Chapter 39: A Wave of Madness Prt. II

There was a gentle breeze that passed through the surrounding trees. Animals and creatures called into the night while the river continued to move. Lights from the stars shined down upon a woman that sat in front of the river. Her eyes were closed as she sat in deep meditation. Even though she could hear the different creatures in the surrounding woods, the noise did not distract her from her meditation. She felt a connection with them through her meditation. It was a peaceful moment that allowed her to forget the countless conflicts that were in the universe and simply concentrate on this moment of life. In all her years training as the Emperor's Hand, she never thought she would get to feel this kind of peace. Mara Jade felt the Force flowing through the world around her. She let out a gentle and steady breath while feeling one with the living Force.

While in her meditation, she felt a presence approaching. With a gentle smile, the woman with long red hair started to grin. Her eyes were still shut as her hand reach down toward her waist. Wrapping her fingers around the hilt of her lightsaber, the former Emperor's Hand quickly jumped to her feet with a lightning-fast movement. She ignited her fiery purple blade, and it immediately clashed with the fiery emerald blade of the Jedi Master known as Luke Skywalker. Mara Jade's eyes slowly opened, and she peered deep into the eyes of the Jedi. The fiery green blade lit up his face in the dark surroundings as her smile grew wider. Luke, too, began to smile as the two bounced off one another. Their blades clashed once again with a noise that echoed throughout the surrounding forest. With each clashing moment between the lightsabers, that familiar sound grew more and more intense. This moment only fueled the burning passion between the two as they spared under the night sky.

Soon, with a flip over her shoulders, the woman with the long red hair threw her husband on his back. The fiery purple blade of Mara Jadde pointed down at the young Skywalker as he gazed up at his wife. Impressed with her growing skills and her resolve, Luke began to grin. The fiery purple soon faded as Mara Jade placed her lightsaber back on her waist band. She reached out with hand to help her husband to his feet. Luke looked over her soft hand and then reached up to grab it. Mara Jade helped him to his feet while Luke started to wipe away the dust and grass from his clothes. Before he could congratulate his wife on their sparing match, Mara Jade leaned forward and embraced her husband with a passionate kiss. All the tension that Luke felt had faded away as he returned her affections. The two hugged each other under the light of the stars.

"Your skills have improved greatly, Mara." Luke said softly.

"So, have yours." Mara Jada chuckled. "How was your trip to the Outer Rim and the meeting with Dash Rendar?"

"Not as I hoped. Dash ran into some trouble." Luke replied while looking out at the water.

"That would have been expected with a reputation such as Dash Rendar's." Mara quipped.

"He ran into a rogue archeologist. They clashed against one another. Both escaped alive but the Wayfinder was destroyed in the temple."
 Luke replied.

"I'm sorry, Luke. I knew you were hoping to get it before it was lost." Mara Jada said warmly.

"At least it did not fall into enemy hands." Luke said optimistically. "We have to trust in the Force."

"What now?" Mara Jade asked.

Luke sighed for a moment before glancing back at his wife. "I need you to accompany Leia to Coruscant. She is going to meet with the rest of the Galactic senate regarding the recent events in the galaxy. The leader of Mandalore is also set to attend the meeting. Leia said that there were rumors that Bo-Katan was hoping to become a formal ally to the New Republic."

"That is surprising, but I thought you did not want to the Jedi to become overly involved in the political affairs of the galaxy." Mara Jade responded with a bewildered look.

"That is a stance that the Jedi will live by. I want you there to protect my sister." Luke replied while dropping his head. "I sense a darkness moving in the Force."

"What are you going to do?" Mara Jade asked.

"I am going to search out this darkness and see what is causing this disturbance." Luke replied.

"Don't worry, Luke." Mara Jade said with a gentle smile. "I will look after your sister."

Once dawn arrived, Mara Jade made preparations to meet with Leia. After arriving at the spaceport, the former Emperor's Hand stood up from her seat and sauntered toward the door of the ship. She could see Leia in the distance surrounded by several other people. Mara Jade started walking out of the ship and was immediately greeted by the shining gold-plated protocol droid known as C-3PO. The Jedi grinned while returning the greetings to droid that had witnessed so many of the galaxy's historical events. She walked alongside 3PO while they headed to meet with Leia. Several New Republic officers were gathering gear and equipment to load onto their ships. Mara Jade stood back and waited patiently while Leia continued to coordinate between the New Republic pilots. Even if she did not have her connection with the Force, Mara Jade could feel the urgency that was among the different pilots. Leia's eyes soon shifted and caught sight of the red-haired Jedi. Leia smiled and nodded which signified that it would not be much longer. Soon Leia broke away from her delegating to greet her sister-in-law.

