The sky above Republic City was an ominous swirl of dark clouds and pounding rain. The streets were slick with water. Reports had flooded in about a mysterious figure manipulating water in a way not seen before, leaving chaos in his wake. The Metalbending Police Force was on high alert. Their patrols swept the city for signs of the disturbance.

Rain, the Edenian prince and a demigod aligned with the power of water, walked through the city with his hood drawn low over his face. He had been transported to this unfamiliar world after an unstable portal opened during a conflict in Outworld between Liu Kang and Shao Kahn. Now stranded in an unfamiliar realm that he initially mistook for the Earthrealm he knew, Rain sought to assert his dominance. He viewed his temporary stay in this new realm as an opportunity to prove his superiority. His manipulation of water caused disturbances that quickly drew the attention of Republic City’s protectors.

It drew the attention of the Equalists. Its enigmatic leader, Amon, observed this new chaos with interest. To him, Rain’s abilities represented another form of bending, a dangerous power that needed to be eradicated. Seeing an opportunity to further the mission of balance, Amon decided to confront the newcomer personally.

The masked Amon encountered the interdimensional interloper in the city’s industrial district, where massive water reservoirs and pipelines crisscrossed the area. The mysterious man in purple stood atop a water tower. his violet eyes glowed faintly as he directed torrents of water to flood the streets below. Citizens scattered in panic; their cries echoed through the downpour.

"You, with your unchecked power, have no place here," Amon declared. "This city has suffered enough at the hands of benders. You will not add to their suffering."

Rain turned slowly. "And who are you to challenge me? I am Rain, a demigod of Edenia. Your city’s past troubles are of no concern to me. If they seek salvation they will bow to me."

"Your arrogance blinds you," Amon replied. "You may think yourself a demigod, but from my vantage point, you are just another bender. And like all benders, you will be brought to justice."

Rain laughed. "Justice? You’re bold to speak of justice to someone who could drown this entire city if I so choose."

With a sweeping gesture, Rain summoned a massive wave from the flooded streets below. He sent it hurtling toward Amon. But the Equalist leader stood firm and raised his hands. The wave froze mid-air, suspended by his mastery of waterbending. With a flick of his wrist, Amon redirected the water and dispersed it harmlessly.

"Your power is impressive," Amon admitted. He stepped forward. "But it’s reckless. And recklessness is a weakness."

Rain raised his hands and summoned razor-sharp water blades that hovered around him. "Weakness? Let’s see if you can back up your petty insults. If you wish to challenge me to combat, so be it. Follow me."

Amon followed Rain to the heart of the industrial district.  The labyrinth of pipes and reservoirs created a battlefield rich with water sources. Rain and Amon faced each other on a narrow catwalk suspended above a massive water treatment facility. The air cracked with tension as the rain continued to pour. The elements were perfect for their impending clash.

Rain struck first. He unleashed a barrage of water blades that sliced through the air. Amon countered with fluid movements and bent the water around him to form protective barriers. He advanced closer to Rain.

"Is this all the might of a demigod?" Amon taunted. "You rely on your power, but you lack discipline."

Rain sneered; his pride was wounded. He slammed his foot onto the catwalk and sent a surge of water upward to engulf Amon. But Amon countered with a swift gesture. The water bent into a spiraling vortex that dissipated into harmless droplets.

As the fight intensified, Amon extended his hand, and Rain froze mid-motion. An invisible force gripped his body. He had been introduced to Amon’s bloodbending. Rain struggled as his muscles locked against his will. Amon stepped closer until his masked face mere inches from Rain’s.

"You see now? Your power means nothing," Amon said coldly. "You are as vulnerable as any other bender."

Rain’s eyes burned with fury. He summoned his inner strength and the water beneath the catwalk surged upward in a massive column. It broke Amon’s concentration and freed Rain from his grip. Rain immediately knocked Amon back with a side kick and used his water abilities to create a blade on his hand.

Rain pointed at Amon. His voice echoed with defiance. "You may have your tricks, but I am Rain. I am a prince and a god. My powers can’t be so easily tampered."

Amon’s reply was simple and resolute: "Then let’s finish this."

Good set-up, Johnny, and good Match debut for Amon and Rain. One thing, though: one of the reasons why Amon became popular among non-benders is because he kept his bending a secret to the world. He'd never do all-out bending in public and instead use it more subtly, such as using his bloodbending to slightly misdirect other benders' aim to make himself look like he's flawlessly dodging all their attacks. He'd just pass off removing others' bending abilities as a gift given to him by the spirits.

Anyways, as for the match, Amon's pretty powerful, but I have a feeling Rain's gonna be a little too much for him.

Thanks, as always for the feedback, always appreciated. Fair points about Amon perhaps being a little OOC. I am not overly familiar with the Avatar universe, but I do know that him being revealed as a waterbender by Korra after being so publicly anti-bending was a big deal.  I could have made it more obvious that in my mind they are alone. I had him show off a little to display his powers, both bloodbending and waterbending. I've always thought it helpful to do that for people unfamiliar with the characters, but they may not engage with match either way.

I'd have to go with Rain. Really this this would be a great battle. I love both these dudes.

And I love that new picture for Rain. I don't like his latest design. I haven't like any of his designs since the reboot days.

So, I don't have much knowledge on Mortal Kombat. I only know of the characters from Korra. If I have to guess, I say that Amon would win.

Canon wise Rain is actually a pretty weak fighter, like every time he was a canon one on one fight he always loses. Not one canon win as far as I’m aware.

Amon meanwhile was a very terrifying and legit threat who up until the S1 finale seemed all but unbeatable. So I’m tempted to vote Amon here.
