Chapter 57: Phase 3: No Rest for the Weary Part II

Within the Ghost,

Kyle's eyes were closed in deep meditation. Reflecting on his path as a Jedi, he could not help but think over his journey. From his time as a stormtrooper to his battle against Jerec. Now, Kyle was a Jedi Knight in Luke's academy. He had become one of Luke's most trusted allies during this time of uncertainty. Even with Luke's deep connection with the Force, Kyle could see that his friend and Master had struggled in trying to stop the ever-growing conflicts within the galaxy. After recent events, Luke wanted nothing more than to lead a rescue mission to help save his sister. Despite his desire to help, the Force was calling him to stay with his academy. Sensing a disturbance and a threat surrounding his sister and the leaders of the New Republic, Luke called upon Kyle to help him during this time. The intriguing thought of exploring a new galaxy was something that Kyle could not pass up.

Luke sent Kyle to join up with High Republic General Hera Syndulla and the Mandalorian known as Sabine Wren. The two heroes of the Rebel alliances were somewhat reluctant to have the Jedi join them on this mission. Hera was a little more welcoming and friendly, but Sabine kept to herself. The Jedi could sense that Sabine had a slight connection with the Force, but nothing that was significant. Despite that small connection to the Force, Sabine's main skill set revolved around her Mandalorian background. Hera, on the other hand, was a strong and gifted pilot. Kyle had heard about her exploits during the Rebels' war with the Empire.

It did not take a strong connection to the Force to see that these women carried a heavy weight with them from the losses that they experienced during the Empire's rule. Kyle was not going to push and pry. He was only there to assist them in providing aide to the surviving leaders of the New Republic. The mission itself seemed simple enough, but Kyle also felt a disturbance in the Force. It was not going to be a simple mission of bringing supplies and providing aide. The Jedi was smart enough to know that something troubling was lurking in the darkness. He could sense that both Hera and Sabine felt the same way. While they were hesitant about flying with Katarn, they wanted to provide aide to the surviving leaders of the New Republic.

Growing bored of hearing the constant back and forth between Hera and her droid, Chopper, Kyle decided to go down to the lower levels of the Ghost. He wanted to continue training in his lightsaber techniques while also having some time for himself. As he placed the blinding helmet over his face, the Jedi ignited his fiery blade. With steady control, he moved the blade in a swift motion. Thinking back to previous battles, Kyle tried to think of ways that he could improve on his skills. While he slashed the saber through the air with precise move, he sensed a presence entering the lower level. It was the Mandalorian known as Sabine Wren. Without taking off his helmet, he deactivated his blade.

"Can I help you, Sabine?"

Sabine chuckled as she stepped forward. "You know, I still cannot get over how you Jedi are able to do that?"

"I bet if you continued your studies, you might actually begin to understand." Kyle replied before taking off the helmet.

"I'm not a Jedi." Sabine sighed.

"And yet you carry a lightsaber." Kyle replied with a grin.

"It belonged to a friend." Sabine said while reflecting on Ezra.

"I understand. I used to think that I was just a guy with a lightsaber." Kyle replied as he laid down the blinding helmet.

"What changed?" Sabine asked.

"I ask myself that every day." Kyle laughed. "Want me to show you a couple moves?"

"No, thanks."  Sabine muttered while turning away from him. Her thoughts started to reflect on Ezra and Kanaan. "Hera wanted me to come tell you that we are approaching the space port. We have not received any communication from it."

"I sense something is wrong. I got a bad feeling about this." Kyle replied as he holstered his lightsaber on his belt.

Kyle followed Sabine back up to the bridge. He could hear the rampant chirps and whistles coming from Chopper as they approached. Walking inside the bridge, Kyle caught a glimpse of the massive space spot that hovered over one of the moons in this distant galaxy. The lights that would typically be flashing on this massive space station were completely dark. There were no ships coming or going, and communication with the station was still down.

"I have a bad feeling about this." Hera muttered while flying around the station.

Kyle could not help but grin as it reflected his early comment to Sabine. As Kyle looked over the massive space station, he caught a glimpse of that New Republic cruiser that had ventured to the far away galaxy. He pointed at the docked cruiser and commented, "There she is." He said with a bit of concern in his voice.

"What is it?" Hera asked as she glanced back at him with those green Twi'lek eyes.

"I am not sure. I feel.... I sense something.... Terribly wrong." Kyle replied as he rubbed his hand against his face.

Seeing the distress in the Jedi, Hera shifted her gaze back toward the massive space port. "I will look for a place to port." Hera said while looking over the ship.

The New Republic found a gate not far from the New Republic vessel. Once the Ghost latched onto the space port, Chopper started spinning around and making several noises.

"What is with you, Chopper?" Hera asked while glancing back at her droid companion.

"I think you all should stay here. I will go and have a look." Kyle said while standing up from his seat.

After walking down to the latch, the trio watched as the doors to the Ghost opened. The tunnel of the jet bridge that led to the space port was dark with a few flickering lights.

"Well, this certainly looks spooky." Kyle joked as he looked down the tunnel.