"I am sorry, Mara Jade. We received word that there were remnants of an Imperial Destroyer on the Outer Rim. After everything, we had to act quickly and get some pilots out there." Leia said with a tired look.

"It's okay, Leia. I know the burdens that you carry are far greater than most could even comprehend." Mara Jade replied.

"I am ready, if you are." Leia said gently.

"Let's go to this meeting." Mara Jade said with a frown.

"You don't sound too enthusiastic." Leia said with a smile.

"I am not one for meetings." Mara Jade replied while following Leia to her ship.

"Honestly, I am not either. I would much rather be on the frontlines then with a bunch of governors and senators talking about money." Leia replied.

"At least from what Luke said, Mandalore might be joining the New Republic." Mara Jade said with a spark of optimism.

"That is the hope." Leia said with a smile.

The two women loaded onto the ship and headed for Coruscant. Flying through hyperspace, the journey was smooth for the most part. Leia continued to have several meetings with New Republic generals and commanders, while 3PO powered off for a majority of the trip. Mara Jara sauntered to an empty room on the ship and sat down in meditation. With her eyes closed tight, she found herself drifting into the Force. In her meditation, she remembered her days with the Empire and the training that she received from Palpatine himself. All the horrible things that she had done in the name of the Empire had come to haunt her. Despite her memories of the Empire and the dark past, Luke reassured her that no one was ever too far gone. The Jedi Master could see the light and the goodness in the former Emperor's Hand. Even with her attempts to kill the young Skywalker, he led her to a place of redemption. Now, the red-headed Jedi sat in meditation while accompanying his sister to Coruscant. In her meditation, she sensed a disturbance.

Once the ship arrived on Coruscant, the two ladies followed a group of political advisors toward the Senate building. It took a while for Mara's eyes to adjust to the multitude of galactic leaders that were meeting in the Senate building. There were species from all walks of life there in that moment. As her eyes moved around the vastness of the building, she felt something in the pit of her stomach. She felt as if the Force was warning her of a danger lurking in the shadows. With urgency, Mara Jade's eyes continued to look throughout the senate building. Before she could warn Leia, they heard deafening sound ripping throughout the building. Fires and lightning shot out from all around. Mara Jade heard a Mandalorian jetpack igniting as she ran to get Leia to safety.

Meanwhile,

After a short battle, Bo-Katan felt every muscle in body throbbing in pain. With her jetpack and blasters damaged, she rolled around to face her enemy. The female witch with long, curly black hair started walking closer toward her. A deranged smile was plastered across her cheeks as she looked over the Mandalorian leader. Bo-Katan tried crawling away from the witch, but her body was far too injured to move much faster. Despite the pain that she was feeling, Bo-Katan lifted her arm and shot her flamethrower at the sadistic witch. With a quick movement, Bellatrix cast a transfiguration spell onto the flames and turned them into a venomous snake. The deadly serpents turned their attention toward the leader of Mandalore. With what she had just witnessed, Bo-Katan's eyes widened in disbelief. With what strength that she had left, Bo-Katan took out a vibro-blade and sliced off the head of the snake. Bo-Katan then head the howling laughter of the psychotic witch. Bo-Katan hissed while pushing herself to her feet.

"What are you laughing at witch?" Bo-Katan growled before trying to charge at the witch.

"Avada kedavra!" Bellatrix screamed as a bright green light spewed out of her wand.

The light-struck Bo-Katan in the chest which caused her cold, lifeless body to slump back onto the floor. Bellatrix skipped toward the remains of the Mandalorian leader and gazed at her body in delight. She then heard a sound from behind and quickly turned her attention toward the source of the sound. Standing on the edge of the Senate chamber, a red-headed female glared down at the witch. This red-headed female held what appeared to be a fiery purple blade in her hand. She pointed it down at Bellatrix.

"Surrender now or die." Mara Jade called out.

Sensing that there was power within this red-headed stranger, the Death Eater grinned and said "Finally, a worthy opponent."
