Match 21031 Sakura Hagiwara vs. Candy Cane

The camera displays a wide shot of the Tokyo Dome. Before a word is uttered, a video package is played for the audience watching from home. The wrestler, Candy Cane, sits on an empty music stage.

CANDY CANE: A friendly nun took me into an orphanage. I've come a long way since that time... But it's the only place that ever mattered to me. Now it's broke and about to be closed down. I'm gonna win this CBUB Women’s World Championship and use the fame to raise money for the place. I'll use whatever dirty trick I have to. I've already thrown everything away to get this far.

The scene switches over to the Japanese Pop Idol group, Sweet Diva. Sakura Hagiwara is being pumped up by Elena Miyazawa and Yuho Mochiduki.

ELENA MIYAZAWA: Go ahead and win this match, Sakura. Who knows, maybe we will end up squaring off in one of the later rounds.

SAKURA HAGIWARA: That would be great.

YUHO MOCHIDUKI: I want you to do well in this tournament, Sakura. Just promise me that no matter what happens you won’t leave Sweet Diva for good. We need you.

SAKURA: It’s a deal. It’s time to get ready.

The camera transitions to inside the Tokyo Dome. The lights dim and spotlights swing toward an announce table where R. Mika and Yamato Nadeshiko stand, ready to greet viewers from around the world.

R. MIKA: Hello, wrestling fans! Welcome to the Tokyo Dome! I'm R. Mika, and I'm so excited to be here! We have fans tuning in from every corner of the world for this match, a first round matchup for the CBUBCW Women’s World Heavyweight Championship and I know they're in for a real treat! Before we go any further I just want to thank the commissioners, Harley Quinn and Callisto, for allowing me and my broadcast partner the opportunity to do special guest commentary. Speaking of which let me introduce you to my partner for the evening, my former tag team partner in the ring, Yamato Nadeshiko.

NADESHIKO: Thanks, Rainbow. And you’re right tonight is a special night as we kick off this second first-round match in the Women's Championship Tournament! This isn’t just any match, we’re about to witness an intense showdown between two fierce competitors, Sakura Hagiwara and Candy Cane!

R. MIKA: I never get the opportunity to watch much female wrestling outside of Inwashigahama Japan Women's Pro Wrestling! I am totally stoked!

NADESHIKO: Maybe you’d have more time to watch matches like this if you weren’t so busy working for Karin Kanzuki.

R. MIKA: She agreed to sponsor me, I can’t turn her down. Also, thanks to Karin, I got the chance to watch the match between Tina Armstrong and Dixie Clemets live from the Gold Saucer on her satellite! And let me tell you, those two women were something special. Congratulations to Tina on her big win!

NADESHIKO: She is definitely one to watch. Who knows, Mika? You might be facing her yourself soon in this tournament.

R. MIKA: The chance to compete against her? Oh, I can’t wait.

NADESHIKO: But first things first. Fans, you’re in for another first-round matchup that’s bound to blow your mind.

Suddenly, loud, rebellious guitar riffs pulse through the arena, and Candy Cane's entrance music hits. Candy Cane with her red guitar appears on the entrance stage. She strums the chords as she walks down the aisle.

NADESHIKO: And here she is, the punk rock princess herself, Candy Cane! Known for her no-nonsense attitude, she’s a rebellious spirit and has been shaking up the Rumble Roses scene for a while now. 

 

 

R. MIKA: Candy Cane might not have the muscle definition of some wrestlers, but I think anyone would be mistaken to underestimate her because of it. The girl has got grit I can tell.

Candy Cane smashes her guitar on the entrance way and pushes down a nearby cameraman.

R. MIKA: Definitely not the friendliest wrestler.

NADESHIKO: I kinda like her.

Candy Cane enters the ring and plays to the crowd.

NADESHIKO: And now, coming down to the ring, we have her opponent! Please welcome…Sakura Hagiwara!

The lights change, casting a pink and purple glow over the entrance as an upbeat pop anthem echoes through the arena. Sakura Hagiwara appears, waving to the crowd with a cheerful smile.

NADESHIKO: Sakura Hagiwara, a pop idol from the group Sweet Diva. She turned her attention to wrestling when one of her bandmates got mixed up in it and hasn’t looked back. Despite losing her first 65 matches, Sakura never gave up. She trained hard at the Berzerk Gym and got better and better each day, each match, and now she is here. 

R. MIKA: I love it. What a great story of determination and passion for wrestling. When this is over I should introduce her to master Zangief, I am sure he would help stoke the fire inside her even more.

YAMATO: Let’s see how she handles this challenge from Candy Cane tonight, first. That’ll tell us everything.

As Sakura steps into the ring, her attention shifts from the fans to Candy Cane. Her expression is one of resolve as the two women lock eyes. 

R. MIKA: It’s so cool that the fans stuck with Sakura, even through her losing streak.

NADESHIKO: Well, that’s all in the past now and I have a feeling they weren’t all watching her then for her wrestling prowess.

R. MIKA: What do you mean?

NADESHIIKO: We can talk about it later. Right now, we have a match to get to. This is it! Punk rock vs. pop idol. Who is going to come out on top?
