Chapter 51: Hunter Ground Phase Two Prt. 2

While others had their eyes glued to the screens to see any updates on what was happening in London, Steve Rodgers had other intentions. He was not going to sit back and wait to hear what was happening. The super-soldier was going to act. He was going to help the people in need. After hearing about the arrival of the titans in London, Captain America had rushed to get his gear ready. He knew all too well that people would be in immediate danger. In his mind, being an Avenger was more than simply fighting against a powerful enemy or a tyrannical warlord, it was helping people in need. There was no time for sentiments or mourning. He had to move quickly so that he could rescue as many people as he could. Time was of the essence, and he could not risk allowing any of these precious moments to be wasted on watching for updates. From what he heard, most of the world's heroes were either occupied or not on world at the time of this attack.

After gathering his equipment, the blued-eyed Avenger glanced over at a belt of grenade hanging on the wall of the armory. Hoping that they would not be needed in the rescue operations, Steve thought about the threat level that the titans posed. Although he knew all too well that these grenades would do nothing against the mountainous creatures that ravaged the great city of London, he wanted to be prepared for anything. He snatched the grenade belt off the wall and strapped it onto himself. His eyes then glanced back and saw his trusted old shield lying on the table. Looking over that Vibranium shield, the Avenger reflected on his life before the serum. In his life, he had faced giants of many kinds. Despite the obstacles that he faced, he always strived to do what was right. He reached down and gently rubbed his hand over the star on that shield. This was no different than the giants he had faced his entire life.

After taking up his trusted shield and equipping himself with his gear, the Avenger headed toward one of the Quinjets. Waiting outside the Quinjet, he saw one of the S.H.I.E.L.D. strike teams that had assisted him on several missions since being discovered in that block of ice. As he approached the team, he stopped for a moment and stood before one of his most trusted allies.

"You know this is not going to be like one of our typical missions?" Captain America said as he looked over the battle-hardened men.

"Yep, we are completely aware of that, Cap!" Dum Dum Dugan said while taking out a toothpick from between his lips. "A lot of us did not just sign up to fight a bunch of crazy ass holes. Some of us actually want to help people."

Steve nodded at his comrades before looking over the team.

"Then let's load up." Captain America ordered before gesturing at the Quinjet.

He sauntered into the ship and put in the coordinates for London. With the rest of the Avengers spread all over the globe, Steve knew that this was a mission that he was going to be difficult. The doors to the Quinjet closed shut and the engines roared to life. Steve sat down as the ship lifted off the Helicarrier and soared through the skies. The AI system that Stark installed in the Quinjet announced the time that it would take to reach its destination. Steve sighed and closed his eyes. Even though the Quinjets were fast, they were not fast enough. Every moment lost would mean another moment that he could not be in the ground. It could be the matter of life or death for one of the poor souls trapped within the ravaged city.

He clenched his fist and dropped his head. It was useless to complain. It was useless to fret over the time that it would take to arrive. There was nothing the super-soldier could do to make the ship travel faster. Steve reflected on his time during the war. While he participated in countless battles, he also participated in his fair share of rescue operations. Even though he led many victorious missions, he could not forget those that were lost along the way. Every fiber of his being clung to the hope that he would not be too late. Although he feared for the worst, he hoped for the best. Even though there was nothing that he could do to make this Quinjet fly any fast, he could at least prepare his motorcycle for what was to come. As the Quinjet inched closer to their destination, Steve started to tinker with his bike. The others in the strike team joked amongst themselves as they started discussing the plan on how to maneuver through the city.

Many of them had been to London before. Some more than once and felt as if they knew the city well enough to navigate it without any issue. Despite their confidence, Steve reassured them that this was not going to be a simple mission. The aftermath of the kaiju attacks left the city unrecognizable. The Avenger also made it clear that enemies from across the globe would probably try to use this opportunity to attack. While their main goal was search and rescue, they needed to be prepared for any threats that could rise from the ashes. As the group of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents prepared their gear, the AI system that controlled the Quinjet announced that they would be arriving soon. Steve glanced up toward the cockpit then turned his direction down toward his bike. The group of agents that accompanied him gathered around to see if they could see they the smoke.

