As shown in the episode with the time travelling snake civilisation, Rick isn't really equipped to deal with time travelling opponents (he had to call in a third party). Whilst he does have a formidable arsenal, Kang's tech has shown to be even stronger - withstanding the likes of Thor, Hercules, Silver Surfer, and more. 

He could incorporate all this, including the ability to send people through time, into his Battle Bot, making an overpowering beast of a machine that Rick can't keep up with.

Yeah, with the various times Kang's squared off against the Avengers and the like, he'd definitely be more suitable to make a Battlebot for combat.
