THE TRUE CHOSEN ONE: A 2ND FIGHTING GAME CROSSOVER PART 22

(Mortal Kombat/Killer Instinct/BlazBlue/Darkstalkers/Guilty Gear/Bloody Roar/Red Earth/Eternal Champions/
Mace: The Dark Age)

In the battle of purple hatted magic casters, Nine the Phantom was proving to have a deeper bag of tricks than her counterpart, Tessa. Still, Tessa was resilient and determined to not allow Nine’s power to overwhelm her. Tessa used her wand to summon blocks of ice and shot them at Nine. Nine blew a fireball out of her hand like she was blowing a kiss and immediately melted the projectiles. Tessa followed with a sliding attack that briefly caught Nine off guard, and then Tessa followed with a jumping kick. Again, Nine blew a kiss at Tessa, this time producing a large gust of wind that pushed back Tessa several feet and knocked her to the ground. Tessa quickly rose back up and conjured a small purple cannon that fired a cannonball at Nine. Nine disappeared in a flash of purple energy before the cannonball could reach her and reappeared behind Tessa. Nine attacked Tessa with an earth tremor that kept Tessa off balance, then the legendary mage trapped Tessa in a large block of ice. Tessa telepathically summoned her staff to assault Nine and buy herself some time. Tessa exploded out of her icy containment and fired blue orbs at Nine. Nine summoned a magical mirror that zoomed out in front of her and shielded her from Tessa’s orb blasts. As soon as the mirror dissipated, Nine fired off a thin double beam of black and red eldritch energy that flattened Tessa on her back. Nine used her magic to produce a cloud that hovered over Tessa as she attempted to recover and zapped the hero ten times with lightning bolts.

NINE: Is this really the best you can do, Sorcerologist?

Tessa kept coming. She rolled toward Nine and attacked the phantom with a sliding kick assisted by a black cat that appeared from underneath her baggy pants to extend the reach of the kick. Tessa used her powers to create a large fan underneath Nine and a lever which Tessa pulled to blow Nine into the air. Nine regained control of her body while in the air and glided back toward Tessa. Tessa pointed her wand toward Nine and with much effort produced four little ghost minions to hold off the great sage. Tessa used her remaining energy to again summon her staff to attack Nine from behind. Surrounded by Tessa’s ghostly constructs and her telepathically controlled weapon, Nine took off her hat and with a loud scream, shot out a huge beam of magical purple energy that eradicated all the ghosts and then lifted her back leg and shot a similar all-encompassing beam that blasted away Tessa’s staff. Then Nine made a motion with her hands reaching for the ground,. Black metal crosses and volcanic fire rose from the ground encircling Tessa. With her vision obscured, Tessa was a sitting duck for large arrow shaped purple energy constructs to attack her from every direction. She was hit continuously until Tessa fell to the ground in incredible pain. Nine brought down a pillar of fire on Tessa’s back for good measure. She then walked over to Tessa and stomped on the back of her head with her heel.

NINE: I had such high hopes for you. Now I’m filled with only disappointment.

Nine dug her heel in more with each line she spoke.

NINE: Perhaps you could have beaten him again, but you are nowhere near strong enough to cause the kind of chaos I was seeking when I caught on to your arrival. At this point, it is probably better to just eliminate all four of you to prevent any inconveniences later on.

Nine took off her witch’s hat again and twirled it on her finger.

NINE: Who should I target first? Hmmm I know…

Nine teleported away in a sphere of purple fire. Tessa struggled to lift up her head and saw a small supernatural clock hovering over her. The clock had only four hash marks on it that were each imbued with a different color flame as the hand on the clock passed it. Once the hand made a complete 360 degree revolution all of the area around Tessa exploded into multicolored flames.

Kenji’s search for Mai Ling had brought the ninja to South America. His belief that finding Lavia would help him find Mai Ling, due to them fighting at the time of the martial artist’s disappearance, led him to pursue a story of a harpy sighting in a small village in the Amazon.

When he arrived at the village, Lavia was nowhere in sight. However, the destruction brought about by the monster was apparent. Villagers were in the process of rebuilding their homes, although there was one man that caught Kenji’s eye that stood out amongst the others. He looked nothing like the other villagers and was not lifting a finger to help with the restoration. In fact, he was being tended to by some of the other villagers as he sat nonchalantly. Kenji assumed he must be the leader.