"What the hell?" One of them gasped as their eyes adjusted to the landscape.

"Take us down!" Captain America ordered while revving his motorcycle. "I will start searching for the President! I need all of you to get a permiter set up! Any survivors of this mess need somewhere to go, somewhere safe."

The back of the Quinjet opened wide and Steve drove his motorcycle out onto the ground. After circling around on his bike, he turned back to see the Quinjet hovering over a clearing to begin its descent. As he was about to turn his attention to the remains of the city, he heard a screeching sound pierce through the skies above. Steve's blue eyes caught a sight of a bright ball of energy heading straight toward the Quinjet. Before he could react, the craft and everyone aboard was engulfed in a bright flame. Steve looked on in disbelief as he watched the fiery remains of the Quinjet crash down onto the ground. Despite losing his entire team and knowing that he had been on several missions with them, the super-soldier did not have time to mourn. He had to find what was responsible for the death of his team. For the Avenger, that did not take long as he heard a powerful sound coming toward him.

Before the attack on the Quinjet,

After receiving his orders, the Gen'Dai bounty hunter looked over a tracking beacon on one of his wrist mounts. The beacon brought up the tracking fob that would lead to his target. Looking down at the destruction, Durge prepared his equipment before making his way toward the city. Each of the assassins had received different targets. Juggernat had started running toward the ruins without much of a care in the world, while Boris the Animal hopped on the back of his motorcycle. As for Syndrome, he stayed behind to watch over the teleportation device. After Boris and Juggernaut disappeared into the distance, Durge heard Syndrome say something from behind him.

"It looks like we got some company." Syndrome remarked while looking over a small datapad in his hands.

"What is it?" Durge asked.

"Not sure, but it is coming in hot. Not far from here." Syndrome replied.

"I will take care of it." Durge hissed.

"I am sure you will, big guy! I am sending you the location of our surprise guests right now!" Syndrome exclaimed.

After receiving the location of the vessel, Durge jumped onto his speeder and circled around the city. The Gen'Dai did not pay much attention to the destruction of London. His gaze turned toward the skies above. Durge soon caught a glimpse of a ship breaking through the clouds and descending towards the ground. The bounty hunter soon aimed one of his heavy cannon blasters toward the ship. After unleashing a blast from his weapon, he noticed someone riding out of the ship in what appeared to be a motorcycle. It was not long after until the blast from his cannon annihilated the ship. Even though Durge destroyed the oncoming vessel, he could not allow any survivors from that vessel. The Gen'Dai started racing toward the figure until he caught a glimpse of the star-spangled hero that he had heard about prior to his arrival on Earth. Armed with his famous shield and a belt of grenades, the super-soldier known as Captain America was driving towards the Gen'Dai.

Even though Durge found himself admiring the courage and bravery of this Avenger, he was not going to let that get in the way of seeing the mission through. The Gen'Dai's grip on the handles of his speeder tightened as he started to drive straight towards Captain America...

*********************

This battle takes place during the events of Nick Fury's battle with Boris the Animal. Captain America and a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents had arrived in a Quinjet to provide rescue operations for any of the survivors of London. The Quinjet caught the attention of Syndrome and Durge. After Captain America landed on the ground with his motorcycle, the ship was destroyed by Durge.  The entire S.H.I.E.L.D. Rescue team was killed in the explosion. Captain America has not turned his attention toward putting an end to the bounty hunter.

Captain America is on a motorcycle. He is also armed with his Vibranium shield, a pistol, and a grenade belt.

Durge is on his speeder bike. He is armed with a blaster pistol, blaster rifle, wrist mounted flamethrower, and flail.
