Match 19670 Chip Chase vs. Mai Linh

Previously: Major Lennox and Agent Fowler went to visit Chip Chase when it was discovered the Chase had cracked the Decepticon’s communication code. The Decepticons had sent Laserbeak to deal with the security breach and Lennox fought him off as Fowler got Chip away.

 

 

As part of a joint human-Autobot task force, both species were supposed to be assigned to operations.

One of the Autobots was Cliffjumper. He was posing as their car. And had to maintain the guise of the getaway car as Agent Fowler got Chip out of the area.

“That was one of those robot aliens!” Chip exclaimed as the car drove away. He would deal with the fact that it was driving itself later.

“Yeah. The bad guys.” Fowler kept his eyes back and high to be sure to spot the enemy coming.

“What about your friend?”

“He’ll be alright. He’s trained to fight Decepticons.”

“Are we going anywhere in particular?” Was Chip’s next question.

“Autobot City.” Fowler snarled, his eyes never leaving their rear.

Chip became excited. “Really? That’s a place I thought I’d never get to see.”

When the Autobots came to Earth they originally intended to oppose Decepticon incursion covertly. But the earthlings were a perceptive bunch and they kept being spotted. Eventually Optimus Prime decided to approach Earth governments and explain their presence.

As Decepticon activity verified what Prime was saying individual nations began making deals to allow Autotobots to wage their war under restrictive conditions. The more the Decepticons pushed, the more Earth governments realized they needed Autobot help in opposing them.

Thus Autobot city was established. It served as the Autobots main headquarters of Earth and its hub for human interaction.

Fowler and Chip made it there without incident. By city standards Autobot City wasn’t that big, perhaps the size of suburb of a larger metropolis. When there were no alerts, civilian highways lead straight through and there was even a small town several miles away to service travelers.

When Fowler and Chip got out of the car, the vehicle suddenly tranformed into a robot- Cliffjumper.

“That’s the last time I play Uber!” He sounded really pissed. “I’m going back for Lennox!” He went right back into car mode and screeched off.

Fowler ignored him and wheeled Chip where he wanted to take him.

Chip took in the sights, bipedal robots the size of dinosaurs lumbering and loitering. Humans doing the same. Chip wondered if anybody ever got stepped on.

Pushed into a large control looking room, Fowler finally stopped maneuvering Chip’s wheelchair. A powerful looking mech with a white and blue color scheme watched them enter.

“This is Ultra Magnus, commander of Autobot city. He oversees all Autobot operations on Earth.”

“Mr. Chase.” was the big bot’s greeting.

“Hi.”

“You’ve broken Decepticon code. On primitive Earth equipment.”

“Yeah. I tend to do things like that.”

“We brought you here because it’s not safe for you out there, as you’ve just discovered. We can’t make you do anything but if you’ll help us with your decoding program maybe we can end the Decepticon threat and get you back to your civilian life.”

“You may not be able to tell sir, but I’m very excited to be here.”

Ultra Magnus stared at him.

Fowler stepped in. “Magnus, let me take him for a tour.”

Showing Chip some of the public areas of Autobot city, Fowler finished off with the code hub.

“This is where we work best with humans. Earth computer codes might be primitive by Autobot standards but they work differently from Cybertronian data. They could simply override our stuff but then that would destroy our networks and the Autobots would have to manage our systems. That’s something Optimus Prime ain’t having. Not because they wouldn’t want the hassle but because he doesn’t the Autobots to take over the world. He believes in our freedom and autonomy. That’s why he has the Autobots here. And that’s why we work with him.”

“So the humans that work here monitor Earth networks keeping an eye out for Decepticon breaches.”

“That’s right.”

“But I have the Decepticon’s code. Wouldn’t it be wise to use it for an offensive action?”

Fowler smiled beside himself. “You’re gonna be liked by a lot of the bots here, Chip. Let’s get you set up at a station.”

His eye gleaming at the opportunity, his lips curling into a smile at the challenges, Chip began immediately working on a virus. Soon, he began to see something wrong. There was some errors in the Autobot/human interface programming. He made a note of them but as more of them started showing up his cunning brain started to see something more sinister than mere mistakes.

Someone was sabotaging the program. They were very subtle and once activated it would be hard to neutralize it, trace it or even find it for that matter. His first inclination was to report the phenomenon. But this was obviously the product someone who worked here. Someone who was likely in the room right now.

He had to deal with this privately.

Just three stations away, Mai Linh could see that her sabotage program had been discovered. Whoever it was that had discovered it was neglecting to report it. The idiot probably figured he could deal with it on his own.

Let the cyber battle begin.

 

Fight Parameters:

 

Chip Chase has found that someone is trying to sabatage the Autobot/human tech interface program. Mai Linh- a mere three stations away from him- is the culprit. She will try to crash his computer or make it look like he’s the one putting in the virus or whatever.

 

Vote for Chip Chase if he can stop her virus and expose her.

 

Vote for Mai Linh if she can fend off Chase’s attempts to thrawt her virus and expose her.

 

Note: this is cyber warfare. No physical confrontation.

I think I remember this girl from the 4th Die Hard film. Specifically I remember her kicking McClane’s ass for a bit which was pretty awesome. Was she a hacker though? I thought that main villain Thomas Gabriel was the hacker and she was the muscle?

Huh, good set-up, leroy. It's kinda funny that I'm reading this now after watching the first Die Hard film through for the first time last night.   

I've barely seen parts of any Die Hard film after the second one, so I'm not familiar with Mai Linh. Some sources say that Mai only hacks as a hobby, so Chip, who virtually lives in front of computers, IIRC, just might have the edge here.
