The underground fight club was an arena filled with gamblers, vagrants, and patrons hungry for blood sport. In the murky fog beneath neon lights, the raucous crowd waited for the night’s main event. Tonight, two undefeated relative new comers to the cage were set for the marquee. Both of the competitors were humanoid tigers, one a zoanthrope and the other something else completely.  In two opposing locker rooms, each fighter prepared alone with his thoughts.

In the left locker room, Shenlong the Tiger sat on a metal bench. He rested his arms on his knees as he stared at the ground. Memories of the fall of the Zoanthrope Liberation Front and his short-lived rise to power flashed through his mind. What a precipitous fall he had experienced since then, from head of a powerful organization to an exploited prize fighter. What haunted him the most though was the recent revelation that he was a clone of the zoanthrope, Long, created by ZLF scientist, Busuzima. Everything he had thought about himself was a lie and it damaged his confidence and feeling of self worth. At one time he had felt like a force of nature bound for greatness, yet now he only took pride in pummeling his opponents in this underground venue. An avenue for him to take out all his pent up anger and frustration over his own existence.

“Damn them all,” he muttered to himself.

The whispers about his next challenger stirred curiosity within Shenlong. His opponent had the appearance of a zoanthrope, but never transformed. There was even talk that he was an alien. But as always, Shenlong’s purpose remained single-minded. Tonight would be no different. Whoever stepped in that cage with him tonight was going be on the receiving end of a brutal beatdown.

In the opposite locker room, Byakko sat silently with his eyes closed. Since his battle with Bilstein, his life had taken an unexpected turn. The Union, the organization that created Byakko along with the other Four Saint Beasts to defeat the dastardly villain, Bilstein, had turned their back on him. They now feared Byakko, thinking he was too powerful, dangerous, and volatile. Due to his impressive showing against Bilstein, the Union now thought Byakko a threat to the galaxy’s balance. In fact, it was due to his fleeing the Union’s pursuit that  he ended up stranded on the backwater world he now inhabited. In truth, Byakko was a very skilled fighter, and though he was now hunted for that reason, he felt no bitterness because of it. It was the natural order of things, power attracted fear.

A fight club was not Byakko’s idea for an ideal environment, but it provided a safe haven from galactic hunters, and, at least for now, a steady income in this strange world. Byakko exhaled. He heard the faint murmur of the crowd beyond the walls. They cheered for brutality and savagery, yet he intended to give them a display of precision and control. He bore no grudge against this next opponent. no rage to vent. He would simply be a new challenge to defeat.

The  sound of the announcer's voice crackling through the speakers silenced the crowd’s raucous chatter.

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight’s main event!”

The announcement set off another round of wild cheers of anticipation.

“First, I present to you a zoanthrope that has shredded all competition, Shenlong!”

Shenlong walked out to a thunderous roar. He entered the cage and clenched his fists. His gaze focused on the opposing entrance.

“And his opponent, from parts unknown let's hear it for the undefeated Byakko!”

The crowd buzzed as Byakko appeared. His eyes met Shenlong’s. They were filled with a quiet confidence that shot out across the cage. Shenlong then took note of his opponent’s plasma claws. They were long, sharp, and Shenlong was already wary of them. But, Shenlong remained steadfast in his belief that he would win. No way was this mystery freak as skilled as him.

“I have to know, are you or are you not a zoanthrope?”

“You mistake me for something else,” Byakko replied, “I am only a skilled ninja warrior.”

Shenlong scoffed. “Yeah right. Where are you from?”

“Like a whirlwind I come from the darkness, and when it is done I will disappear into the darkness once again,” answered Byakko.

“You are irritating, I’m going to enjoy tearing you apart!” Shenlong threatened.

“You rage like a storm, but the storm will not uproot the mountain.”

“Let’s fight!”

looking at game play Shenlong is a lot faster. But those plasma claws are dangerous. Shenlong will get some licks in but I'll vote for Byakko. All he needs is one good shot. Shenlong has no way to block those plasma claws.
