SPOOKY SEASON SHOWDOWNS: AN ANTHOLOGY

image.jpeg.a232e0db0eb99f857b239a5ec62b49d5.jpeg

Saeko Busujima and Juliet Starling sat inside a black helicopter as it approached a quarantine zone. The two girls had introduced themselves to each other but other than that the conversation was minimal, due in no small part to the whirling blades above them making so much noise. Still, Saeko who sat across from Juliet, couldn't tear her eyes away from the odd sight on the cheerleader’s hip, that of a severed head, alive and blinking.

"So… who’s head is that?" Saeko finally asked, her tone calm but laced with curiosity.

Nick, the head in question, flashed an awkward smile. " Oh, how rude of me. The name is Nick Carlyle. I’m Juliet’s boyfriend. Uh, pleasure to meet you."

Saeko furrowed her brow as she adjusted her katana, the Murata-tou, resting beside her. "Why are you… carrying him like that?"

Juliet glanced down at Nick, her blue eyes bright and unbothered by the bizarre circumstances. "I had to decapitate him to stop him from becoming a zombie. It’s a long story, but I kinda saved him… in a weird way."

Saeko’s raised an eyebrow. "And he’s alive… how?"

Juliet was about to explain when the pilot interrupted. "Brace yourselves. We’re about to land."

The helicopter shook slightly as it began its descent. Juliet, unbothered by the turbulence, turned her head toward Saeko and gave her a quick once-over. "I’ve been meaning to tell you. That is a really cute outfit. Where did you get it from?”

Saeko adjusted her grip on the katana’s handle and looked down at her own attire, a white blouse, green skirt, and purple tie. "It’s just my school uniform. Why do you ask?"

Juliet smiled, a little sheepishly. "I dunno, I had an outfit kinda like it once, although I’m pretty sure I’ve never been to your school."

This response raised more questions in Saeko’s mind but before she could ask a follow up question, the pilot spoke again. "We’re here. Time to disembark."

The helicopter settled down with a final shake and it's doors swung open. Saeko and Juliet stepped out where they were met by a group of men in fancy business suits, standing just beyond the quarantine line. The area was desolate, cordoned off with military-grade fencing, but the men appeared unfazed by their grim surroundings.

One of them, a man with dark brown hair and glasses, stepped forward, his hand extended. "Welcome, ladies."

Saeko stared at him unblinking.. "Where are we?"

Before he could answer, another man with a bald head and a thin, angular face spoke up. "Before we get to that, you need to know why you’re here."

The man with glasses nodded. "We’re movie producers. Given the state of the world and all these zombie outbreaks, we’re interested in telling a story of hope. People need heroes, and that’s where you come in. Your exploits speak for themselves."

"I’m not sure if I’m worthy of that. I’m sure there are… others more deserving," stated Saeko.

The bald man chuckled darkly. "Well, we’re also in the business of making money. And nothing sells a horror movie like a pretty girl protagonist."

Juliet sighed and rested her hands on her hips. "As cool as it would be to have a movie about me, I feel kinda bad about being here when my hometown’s still in trouble…"

The bald man shrugged nonchalantly. "The winner of this little competition we’re setting up will get their family and friends whisked away to safety. Guaranteed. At least through the duration of filming."

"What competition? What winner? What do you mean by that?" asked Juliet.

The man with dark brown hair adjusted his glasses. "Ah, yes. Now we can talk about where you are. You see, we’d love to make a movie about both of you, but the world’s a mess, and we only have the budget for one film. We were unable to choose between the two of you ourselves, so we came up with a solution."

A third man, this one with a red ponytail and a neatly trimmed goatee, spoke up. "We’re standing outside a quarantined school, which has seen a massive zombie outbreak. No government agencies are coming to assist. It’s up to you two to rescue as many survivors as you can, students, teachers, staff. But here’s the twist: it’s a competition."

A thin smile appeared on Saeko’s face. She could feel the thrill building inside her. "A competition… to kill ‘them’? The zombies?"

The man with glasses nodded. "Exactly. The girl who saves the most people and slays the most zombies wins and will be the focus of our feature presentation. We’ll be using drones to catalog your every move, keeping count."

The goateed man leaned in,with a grin. "Plus, it’ll help us get some nice camera angle ideas for the future movie project."

Juliet glanced at her chainsaw. "I don’t know, something feels just a little bit off about all this, but… Nick, what do you think?"

Nick, ever the supportive boyfriend despite being a disembodied head, responded. "Come on, babe! You’re a zombie hunter! You’ve got this."

Juliet smiled and pulled the ripcord on her chainsaw, the roar of the engine a perfect metaphor for the excitement rising inside her. "Alright. Let’s make some zombie purée!"

The man with the goatee raised a finger. "Just to avoid confusion, you’ll be entering from different points. That way, we can give proper credit for each kill."

Saeko readied her katana. "Understood."

The girls turned to face each other, nodding respectfully.

"Good luck," Saeko offered.

Juliet winked. "You too."

Just as they prepared to move out, the man with glasses snapped his fingers. "Oh! One last thing, the waivers. You know, to absolve us from liability should anything go sideways in there. Not that it will, I have all the faith in the world in both of you surviving this day."

Saeko sighed as she signed the document. Juliet followed suit. They then turned their attention to the school building in the distance. The competition/audition was ready to begin.

Good Match! A contest of killing the most zombies.

I'm going with my girl, Saeko Busujima.

Here are videos of her.

Good match-up of, um ... scantily clad teenaged zombie killers, Johnny. :) I haven't seen High School of the Dead or played Lollipop Chainsaw, but you seem to have the characterization of both girls down.

As for the match, it almost seems to be a wash from first glance. Yeah, Saeko's superhumanly athletic, but Juliet's not far off from her in that aspect, given the fact that's she pulls off very athletic moves while wielding a heavier weapon in a chainsaw with a human head attached, as well as having other boosts.

Funnily enough, while I was looking up videos of Juliet in action, I found out that someone already did a head-to-head fight with these girls, with Soulcalibur edits:
