Steve Harrington had just started his shift at the Family Video Movie Club, when one of his first customers caught his eye. He hadn’t seen her around before in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, and she was gorgeous. He approached her immediately.

“Hello, my name is Steve. Can I help you find anything?”

“Hi Steve. I’m Jennifer. Looking for something good to watch tonight,” the girl replied.

“What are you in the mood for? We have comedies, action movies, family movies..”

“Where are your erotic thrillers and your horror movies?”

“Right this way.”

Steve brought her to the thriller/horror section and started to list off his personal suggestions. She stared at him intently, but it was clear she wasn’t listening.

“You’re cute,” Jennifer finally said. “I bet you do really well with the girls in this town.”

“Um, excuse me?”

“In fact, I bet you’re the perfect guy to show a new girl who just recently moved here a good time.” Jennifer paused for a moment. “I’ve just changed my mind. I don't want to watch any of these old movies. I want to see something new.”  She cocked her head to the left. “Wouldn’t you enjoy experiencing something new?”

“There is a new horror movie that came out last weekend. If you would like to go, I would love to take you. I just can’t tonight, I have to work.”

Jennifer sighed. “What a pity. I guess I’ll have to find someone else to go to the movies with tonight.”

At that moment, Steve’s friend and co-worker, Robin, walked by. “Steve, I’m about to head out for the day. Don’t forget to change out the display in the front window before you leave tonight.”

An idea began to form inside Steve’s head.

Elsewhere, the doorbell of the Henderson home rang, and Dustin answered it to find Nancy Wheeler on the other side.

“Hey Nancy, what are you doing here?”

“We need to talk.”

Nancy brushed past Dustin with manila envelopes in her arms and placed them on his kitchen counter.

“Is your mom home?” Nancy wondered.

“No.. and you still haven’t answered my question.”

“You’ve heard about all of those disappearances that have been happening right?” Nancy asked pointedly.

“Yeah, seven people in two weeks.”

“Not just seven people, seven guys aged 17 to 20. Don’t you find that strange?”

“Of course. But I’ve just come to accept the fact that this town is cursed." Realization set in for Dustin.  "Wait a minute, you don’t think it’s related to the upside down do you?”

Nancy bit her lip. “I’m not sure what to think. But I have a bad feeling that it could be.”

“But we closed the gate. How could anything get through and why would it be targeting a specific type of person? The Demogorgon didn’t do that. And it really doesn’t fit the Mind Flayer’s M.O. neither.”

“I know. That’s why I brought these.” Nancy pointed to the folders. “I wanted to brainstorm with someone what could be going on. I tried with Jonathan but he was trying to brush it off as me being paranoid and those types of conversations are hard to have long distance anyway.”

Dustin was stunned. “So, you picked me?”

“Yeah. As much as we tried and failed to shield you guys from it, you, Mike, and Lucas have always been involved in the craziness since the day Will went missing. With Mike in California visiting Eleven, it doesn’t leave many other options for people who understand these things.”

“Thanks.. I think.”

“I brought the case files of all seven ongoing cases. Have a look. Let me know what sticks out to you.”

Dustin poured over some of the case files about the disappearances and then briefly paused. “Wait, Nance, how do you get these?”

“Don’t worry about it,” Nancy assured.

Apprehension appeared in Dustin’s voice. “Nancy, what did you do?”

“I made friends with Florence at Hopper’s funeral,” Nancy answered quickly.

“Who’s Florence?”

“She is the secretary at the Hawkins Police Station. She was really broken up over Hopper’s death and we bonded. We talk a couple of times a week. I told her about my time as an investigative reporter and she sent me these,”

“Oh..uh..cool.”

Dustin returned to reading the files.

“Any thoughts?” asked Nancy.

“Four of them have witness testimony talking about seeing a mystery girl with long black hair hanging out with the victims before they disappeared…”

“Yeah, she is the prime suspect. She doesn’t appear in all of the cases, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t there,” Nancy reasoned. “Unfortunately no one knew her name and Florence says they don’t have much to go on other than her hair.”

