OVERWATCH RIVALS: THE HERO SHOOTER SECRET WARS

PART 2

 

The battlefield shimmered; whole buildings were covered in frost. Snow flurries swirled in the air, giving the Beyonder’s chosen arena a wintery glow.

On one side, Mei took a deep breath and adjusted her glasses as she readied her Endothermic Blaster. 

"I won’t go easy on you," she declared as her breath fogged up in the cold air.

On the other side, Luna Snow spun on her heel, conjuring a sphere of frost in one hand and a sharp ice blade in the other.

 "Good," she replied with a confident smile. "I wouldn’t want it any other way."

The Beyonder floated above them, arms crossed, watching with amusement. "Remember, my warriors, these battles are not to the death—only until one of you is unable to continue”

Mei went on the attack. She fired a concentrated blast of freezing energy toward Luna, but the K-pop star-turned-hero nimbly dodged it, skating across the icy terrain with precision and grace. Luna retaliated with a wave of cryokinetic energy, sending sharp icicles in Mei’s direction.

Mei ducked behind broken debris; her thick coat shielded her from the brunt of the blast. 

"You’re fast," she mumbled to herself.

 Mei pulled out her Cryo-Freeze Drone and tossed it forward.

The drone sprung to life, releasing a freezing mist in a wide arc. Luna tried to leap away, but the mist latched onto her leg, slowing her movement.

"Got you!" Mei shouted.

She fired another blast from her Endothermic Blaster. The stream of ice struck Luna’s side, encasing part of her arm in a thick layer of frost.

Luna gritted her teeth. "Not bad." 

A pulse of blue energy radiated from her body and melted the ice away.

 "But you’re not the only one who can manipulate temperature!"

Luna leapt into the air; her body surrounded by a swirling vortex of ice. She raised her arms, summoning a massive, shimmering ice wall that jutted up from the ground, separating them. Mei gasped at the sight of the wall splitting the battlefield in two.

Luna kicked off the wall, using it as a springboard to launch herself over the debris Mei was using as cover. As she descended, Luna spun, unleashing a barrage of razor-sharp ice shards.

Mei threw up a protective shield of her own, her Ice Wall blocked the attack just in time. But the moment she lowered it; Luna was already upon her.

With a quick spin-kick, Luna struck Mei square in the chest, sending her sliding backward across the frozen ground.

Mei groaned. She struggled to push herself up. She reached for her Blizzard Drone, but Luna was too fast.

"Not this time," said Luna.

She extended both hands forward. A surge of frost burst forth, completely encasing Mei in a thick layer of ice.

Mei gasped as the cold overwhelmed her, her limbs locked in place. She tried to break free, but her strength was fading fast. Luna reinforced the icy encasement to where it became impossible for Mei to break free.

The Beyonder chuckled. "And with that, the battle is decided!" 

He snapped his fingers, and the ice shattered, Mei slumped on the ground, barely conscious.

"Luna Snow is victorious! The Marvel team leads 1-0!"

Luna took a deep breath. "That was tough.”

Mei groaned as Mercy rushed over with her glowing Caduceus Staff.

"You did great, Mei," she assured her as she healed her wounds.

Tracer patted Mei on the back. "That was a bloody good fight! You almost had her!"

Reaper crossed his arms. "Almost isn’t good enough."

On the Marvel side, Star-Lord whistled. "Alright, that was cool…pun totally intended."

Moon Knight sighed. "Great. We’re gladiators now. Just wonderful."

Cloak nodded. "The Beyonder doesn’t play fair, but at least this isn’t to the death."

Luna grinned. "One win down. Who’s next?"

As the teams gathered, Hana Song, the pilot of D. Va, walked toward the Marvel side. She approached Peni Parker, who stood beside her towering SP//dr suit.

"Hey," Hana greeted. "The name’s Hana. I wanted to get the chance to meet you. I think we both know what’s in our future."

Peni nodded. "I’m Peni and yeah it figures the two mech pilots would get paired up."

Hana gave a small smirk. "You don’t seem too worried."

Peni shrugged. "No reason to be. I’ve been pulled into interdimensional battles before, it's almost never personal. You seem cool, and I don’t get any malicious vibes from you or your team."

Hana gestured to SP//dr. "So... your mech. You built it?"

Peni’s eyes lit up. "Well, not me alone, but I’ve been fine-tuning it for years. It’s neuro-linked, so I control it with my mind, not just physical inputs."

Hana whistled. "That’s impressive. I thought my rig was high-tech, but that’s next-level stuff."

Peni grinned. "What about your mech? I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like it.."

Hana glanced back at it. "That baby’s a military-grade defense unit. I got recruited to pilot it because of my skills in video games. The government figured a pro-gamer would be the best fit for a high-speed, high-precision combat mech."

"Wait, video games got you into piloting?" asked Peni.

Hana shrugged. "Yep. Turns out reflexes and tactical thinking translate well into real combat."

Peni laughed. "If we weren’t in this mess, if we weren’t here, we could have a lot of fun together."

Hana smiled. "Yeah."

Right on cue, the Beyonder reappeared, his presence washed over both groups like a wave of cosmic energy.

"And now, the next match!" he announced. "A battle of mechanized warriors! Peni Parker and SP//dr versus Hana Song and D. Va!"

Both girls sighed, exchanging a look.

"Well," Peni said and stepped back toward her mech. "Guess we better get to it."

 "Let’s give everyone a show," added Hana.

They both climbed into their respective mechs. The engines roared to life.

As Hana settled into her cockpit, Tracer jogged up to her. 

"You ready for this?"

Hana gave a thumbs up. "I know the stakes. I won’t hold back."

The Beyonder snapped his fingers, and both combatants vanished in a flash of light. They teleported to opposite ends of the cityscape arena. The next match had begun.
