here! And yeah, the holiday break was needed because I was busy with work and in the realm of retail-- you always have to put the customers and the store first, and you also need as much rest as you can because the Christmas holiday season can be an extremely brutal and cruel season to work in. So I had to put real life ahead and then come back to where I left off, and figure out how to cope with that draw outcome that Donatello suffered in his match up. Draw match outcomes can be a real pain in the ass to deal with, I tell ya!

That's a very detailed and interesting breakdown here to consider! I really like how you thought about this, and I can definitely see this as being something of an extremely difficult battle for Leonardo but we also need to remember that he as taken on enemies who are in their own right Superhuman, and one of them being Leona Heidern, whom Leonardo forced into tapping into her Orochi power and managed to defeat her. And as far as KOF canon goes, Angel and Leona fought-- and Angel pushed Leona to tap into Orochi power, but when Leona did-- even Angel with her inhibitors removed was able to keep up, albeit was pushing so hard to the point of destroying her own body, while Leona for the most part, held together.

While Angel does outclass Leonardo in terms of power and speed, Leonardo does have something of the tactical mind and perhaps is more skilled than Angel considering his level of experience, technique, and overall skill.
