Within Thanos’ throne room, The Mad Titan paced in front of the Black Order, who stood in obedient formation. Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Black Dwarf, Ebony Maw, and Supergiant all looked upon him expectantly.

“You have served me well,” Thanos began, “But the multiverse contains treasures far beyond the comprehension of lesser beings. These artifacts, scattered across dimensions, hold the key to a power that will eclipse even the Infinity Stones. We shall claim them all.”

The Black Order stood in silence with dutiful attentiveness. Thanos’ words were as much a sermon as command. He raised his hands as if he were preaching to the stars themselves.

“With all of them in my possesion, I shall ascend to power unimaginable. No being, no pantheon, no law shall stand before me!”

He stopped abruptly and fixed his gaze upon Ebony Maw, the strategic Whisperer whose power of persuasion could even indoctrinate the likes of Dr. Strange. Next to Thanos, a portal shimmered to life, revealing the dark, twisting caverns of the Underdark.

“We will add the beings known as Mindflayers to our ranks. Ebony Maw, go forth and bend the Illithids to my will. Their psionic power will be a fine addition to my arsenal.”

The Maw looked to his leader and his serpentine voice oozed confidence. “It shall be done, my master.”

Ebony Maw stepped through the portal. His sinister silhouette was swallowed by the eerie glow.

Another portal burst into existence, this one revealed a galaxy far, far away.

“Corvus Glaive,” Thanos continued, “Retrieve a lightsaber of the Sith. But be wary of their cunning and ferocity.”

Corvus’ lips curled into a smirk as he raised his glaive. “As long as this weapon remains in my hands, I cannot die. I shall not fail.”

Corvus marched forward and disappeared into the swirling energy.

Then, a third portal opened, it flickered red and pulsated with fiery rage as it showed the planet Ysmault from a distance.

Thanos turned to Proxima Midnight. “Proxima, the Red Lanterns are beings consumed by rage, their rings powered by the very essence of their fury. Your task is to bring me one of these rings. They are among the most volatile weapons in the multiverse. Do not underestimate them.”

“I do not underestimate my enemies, my lord,” Proxima replied with a bow. “I will return victorious.”

She strode through the portal while Supergiant and Black Dwarf awaited their own assignments in silence.

A few days later on a planet far from Ysmault, a Sinestro Corps member groaned in pain as the second in command of the Red Lanterns, Bleez, loomed over him. Her red-ring-fueled projection held him in place.

“You thought you could hide,” Bleez hissed.

She stretched out her bony wings wide and cast a shadow over his writhing body.

“But your kind cannot escape the justice of a Red Lantern. You made me this, turned me into a monster, and now you will suffer for it!”

The Sinestro Corps member tried to summon his yellow constructs, but his willpower faltered beneath Bleez’s relentless onslaught. With a scream of rage, she hurled him to the ground and unleashed a torrent of volatile red plasma. The ground beneath him melted as the searing energy produced by her consumed him.

Bleez floated above the smoldering crater. Her mind briefly flashed to the memory of her old life, the beauty she once had, the dignity the Sinestro Corps had stolen from her.

“My rage will never die,” she remarked bitterly. “It is the only thing keeping me alive.”

A slow clap echoed through the air, and Bleez twirled around to see Proxima Midnight approaching her. Proxima’s spear rested casually on her shoulder.

“Impressive,” she said with a tome of mockery. “A little... unfocused, but impressive nonetheless.”

Bleez glared at this strange unknown intruder. “Who are you, and why should I care?”

“I am Proxima Midnight of the Black Order. I’ve come for your ring.”

“What gives you the confidence to even attempt such a thing?”

“More a matter of necessity, the other Red Lanterns I have come across so far lack the mental capacity to be of any use.” Proxima swung her spear. “You see, after I rip that thing from your finger I am going to force you to tell me all about it,”

Bleez laughed bitterly. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. If you take this ring from me, I die. It is literally my heart.”

Proxima shrugged. “Interesting. But I suspect someone else in your... colorful group of lanterns will suffice for providing me the information I seek.”

Bleez’s rage flared. “You think you can just show up and kill me to satisfy your curiosity? You must be working for one of the other Corps.”

Proxima chuckled. “Hardly. Your rainbow squabbles bore me. My allegiance lies with a power far greater.”

Bleez snarled. “You’ve wasted enough of my time. Let’s see if you can back up that arrogance.”

Proxima responded with a predatory smile. She lowered her spear into a combat stance.

“I was hoping you’d say that.”
