BATSPIDER WARS

BATTLE 2

image.jpeg.b85bcc540e738d25fed66580cd7b170e.jpeg

Silver Sable stood at the command console on her airship with her sharp blue eyes focused on a holographic display showing a detailed file. The display flickered with images and data on their latest target: Helena Bertinelli, alias Huntress.

Silver Sable’s Wild Pack was gathered around her. Foxtrot, a muscular man with a penchant for heavy weaponry, leaned against the wall, casually cleaning a combat knife. Tango, their resident tactician, sat on the edge of a table, as he scrolled through the file on his wrist device. Juliet, the team’s sniper and scout, was perched on a chair, her rifle laid across her lap. X-Ray, the tech expert and infiltration specialist, was absorbed in his tablet, scrolling through data on Gotham’s layout.

Silver Sable, dressed in her signature white and silver combat suit, flipped to the next page on the hologram, revealing Huntress’s connections to Gotham’s underworld.

“According to our client,” Sable started, “Huntress has been a persistent thorn in their side for a long time. They’ve paid us a handsome sum to bring her in alive, but I want you all to understand exactly what we’re walking into.”

Tango crossed his arms and eyed the screen. “This Huntress must have really pissed off the Galantes if they’re so insistent on us delivering her alive. Must have something gnarly planned for her. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes.”

Juliet glanced up from her rifle. “Not sure how I feel about taking a contract from the mafia. Do we really want to get tangled up in their mess?”

Foxtrot scoffed. “Money’s money, Juliet. Their cash works just as well as any other client’s. We’re not here to ask questions; we’re here to get paid.”

X-Ray finally looked up from his tablet to join the conversation. “I’ve been analyzing the intel on Gotham. This city is crawling with vigilantes,  it’s not just Huntress. The amount of masks and capes could prove to be an obstacle. It might shorten our window to make a successful capture before someone else gets involved.”

Foxtrot was unfazed and shrugged. “Like New York isn’t crawling with costumed heroes? Spider-Man, Daredevil, Luke Cage, you name it, we have dealt with it. This will be no different.”

Tango shook his head. “Difference is, we know New York. We know how to work around those guys. Gotham? This is unfamiliar territory.”

Silvija Sablinova, Silver Sable herself, turned to face her team.

“I’ve looked into Gotham as well,” she said. “The criminal element here is not like anything we’ve seen before. The density of crime is staggering. That means, if we play our cards right, there’s a fortune in bounties waiting for us beyond just this contract.”

Foxtrot grinned, his confidence unwavering. “We’re going to clean up in this city.”

Silver Sable nodded but remained focused. “First priority is Huntress. According to her file she is skilled, and she is remorseless. That makes her dangerous. We go in, we get her, and we get out. No distractions.”

The airship descended lower into the grim cityscape of Gotham.

“Gear up,” Silver Sable ordered. “We touch down in ten. No mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Huntress was moving stealthily through the labyrinth of rusted shipping containers and abandoned warehouses at the Gotham City docks. The night was still and Helena Bertinelli’s instincts were on high alert. She had received an anonymous tip about a major exchange between rival crime families happening tonight, but as she scouted the area from atop a stack of containers, something felt off. It was deserted; not even the usual low-level thugs were skulking about. She returned to the ground and was contacted by her ally, Stephanie Brown, Batgirl. The two of them were on the current rotation to cover for the out of town Bruce Wayne.

“Huntress, you got eyes on any of this? Crime’s appearing and then disappearing before I can even blink.”

“Nope, it’s been quiet on my end, too quiet” Huntress replied. “I’ll keep an eye out though. I got a tip that something big may be going down at my location.”

This new information made Huntress more suspicious. Something was definitely going on. Unbeknownst to her, Silver Sable’s team had already moved into position. X-Ray monitored every move from his position on a nearby rooftop.

“Huntress is on the ground,” he reported in a calm and analytical tone. “Area’s clear of civilians. She’s alone, but alert. Juliet, you’re in position?”

Juliet, perched on a crane that overlooked the docks, adjusted her scope. She tightened her grip on the rifle, zeroing in on Helena’s figure below. “Target’s in my sights. She looks spooked.”

Tango’s voice crackled over the comms. “Guess this little bird might know she’s being hunted.”

Foxtrot chuckled. “She’s about to learn we’re the top predators.”

Silvija’s voice came across the comm.  “Remember, we’re taking her alive. Move in on my command.”

Helena moved closer to one of the larger boathouses. Suddenly, a faint glint caught her eye. Her gaze snapped upward, and she quickly caught sight of Juliet’s sniper rifle aimed directly at her.

“Nice try,” Helena whispered.

She smirked as she quickly fired a bolt, striking the crane’s control panel. Sparks erupted from the panel sending the crane’s arm swinging violently. Juliet’s perch jolted and threw her off balance. She struggled to regain her position, but it was too late, Huntress had already moved. Helena leapt up to a higher position, hidden behind a nearby stack of crates., She fired another bolt. This one knocked Juliet’s rifle out of her hands.

“What the—!” Juliet exclaimed.

Huntress closed the distance between them and delivered  a swift kick that sent Juliet crashing into the side of the crane. Juliet hit the ground, momentarily stunned.. Helena didn’t waste time and attacked the recovering sniper, rendering her unconscious.

Foxtrot and Tango burst from the shadows, weapons at the ready. Foxtrot charged first, swinging his baton. Huntress dodged gracefully and delivered a sharp jab to his ribs, followed by a roundhouse kick that knocked the baton from his grip.

“You’re quick,” Foxtrot grunted.  “But you’re just one woman.”

Huntress readied her staff. “Lucky for me, one’s all I need.”

Tango attempted to sweep Helena’s  legs out from under her. Helena anticipated the move,  and jumped over his attack. She slammed the end of her staff into his shoulder. Tango staggered backward. She followed up with a precise elbow strike to Foxtrot’s jaw. This sent him stumbling backward into a pile of old, rusted fishing nets.

Foxtrot tried to move back in,  but Helena was too fast, she spun on her heel and delivered a backhand that left him  briefly dazed. She smashed her staff across the top of his head, taking the big man down.

Before she could catch her breath, the door to the boathouse swung open. Silver Sable stepped into the dim light.

“Impressive,” Silvija remarked. “No wonder your bounty is so high,”

Helena held her staff ready. “You must be the ringleader of this crew. Who are you working for?”

Silver Sable’s lips curled into a bemused smile. “Now, that would be unprofessional, wouldn’t it? Let’s just say my client brought us a long way to handle this little…issue.”

Helena rolled her shoulders as she prepared herself. “If you won’t tell me what I want to know then I’m done talking.”

A determined expression spread across Silvija’s face. “So am I.”

Yeah I’m leaning Silver Sable. Huntress’s best feat was beating Barbara Gordon pretty handily. Silver Sable meanwhile has held her own against the likes of Spider-Man, Daredevil, The Punisher, and Luke Cage.

Silver Sable wins mid-diff.

Another good chapter for your Batspider Wars arc, Johnny. You keep finding ways of matching up characters with similar skillsets and personalities.

As for the match, the difference in Sable's and Huntress's respective fighting skills may be about negligible, but Sable seems to be better armed and is actually prepped to take Helena on. I think I agree that Sable should win this in a tough battle.
