JohnnyChany Posted August 19 Posted August 19 THE PLAY FOR POWER PART 5 Teams and Set-up The Acolytes’ Waiting Room The team of Exodus, Rusty Collins, Frenzy, Skids, and Amelia Voght mostly kept to themselves as they watched the entirety of the match between Siryn and Dragoness. Dragoness tried her best to hold off Theresa Cassidy with electric blasts and pyrotechnic flares, but Siryn showed her skills in evading them and letting loose with her Sonic Screams. Dragoness could no longer hold out and grabbed her ears in pain. Siryn pounced on the opportunity and smashed Dragoness with a Sonic Lance that knocked the MLF member out of the sky and onto the ground. Dragoness lay unconscious and vulnerable at Siryn’s feet. But, with the victory secured Theresa simply walked away. RUSTY COLLINS: Did you see that? Siryn could’ve ended Dragoness right there, but she spared her. That’s certainly different from the other matches we’ve seen so far. SKIDS: It shouldn’t be a surprise, Rusty. Siryn’s been with the X-Men for years. Mercy is their MO. The imposing figure and leader of the Acolytes, Exodus, inserted himself into the conversation. EXODUS: Would either of you have made a similar decision, given your own history with the New Mutants and the like? RUSTY COLLINS: I... I’m not sure. It would depend on the situation, I guess. Sally Blevins, Skids, took some offense to the question. SKIDS: Are you trying to imply something, Exodus?" EXODUS: Merely making an observation. Each of us has danced between the lines of hero and villain on occasion, none more than the two of you, SKIDS: It kind of sounds like you are saying that you are not sure you can trust us, if that is true, why recruit us to your team in the first place?" EXODUS: Because you are some of the strongest and smartest mutants I’ve ever led. Why wouldn’t I want you on my side? Deep down, I believe you all still understand the importance of mutant supremacy. The physical powerhouse of the team, Joanna Cargill, stood up. FRENZY: Mutant advancement, not supremacy, Exodus. I’ve changed since my time in the Acolytes. We all have. Exodus was dismissive of this. EXODUS: Semantics, Cargill. You’re caught up in details. The end goal is what matters. The last member of the Acolytes to speak was Amelia Voght. AMELIA VOGHT: Since we’re being so forthright... I spoke with Magneto before accepting your offer, Exodus. I figured you’d learn through telepathy eventually, so might as well say it now. FRENZY: Same here. Magneto knows we’re involved, though I’m not sure what good it’ll do since none of us even know where ‘here’ actually is."\ Amelia looked directly at Exodus with a serious expression. AMELIA VOGHT: Will that be a problem? EXODUS: It won’t be a problem. You are here, are you not? So he didn’t try to dissuade you from coming. I don’t think any of you would be dumb enough to try and betray me. Above all else, when any of you step into that arena, facing probable death, you will do whatever is necessary to win. And once our team wins, we can use the power granted to us to create a new nation for mutants…a nation that will never fall. The LED screen in their waiting room flickered and displayed their team name to inform them that they would be fighting next. It also displayed the name of the team they would be up against, the Upstarts. AMELIA VOGHT: If I’m the first to fight, I hope my opponent is Fabian Cortez. I will never forgive him for his treachery within the Acolytes. The Upstarts’ Waiting Room The waiting room for the Upstarts was opulent, with dark velvet drapes, gold accents, and a large mirror reflecting the room’s eerie candlelight. Selene, the Black Queen, sat regally in an ornate chair. She reviewed a list of names of the other teams in the tournament, Her lips curled into a condescending smile. SELENE: Look at this list of competitors. So many weak and pathetic souls. How did they ever get invited to this? Near her were the four other members of her team, Fabian Cortez, Siena Blaze, Trevor Fitzroy, and Shinobi Shaw. SIENA BLAZE: Why don’t we make this more interesting, Selene? You know, like the old days. You could assign points to our potential victims. We could compete amongst ourselves for the most impressive kills. Selene’s eyes lit up with wicked enthusiasm as she nodded in agreement. SELENE: An excellent idea, Siena. Let’s add a little more excitement to this dull affair. Selene looked back at the list; her finger trailed over the names as she began assigning values. SELENE: The highest points will, of course, go to eliminating Exodus, Stryfe, Bastion, Amora, Madelyn Pryor, Juggernaut..." Selene paused for a moment. SELENE: ...And what should we do about Mr. Sinister? How many points is that devilish geneticist worth? SHINOBI SHAW: I don’t care about Sinister. I just hope I get the chance to take down my father again. Selene smirked. SELENE: Sebastian won’t be worth as many points for you this time, Shinobi. You’ve already killed him once before. Where is the innate challenge in that? TREVOR FITZROY: So, would the same law of diminishing returns apply to me if I were to face Donald Pierce again? I already put that tin man down once before. SELENE: Yes, but I may revise my decision about Sebastian. The thought of the light fading from his smug face again brings me such joy. I may award a high amount of points no matter who does it. TREVOR FITZROY: Nimrod should have a high bounty of points attached to him. But on that note, what kind of time-bending sorcery is at play here? Bastion, Nimrod, and Mastermold, all in one place? I never knew the Gamemaster had that kind of power. Siena made a face of irritation. SIENA BLAZE: I don’t care about the reasons. I just want to get into the action already! The screen in their waiting room suddenly flashed, showing that the Upstarts were up next against the Acolytes. All eyes in the room turned to Fabian Cortez who chuckled. FABIAN CORTEZ: If the Gamemaster, in his endless quest for amusement, has decided to pit me against one of the Acolytes, then so be it. I’m ready. The screen then changed to display the names of the two mutants who would be competing for their respective teams, Amelia Voght vs. Shinobi Shaw. Shinobi scowled with disappointment. SHINOBI SHAW: Amelia Voght? There is no way she will be worth many points. What a waste. FABIAN CORTEZ: Don’t be a fool, Shinobi. Never underestimate Amelia. She’s crafty and smart. Everything she does is calculated. I may want to get more points than you but we all still need to win. Shinobi scoffed at this. SHINOBI SHAW: Perhaps you should tell our leader how crafty and amazing Amelia is, to ensure her bounty is higher once I put her down. The doorways for both waiting rooms opened as the next match got underway.

leroypowell3 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Neither of these are fighters in the base sense. I think Amelia, handing with Magneto, might have a better understanding of her powers than rich boy Shinobi Shaw. I only ever saw Shinobi Shaw in his first appearance when he 'killed' his father Sebastian Shaw. Seemed kind of forced and never expected anything to come from him. Whateverthecase, Amelia gets my vote.
