Chapter 4: An Unlikely Alliance

With a quick movement, Gazelle sliced through Cara's neck with one of her bladed legs. The Ranger's head dropped on the ground below while her headless body fell forward. Gazelle sauntered past her fallen opponent and stood over the unconscious body of Carson Teva. After looking over the scorch marks on his body from the explosions, the lethal assassin reached into his pocket. She took out the data drive that she was ordered to get. After obtaining the highly valuable drive, the assassin stood up high over the bodies of the fallen Rangers. A grim smile formed across her cheeks while her thoughts went to another successful mission. She disappeared in the dark smoke that surrounded what was left of the New Republic outpost. Gazelle made her way to her starfighter. She climbed into her ship and started flipping the switches to get the ship to roar to life. The deadly assassin looked up in the sky above, and set the controls to leave behind this planet.

As her ship ascended into the clouds above, the assassin sent a transmission to her benefactor. Gazelle sat back in her seat and looked over the data drive that she had obtained. While there were unusual markings and other strange areas on this particular drive, the assassin did not give it much thought. She set her coordinates for the Cobra headquarters. Gazelle was going to personally deliver the driver to Destro. The deadly assassin knew that Destro could potentially give her more opportunities to expand her services across this ever-expanding galaxy. As her ship entered into hyperspace, Gazelle opened her screen to see what other assignments that she had waiting for her. Her dark pupils gazed over the list of names while her mind started planning on which assignments that she would take. While she started piecing together what her work week would be, a beeping noise started echoing through the ship. Her dark eyes moved from the list of potential targets to an incoming transmission.

Gazelle pressed the button on the transmission. Her dark eyes widened as she saw a small holographic image of Destro forming before her. While the weapons manufacturer had his arms against his chest, he had a distinct look of satisfaction over his metallic face. Before the deadly assassin could mutter out a word, the Cobra operative broke the silence between them.

"You have done well, Gazelle!" Destro exclaimed. "For your successful mission, I am doubling your compensation."

"Thank you, Destro. That is extremely generous of you." Gazelle responded.

"Don't mention it, my dear." Destro said as his arms dropped. "Think of it as a bonus for the jobs that Cobra has planned for you."

"That is too kind, but I do have other employers that expect me to finish my other jobs." Gazelle responded.

"Do not worry about that, my dear. You are now with Cobra. We certainly have big plans for you." Destro smiled. "Now tell me, did anything unusual when you retrieved the drive?"

"There was a Mandalorian in silver armor with what appeared to be a young Child that delivered the drive to the New Republic. It appeared he was friends with one of them. A female Ranger. He left with the Child before I saw the mission through." Gazelle responded.

"How many casualties?" Destro asked.

"Most of the Rangers. The one that had the drive, a pilot was badly injured. I decapitated the female Ranger." Gazelle replied with a cold smile.

"I see..." Destro sighed. "I have heard of a Mandalorian such as that. He caused issues for a particular Imperial officer. We will need to keep our eyes on him in case he becomes an issue later."

The transmission ended shortly after as Gazelle approached the coordinates. While her ship left hyperspace, she saw a planet not far away. As her ship descended from the stars, she saw what appeared to be a heavily weaponized fortress just ahead. Gazelle landed her ship on a flight deck, and was immediately greeted by the leader of M.A.R.S. Industry. Destro threw out his arms while greeting the deadly assassin. She handed him the drive and he quickly looked it over. The weapons manufacturer handed the drive off as he gestured for Gazelle to follow some other Cobra operatives. Destro watched as Gazelle disappeared into the Cobra base. The weapons manufacturer then followed a group of soldiers into the base. He sauntered into a room of specialists that was analyzing the data drive. Holograms of a Galactic map filled the room while scientists analyzed every inch of the map. One of the Cobra scientists finally muttered, "The map is incomplete."

"It is very much complete." Destro said while walked through the holograms. "The issue is that it needs to be fully opened and deciphered."

"And how do we do that, Destro?!" Cobra Commander hissed while walking into the room.

"Commander, there is a key that was believed to be created from the heart of a star. It can be pressed into the center of the drive while there is a decoder tool that can decipher what it says." Destro responded.

"And where is this special key? Cobra Commander asked.

"It is believed to be in a cave on Endor. Rumors circulated that Palpatine was after it before..." Destro responded before going quiet. "Well before his untimely demise."

"And the decoder?" Cobra Commander growled.

"There is a rumor that a Mandalorian blacksmith created a tool that could decipher the map. The tool is rumored to be in a museum on Coruscant." Destro replied.

"Send operatives to get these items." Cobra Commander hissed.

"Already done, Commander. I have an operative that is fresh off the Doctor's table. You were even interested in his abilities. I am sending him to Endor." Destro replied.

"What of Coruscant?" Cobra Commander asked.

"I have another planned for that one. Both are highly trained and will not bring attention to Cobra." Destro responded.

Sauntering through the Cobra base, the weapons manufacturer walked into the laboratory of Dr. Mindbender. Shifting from underneath his metallic face, Destro's eyes lurked around the different horrific experiments of the Cobra scientist. While making his way through the laboratory, he looked over a secure door that stood between him and one of Mindbender's subjects. Destro gritted his teeth while using his keycard to open the secure door. The Cobra operative made his way inside and saw the subject sitting with his back turned away from the door. Destro's dark eyes analyzed the subject while he glanced around the room. The weapons manufacturer had heard stories about this particular subject and his previous escape attempts. Destro knew that this one was cunning and dangerous. Despite the previous escape attempts, the subject sat quietly in his room with his back toward Destro.

