Elijah sat in his chair at an ornate desk.  Torches lit the walls of his chambers that had been set up in the catacombs beneath a burned-out mansion.  Before him sat the former Death Dealer Selene, her face stern as her fellow vampire poured himself a glass of wine.

“Some of the coven believed that you hadn’t survived the Machine takeover.  But I knew that a Death Dealer with your reputation had enough resolve to survive the end of the world.”

He offered a second glass to Selene, but she continued to deliver her piercing glare.

“And you had enough cowardice to hide from the end of the world.”

Elijah took a sip from his glass and shrugged.  “I didn’t ask for leadership, Selene.  All of our leaders had been killed, the covens had been decimated.  They needed someone to guide them, to protect them from the Machines.  I stepped forward.”

“Enough,” interrupted Selene.  “Why don’t you tell me what it is you actually want?  Otherwise, I will take my chances above.”

Nodding in approval Elijah rose from his seat with his wine and motioned for Selene to follow.  They exited his chamber into the passageways of the catacombs.  Other vampires, some in the remnants of fine clothes, watched as they passed by.  But some laid out on the ground, too far gone from a lack of blood to notice anything.

“The coven predicted that the humans’ toys would rise against them,” said Elijah, glancing at lady vampire using a damp cloth to cool her declining husband’s forehead.  “The Lycans tried to fight and only succeeded in getting themselves killed.  And many of vampires that initially escaped were caught by the Sentinels above.  As for the humans they were almost all taken prisoner and used to power the Machines.  But in the early days we heard rumors of a human stronghold.  A city…”

“Called Zion,” Selene said coldly.  “I’ve spent years searching for it.”

“At the cost of your lover’s life?”

Elijah saw Selene’s tough exterior flinch for a moment before he went on.  “But we have managed to find a way to locate Zion.  Once we find the humans, we will be able to have enough blood to feed our people.”

“And how are you going to find Zion?” asked Selene.  “Find a human and ask politely?”

Elijah smirked as he approached an oak door.  “Something like that.”

The door opened to reveal a room filled with technology.  In the center was a chair with wires posed over the headrest.

“The Machines have created a virtual reality to contain the humans in order to drain them of their energy.  It is called ‘The Matrix’.  The humans live in it without even realizing that they are trapped in a cybernetic cage.”

Elijah nodded to another vampire monitoring a computer.  The vampire pressed a few keys and pulled up an image on the screen of a woman wearing an outfit similar to Selene’s.

“This human goes by the name ‘Trinity’.  She’s been pursued by the law enforcement of the Matrix, made up of humans and the Machine’s own defenses.  We believe that she may have information about Zion and is trying to build a resistance in the Matrix itself.”

“And you want me to find this Trinity?” asked Selene.

“We have already used this device to connect volunteers to the Matrix.  However, despite it being a computer-generated fantasy, the Matrix is still a dangerous place for our kind.  The light in the simulation still burns us, and some of our volunteers were unable to return to consciousness.”

“So you need someone who can survive the procedure?”

“And who better than one of the few vampires still breathing who possesses the blood of Corvinus?  You should be able to move about in the simulation freely and should be strong enough to deal with Trinity if she is… unwilling to reveal her information.”

Selene observed Trinity’s image on the screen.  “What do I need to know about her?”

“We are unsure, but it appears that she possesses impressive fighting skills and strength, perhaps matching a vampire’s.  But we are able to provide you with whatever weapons you need within the simulation.”

There was a moment of silence as Selene gazed at the chair.  She turned back to Elijah.  “I will find this Trinity.  I will make her tell me where Zion is hidden.  In return, you call off your hunt.  My crimes are expunged, and I am allowed back into the coven.”

Elijah locked eyes with Selene, not pleased with her demands.  “I suppose when the alternative is the extinction of our species, I don’t have many options left, do I?”

“No.”

Selene marched to the chair and two vampire technicians strapped her in.  “If you are in need to be recalled, go to a phone booth,” said Elijah.  “That’s where we will be able to get you out of there.”

“Understood.”

The wires above the headrest started to move, positioning themselves above Selene’s head.  Elijah folded his arms as Selene closed her eyes and took a deep breath.  The wires plunged into her skull and Selene let out a gasp of pain.  Her eyes grew wide as she gazed up at the fluorescent lighting of the chamber, only for it to fade away in a stream of green code.

OK:

Selene (Post Evolution)

Trinity (The Matrix)

Both can call on their arsenals for weaponry.

Last combatant standing wins.

Game On!

Trinity feels strong compared to normal humans, but compared to Underworld Vampires she is on the lower scale of things. Selene has this, especially since bullets will hurt Trinity way more than they will hurt Selene.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The rain poured down on Trinity as she struggled to rise to her feet.  Selene marched down the alley towards her and loaded a fresh clip into her Beretta.

“You have fought well,” she said.  “But it is pointless to resist further.”

“I’ll never stop fighting,” Trinity coughed.  “I’d rather die than live in a world controlled by you.”

“I assure you, I’m not one of the Machines.  You are trying to preserve your race, and so am I.  The only way for us to retake this world is if you tell me the location of Zion.”

Trinity steadied herself and glared at Selene.  We will retake the world.  From the Machines, and you.”

Trinity leapt into the air and time seemed to slow down around her.  She went into a flying kick, but Selene unexpectedly bent backwards to dodge out of the way.  Trinity landed on her feet behind Selene, but the vampire quickly spun around and fired her Beretta.  Trinity cried out in pain and fell to the pavement.

Selene quickly walked to her side and knelt next to her.  She turned Trinity on to her back to look into her eyes.  “No, you won’t die tonight,” said Selene.  “You may not tell me where Zion is, but you will lead us to it.”

Selene bared her fangs and brought them down onto Trinity’s neck.

On the Nebuchadnezzar Trinity thrashed in the chair where she was connected into the Matrix.  Morpheus rushed to her side.  “Apoc!  Switch!  Shut everything down!  She’s seizing up!”  Wires fell away from Trinity’s skull as Morpheus quickly unlocked the bonds that held Trinity in the chair.  Her eyes remained closed as she grimaced and gasped in pain until finally she fell still.

Morpheus gently touched Trinity’s face.  “Trinity?  Trinity, can you hear me?”

Trinity slowly opened her eyes.  She seemed calmer and more focused than Morpheus had ever seen her before.

“Trinity, what happened in th…”

Morpheus was interrupted by Trinity delivering a kick to his chest.  He slammed into the hull of the Nebuchadnezzar and collapsed to the grated floor.  He looked up in confusion and shock to see Trinity rise from the chair.  Now he could see the two bite marks on her neck, and the fangs that poked out from her mouth.

“Don’t worry, Morpheus,” Trinity hissed.  “We’re still going to save the world.  But not for humanity.  But we are going to need to go back to Zion.  And I will need your… assistance.  Welcome to the new reality.”