KENJI: Is this the village that was attacked by a harpy?

RAIN: It is.

KENJI: Were you able to defeat the harpy? Was there a girl with it?

RAIN: The harpy is gone for now. There was a girl fighting it before I arrived. She tried to put down the beast, but she failed.

Kenji feared the worst for his friend.

RAIN: She was cut up pretty bad by that monster’s talons. She is fortunate to be alive, she might not be for much longer.

KENJI: Where is she?

Rain pointed in the direction of a nearby hut. Kenji raced over to the hut and barged through the door. Inside, an elderly lady tended to an injured woman, however the injured woman wasn’t Mai Ling much to Kenji’s relief. The woman had blonde hair and a warrior’s build. Rain entered in the hut behind Kenji.

RAIN: Do you know her?

KENJI: No. I thought….it was someone else.

RAIN: According to the villagers, she landed some devastating blows of her own. That could explain the monster’s retreat and disappearance, to give it time to recover from its wounds.

KENJI: You are not from here?

RAIN: Most certainly not, Earthrealmer. I am an Edenian god. I just came when I heard this place was in trouble.

KENJI: Forgive me, I am not of this world. I have no idea what an Edenian god is.

RAIN: Not of this world? How did you arrive here?

KENJI: Through magic.

RAIN: Do you know of this harpy? Is that how it got here?

KENJI: Yes, her name is Lavia, we are from the same world, and yes that is what I believe to have happened

RAIN: Are there other monsters like Lavia? Did they travel with you to this world?

KENJI: There are several different city destroying monsters in my world, whether or not they also traveled to this world I do not know.

RAIN: But you don’t know the woman that fought it the first time.

Kenji looked down at the badly injured Maya.

KENJI: No, I do not. I have never seen her before. She did provide us with a great opportunity, though. If Lavia is slowed down by injuries in any way then we should be able to track her down and finish the job if we hurry. Perhaps we will also find my missing friend.

RAIN: I can’t do that.

KENJI: Huh?

RAIN: There are also rumblings of demonic activity nearby, I will not leave this village unprotected. There is no need to hunt, Lavia will return of her own accord at some point, I am sure of it.

KENJI: I understand your position, but I can’t afford to wait. I shall pursue Lavia by myself.

Kenji raced out of the hut. He had made it a few miles outside of the village when a human form emerged from a nearby stream. It was Rain.

RAIN: I can’t let you hunt and kill Lavia.

KENJI: What? I don’t understand.

RAIN: I did not want to say anything in front of the ignorant villagers, but the truth is I am not here to protect them. Their meaningless lives mean nothing to me. There is a civil war right now in Outworld, everyone is vulnerable. If I can amass a strong enough army, I can seize the throne. That is why I am here, to bend the harpy to my will. The fact that there may be even more interdimensional monsters from your world has only strengthened my resolve. Once the monsters are under my command, strong warriors like the Shotokans will soon follow. Even the demonic activity I referred to before, it could just be superstitious mumbo jumbo, or it could be another potential piece to my ascendency. Either way I intend to find out.

KENJI: I only came here to find my friend; I have no interest in whatever civil war you are participating in.

RAIN: Sometimes people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t allow you to hunt down the harpy and now that you know my true intentions…

Rain formed a hand blade from the water.

RAIN: I can’t let you leave here alive.

Kenji pulled out his sword and the two warriors came to blows.

Another great addition to your story arc Johnny!

I really hope Kenji wins this, like Tessa he is one of the four main heroes of Red Earth canon who helped save their world from creatures such as dragon/T-Rex hybrids, Krakens, and the Harpy monster mentioned in this part of the story. He’s clearly meant to be a high tier fighter in canon unlike Rain who in the MK canon regularly loses more fights then he wins. Pulling for Kenji to win!

You just had to bring up all the loses Rain has in his box. I hate how they do him. He's one of my favorites.

Johnny had me worried for a minute as Rain was talking about protecting the villagers.

Nothing about his character or stats say that Rain should be loosing fights like he does. I think if plot devise was eliminate Rain would be a top tier character.

I'm voting for him.