"We can come with you." Hera said as he eyes looked over the tunnel and then turned toward the Jedi.

"That won't be necessary." Kyle said. "They probably just forgot to pay their electric bill."

Hera reached into her pocket and pulled out a small communication device. She handed the small device to the Jedi.

"Here is a comm...." Hera said before her expression went to visible disappointment. "Unfortunately, there is something blocking the signal."

"A lot of good this will do me then." Kyle snicked as he pushed the comm into his pocket.

"If, by any chance, you are able to get out a message then we will come to help." Hera reassured him.

"Thanks." Kyle said as the doors opened behind him.

The Jedi stepped through the doors and steadily headed down into the port. He listened while the doors to the Ghost closed behind him then proceeded forward. There was something strange about this place. An unusual smell lingered in the air around and there was not a life form in sight. There walls and floors were covered in a resin that Kyle had never seen before on any of his adventures. The further he walked into this massive space port, the more his senses alerted him of a great danger lurking inside. This space station was once filled with a great multitude of travelers, but now it was empty. The questions that started burning in his mind was where did everyone go and what happened to everyone that was here.

Kyle soon felt a disturbance. It was as if someone was in great danger. The Jedi raced to get to the lower levels. As he ventured down lower into the space port, the lights started to fade into a flicker. The resin that he saw along the walls had grown thicker and more eerie. It seemed as if he was no longer inside a space station. The Jedi felt as if he entered a whole new world. With the dim lighting and this strange resin that covered everything in sight, he felt as if he was in some sort of nightmarish world. He could sense the danger around him and a small part of him wanted to turn back. Despite that small part of him wanting to return to the safety of the Ghost, Kyle knew that there was someone deep in this place that was in trouble. The Jedi had to see this through. He had to be the light in the darkness.

A faint grunting sound soon caught his attention. Kyle's ears perked up while slowly approaching a couple massive shipping containers. The Jedi reached down and wrapped his fingers around his lightsaber hilt. Unlatching it from his belt, he took a steady breath before getting closer to the containers. With lightning-fast reflexes, he ignited the fiery blade and put it before him and a figure that lunged out at him. The figure came to a stop and Kyle quickly looked over it. It was a man covered in a strange black and white suit.

"Who are you?!" Agent Venom hissed while looking over the Jedi.

"My name is Kyle. I'm here to help." Kyle replied while looking over the man in black and white. He could tell that he was severely wounded, but the suit kept his wounds concealed for the most part. "What happened here?"

"I don't know... I am here with a group in need of aide. I came to scout out this place and I..."  Agent Venom paused as he could not believe what he had been through.

"What? What is it?"

"I ran into a monster..." Agent Venom said shaking his head. "It was the size of a ship and it had acid for blood. I... I barely escaped."

"Where it is now?" Kyle asked while looking around his surroundings.

"I don't know." Agent Venom replied. "I managed to weaken it, and got away while I could. There were more... A lot more... Much smaller but not any less dangerous. I got away as fast as I could."

"You're wounded." Kyle said as he observed Agent Venom.

"I've survived worse." Agent Venom replied while glancing down at his legs and remembering his time without the suit.

"Where is your ship? Where are the New Republic?" Kyle asked.

"They are safe. I can..." Agent Venom replied before pausing.

"I sense it to." Kyle said as his eyes started looking over the world around.

It was quiet as the two looked over the ceiling and walls. Despite the silence, the two knew that they were not alone. The silence faded as they heard a faint clicking sound. Agent Venom had his guns trained on one of the shipping containers and slowly started to approach it. The symbiote that covered his body reached out and steadily opened the door to the container. It was empty. There was a small bit of relief that came over both Agent Venom and Kyle Katarn before Flash glanced back at the Jedi. The moment was cut short as something whipped around the corner of the container. Before the already wounded Agent Venom could react, he was knocked back against the wall by a deadly force.

Kyle pointed his fiery blade at the attacker and saw the outline of a horrifying creature. The creature let out a terrifying scream before backing up into the darkness. Kyle glanced down at the unconscious Agent Venom. He then looked over his surroundings. The Jedi could hear a faint clicking sound in the darkness as it circled around him. Remembering his training, Kyle spun his lightsaber into a defensive position and waited for an opportunity to fight his enemy.

****************

The battle takes place moments after Agent Venom's battle with the Titan Xenomorph. Kyle and the Ghost crew have arrived at the space port to try and help the New Republic. With the communications being down, Kyle sensed that there was a disturbance in the space port. He traveled down to see what it could be and discovered the wounded Agent Venom. Before they could leave, the razor claws alien lunged out and knocked out Agent Venom. The Alien then crawled back in the shadows for the perfect opportunity to take out Kyle.

Kyle Katarn is armed with his lightsaber.

Kyle Katarn- battle master of the New Jedi order.

He's got this.

O, neat! The Razor Claws Alien is in a match! As much I would like the alien to win, I don’t think it could beat a Jedi. Also, I think a lightsaber would keep the alien’s acid blood from spilling out.