"What do you want?" The subject asked while not moving a single muscle.

"You have certainly impressed the Commander, and that is not something to be taken lightly for a man your age." Destro muttered.

"Why are you here?" The subject asked.

"I want to hire you." Destro said while circling around the blue skinned creature. "I have heard of your reputation, Cad Bane. Your dealings with the Separatist during the Clone Wars are legendary, and your work with the Pykes is quite fascinating. You certainly are a capable killer."

"Then you are aware that I do not work for free. My services are expensive." Cad Bane replied while turning his red eyes towards Destro.

"Price is not a concern of mine as you should be aware. We found you on that dusty planet and patched you up. That was not cheap by any means!" Destro exclaimed with a large grin. "But the Commander knew of your potential and you could be a wonderful asset for Cobra."

"Not interested." Cad Bane replied with a cold voice.

"On top of your freedom, we will pay you quite handsomely. We can even provide you with the means of killing Boba Fett." Destro replied.

"What's the job?" Bane growled.

"On Endor, there is a sacred key that we will be needing to fulfill our ultimate goal. The Commander desperately needs that key." Destro replied.

"How do I find it?" Cad Bane asked.

"The Empire was searching for it some time ago before the Second Death Star was destroyed. It should still be in an archeological site that they were digging in." Destro replied.

"Should I be expecting any problems?" Cad Bane asked.

"If you do, then I am sure that a man of your skills would find a way to deal with the issue. We have your weapons and supplied ready for you." Destro responded with a smile.

On Endor,

Spitting out on the ground, Rocket Raccoon walked through the thick forests of Endor. The sun was beating down through the top of the high trees and against his furry neck while he glared at the different wildlife that roamed through the woods. He growled and shook his head while thinking about what the rest of the Guardians were doing. The small inventor was livid after Quill had sent him to this galaxy far, far away. While following his tracker he had on him through this strange wilderness, he saw traces of the Imperial remnants that were left behind during the Galactic Civil War. The small Guardian of the Galaxy thought about salvaging some scraps that were left behind, but he did not want to waste his time with the damaged equipment. He just wanted to find this special artifact and get back to Knowhere. While walking over twigs, he saw what appeared to be primitive traps set throughout these woods.

As he avoided the traps that were set forth by the planet's natives, Rocket found himself surrounded by a group of fluffy creatures. The creatures were slightly taller than him but did not possess any advanced weaponry. The Guardian of the Galaxy assumed that they were the same natives that set the primitive traps. With a growl, Rocket took out one of his cannons to blast his way through these creatures. Before he could squeeze the trigger, one of the creatures lowered their spears. The creature spoke with an unknown dialect that even Rocket's translator was unable to detect. The small Guardian of the Galaxy saw that the other creatures were lowering their primitive weapons while slowly approaching Rocket. With a groan, the Guardian holstered his weapon and put out his hand. Deep in the pit of his chest, he felt that these creatures did not pose any threat to him or meant to do any harm. Before he could say a word, he heard a crashing sound from within the trees.

A large beast emerged from the forest, and the creatures started to scatter. The beast was able to grab hold of one of the small creatures and Rocket immediately drew his weapons. With a quick shot, he was able to shoot the beast down and rescue one of the native creatures. After witnessing the beast get defeated by the stranger, the Ewoks led Rocket to their village. After tinkering with his translator, Rocket was able to communicate slightly with the Ewoks. The creatures provided Rocket with food and water. While they celebrated the defeat of the terrifying beast, Rocket sat back and looked over the fire that they had danced around. The Guardian shook his head and rose to his feet. He gritted while starting to walk away from the village. While he appreciated the hospitality that was shown by the Ewoks, Rocket did not want to waste much more time in this unknown galaxy. As he started walking toward the forest, he was confronted by a group of the Ewoks.

After multiple attempts at trying to communicate with the creatures, Rocket was able to convey that he was searching for a key. After distorted sounds came through on his translating device, Rocket was able hear the Ewoks say that the key was hidden ages ago within a cave. When the people of the stars came, they started searching for the key. They found its location deep within cave and started digging but before they could get the key, they were defeated. The Ewoks believed that the key was sacred. Rocket sighed while trying to communicate that he was not here to cause them harm. His captain sent him here to retrieve the key so that they could prevent a much worse evil from spreading across multiple galaxies. The Ewoks could see the good with this small creature. They told Rocket that at sunrise, they would lead him to the cave. With a grin, Rocket nodded at the Ewoks.

With the early sunrise, Rocket followed a small group of the Ewoks through the thick forest. Through the harsh trek, the group made it to the sacred cave. The Guardian of the Galaxy could see the remnants of the Imperial excavation equipment. Since the Empire's defeat, these Imperial tools were abandoned. Moss had formed around the drill equipment. Rocket could see that there was some hesitancy amongst the Ewoks as they walked over to the cave entrance. As he approached the cave, a strange scent caught his attention. Before he could react or warm his new friends, several lightning-fast shots rang out from the tree line. Rocket jumped for cover behind the Imperial machines. He cried out as he looked out from behind the old machinery and saw the fallen Ewoks.

"Leave now, rodent and I will spare you life!" An old voice roared out.

Rocket watched as the image of a stranger with a large hat emerged from the trees. From what he could see, the stranger had blue skin and bright red eyes.

"I am goin' to rip your face off, you dumb hat wearin' lunatic!" Rocket hissed.

"You aren't fast enough." Cad Bane growled.

"I'll show you how fast I am, old man!" Rocket roared.

"Huh" Bane chuckled. "I will shoot down where you stand, rodent!"
