On the banks of the Amazon River there was a collection of hastily constructed tents set up in a circle.  Men in camo gear and sporting assault rifles milled around the camp, occasionally glancing at the largest of the tents.  At it’s entrance were two bald African women in red uniforms.  They both carried spears and glared at the men as they passed them by.

Inside the tent, Okoye sat on a crate in front of wooden desk that seemed out of place in the jungle.  Behind the desk in an armchair and flanked by two guards was a Hispanic man sporting a black beard and mustache.  He poured a glass of wine and offered it to Okoye.

“Please, feel free, señora.  We acquired this wine in our last attack on the capital.”

Okoye remained still, her eyes not breaking contact with the man.  He shrugged and gulped down the wine himself.

“I am not here to drink, Señor Valdez.”

“Ah ah ah!  General, señora.  General Valdez.”

Okoye fought the urge to break Valdez’s arm and continued.

“I am here to reclaim what your people stole from Wakanda.”

Valdez’s guards tightened their grips on their rifles.  “I’m sorry, señora,” said Valdez.  “But I have never been to this… Wakanda you speak of.”

“We know about the mercenaries you paid to steal a shipment of Vibranium.  The trail led us to this camp.  You will return the vibranium now.”

Valdez smirked and got up from his chair.  “Señora, I assure you that if I have come into possession of vibranium, it was not meant as an insult to you or your people.  You have seen my men.  They are ready to fight, to die for our glorious cause.  But the capital is well defended.  Many men, many guns.  If I wish to bring peace to my country, I must have better weapons.  Weapons powered with your vibranium that could end this… terrible bloodshed in a matter of weeks.  If you would allow me to keep the vibranium, when I have capital I could speak with your king and we could arrange a…”

“MY king,” interrupted Okoye.  “Instructed me to bring back what was stolen.  What happens in your country is your concern.  You have a piece of our country.  And we will have it back or I will order this camp burned to the ground.”

There was a tense silence in the tent, then Valdez chuckled and turned to his guards.  “Esta mujer tiene fuego, no?  Alright, señor.  There is no need for violence.  I will let you have your vibranium.”

Okoye remained seated as Valdez motioned his guards out from behind his desk.  He walked to a footlocker and opened it, pulling out a leather pouch.  Okoye could see the purplish glow from within it.  She rose from her seat and Valdez tossed the pouch to her.  The Dora Milaje general grabbed the pouch before it hit the desk.  She opened it and peeked inside, then quickly looked up to Valdez who had his back to her.

“Your people stole a whole chest of vibranium.  Where is the rest of it?”

Okoye heard the sound Valdez’s guards’ rifles being cocked behind her.  Valdez carefully lifted a pistol out of the locker and tried his best to hide it with his body.

“Oh, don’t worry, señora.  Your Vibranium is buried in a safe place.  As you will be.”

Valdez spun around with his pistol at the ready but Okoye had already extended her spear to knock it from his grip.  She twirled her weapon expertly and delivered strikes to both of his guards.

“YIBAMBE!” Okoye shouted.

The Dora Milaje at the entrance to the tent pounded on the ground with their spears and echoed the call.

“YIBAMBE!”

Before the revolutionaries realized what was happening, 17 more members of the Dora Milaje burst out of the rain forest into the camp.  The clearing was filled with the sounds of Wakandan battle cries, gunfire, and the ringing of vibranium spears as they swung through the air into their victims.

Valdez bolted out of his tent as Okoye finished off the guards.  He dodged a Dora Milaje spear and shouted to one of his followers.

“Hector!  Get to the boat!  Hector, ràpido!”

Hector scrambled toward the riverbank where five boats with outboard motors were moored.  He cranked the engine of one of the boats as Valdez leapt into the front.

“Further down river!  Quickly, you fool!”

Okoye stormed out of the tent and wiped the blood off the tip of her spear.  Ayo stood to attention and raised her fist to her chest in salute.  “The enemy have been defeated, general.”

Okoye narrowed her gaze on Valdez boat speeding away.  “And Valdez is escaping.  Ayo, you are with me.  Choose 4 to join us and take the remaining boats to pursue him.  The rest of you!  Follow along the shore.  Take Valdez alive.  He is the only one left who knows where the vibranium is hidden.  Move!”

Several miles down the river, the engine on Valdez’s boat began to sputter.  Muttering curses he motioned to Hector to guided the boat to the riverbank.  “See what is wrong with it, estùpido!  Those crazy women will soon be on us!”

“Sì, general!”

Valdez jumped off the boat into the shallows and stomped through the water to the shore.  He drew his pistol and glanced at the dense jungle before him.  He was so focused in listening for any sign of the Dora Milaje he failed to realize how quiet this part of the rain forest was.  No bird cry, no animal screeching.  Just a tense silence.

A silence interrupted by a gurgling gasp from Hector.  Valdez spun around to see Hector fall into the river with an arrow lodged in his throat.

“Hector!”

Valdez took one step forward, then froze when he felt the edge of a sword pressed against his neck.  He looked to his left to see a tall, muscular woman with long, tattered hair.  Her outfit was made of leather and would have been considered attractive to the general, had not the woman wearing it looked ready to cut him to ribbons.

More women in similar attire emerged from the jungle, armed with swords, axes, bows and arrows.  They all stared with disgust at Valdez who allowed himself to be turned by his captor’s blade.

“Why have you come here?” the Amazon hissed.

“Señora… er… Señoras, I don’t mean you any harm!  I was just passing through your… lovely forest when my boat broke down and I…”

“Silence!  It is bad enough that men forced our foremothers to leave our homeland.  Must you intrude on the home we’ve built for ourselves now?”

“Enough talk, Deianira!” called one of axe wielding Amazons.  “Cut his throat and let the river take him to the sea.”

“So be it.”

Deianira kicked Valdez legs out from under him.  He fell to shore and held up his hands in panic.  “Por favor!  Por favor, señora!  I beg you!”

Deianira raised her sword and brought swiftly down towards Valdez skull.  The strike was blocked by a Dora Milaje spear that embedded itself in a nearby tree.  The Amazons looked to see members of Wakanda’s honor guard marching out of the jungle, as Okoye and Ayo rode their boat to the shore.

“Stand down and put up your weapons!” shouted Okoye.  “That man is a prisoner of Wakanda!”

“Your prisoner is guilty of trespassing on the kingdom of the Amazons!” snapped Deianira.  “The penalty for that is death!”

Okoye glanced at the other Amazons as they tightened their grip on their weapons.  “I assure you, Valdez will pay for all of his crimes.  But not before he comes with us.”

Deianira shouldered her sword, and with her free hand yanked the spear loose from the tree.  She tossed it aside and held her sword at the ready.  “You wish to fight for this man?  Then the Amazons will give you the death you seek.”

Okoye nodded and shouted one word.

“YIBAMBE!”

OK:

20 Dora Milaje vs 20 Amazons.

Dora Milaje armed with spears, Amazons armed with swords, axes, bows and arrows.

Last team standing wins.