“Then we are most likely talking about a possible serial killer and not something supernatural. Not that that it is much better, but you know.”

Nancy shook her head. “No. I just have this gut feeling that it’s something else.”

“CODE RED! CODE RED! DUSTIN DO YOU COPY? WE HAVE A CODE RED!”

Lucas’s voice echoed throughout Dustin’s house as it erupted from Dustin’s walkie. Dustin quickly ran to the walkie and picked it up.

“Lucas! I copy. Nancy is with me too. What’s the code red?”

“Max is here. She is hysterical, she says she saw a man get eaten by some demonic girl last night at the trailer park.”

Dustin’s eyes bulged. “Eaten?!?”

“Yeah man, razor sharp teeth, jaw unhinged like a snake and everything.”

Nancy grabbed the walkie from Dustin. “Lucas, can you ask Max if she knows what color hair the girl had?”

There was a brief silence before the reply. “Black. Why does that matter?”

Nancy ran back to the police files. “Our killer is some kind of cannibal?”

Dustin thought it over. “If she is luring men in and then devouring them, it sounds more like ….”

“Malcanthet,” Lucas blurted out.

“Exactly like Malcanthet,” Dustin agreed.

“Who or what is Malcanthet?” Nancy questioned

“The Queen of the Succubi.”

“Succubi? As in succubus.” Nancy’s mind raced with that information. “Tell Lucas to bring Max to my house. We can meet up there and compare notes.”

After they all agreed to the plan, Dustin grabbed his D&D manual and left with Nancy in her car.  Inside the car, he read through the information on Malcanthet and the succubi.

“Get this, Malcanthet actually had a child with the Demogorgon and it was a monster named..” Dustin stopped as he could feel the annoyance radiating from Nancy. “Actually you know what, it’s not important.” Suddenly however, Dustin’s demeanor changed, and he grabbed Nancy’s arm. “We need to turn around.”

“Why?”

“Steve! He could become a target of Malcanthet. We have to warn him. He should be at work right now.”

Nancy nodded and made a sharp left turn. Minutes later, she zoomed into the Family Video parking lot at a high speed. She and Dustin raced through the entrance in search of their friend, but instead were greeted by Robin.

“Hey, how’s it going?” Robin asked cheerfully.

Dustin skipped introductions. “Is Steve here? He told me he was working tonight.”

“He WAS supposed to be working tonight, but he asked me to cover the rest of his shift so he could go out with some girl he met here earlier,” Robin informed. “Just between you and me, I think it’s a mistake. I have never seen her around before and I got some seriously creepy vibes off of her. But all Steve could see is her pretty face, nice body, and long jet-black hair.”

Dustin gasped. “Malcanthet.”

Robin was confused. “Huh?”

“If it is the succubus then we need to act fast,” Nancy declared. “Robin, do you know where they were going on their date?”

“Did you say succubus?”

“Robin, focus, where did they go?”

“Right. They were going to go see a movie and then Steve was going to take her to Skull Rock.”

“A perfectly secluded place with no witnesses,” Dustin noted.

Nancy quickly sprung into action. “Dustin, I need you to tell me everything you know about succubi, their weaknesses, anything that you have.”

“According to most legends, they’re most vulnerable when they haven’t eaten,” Dustin offered up. "Otherwise, they are very hard to kill."

“You guys need to tell me what’s going on,” Robin interjected.

“Dustin can fill you in,” Nancy answered and then turned back to Dustin. “Stay here where it’s safe. Contact Lucas, let him know the plans have changed.”

“Where are you going?”

“To get my gun and go after them. I’m not going to let Steve get devoured tonight!”

Awesome setup, and using some great characters.

Tough one, I really do want to vote for Nancy as she's just absolutely awesome, but without all the gang this might just be too much for her.
