Match 21354 Gozer the Gozerian vs. Vigo the Carpathian

"Death is but a door. Time is but a window. I'll be back!"
 

The final words of Vigo the Carpathian haunted those that led the rebellion against him. Despite his advanced age, he instilled fear into even the strongest of those that opposed him. To make sure that the cruel tyrant was stopped, they enacted every form of execution in him that they could imagine. The Scourge of Carpathia was poisoned, shot, stabbed, hung, stretched, disemboweled, drawn and quartered. After his death, the kingdom of Carpathia had experienced something that it had not felt in ages. The nation was at peace. For the first time since Vigo's bloody rise to power, it had come to know peace once again. Even though the nation feared the final words of the despised tyrant, they started to have hope again. Hope was lost during the bloody reign of the cruel tyrant. Hope was absent to all that dwelt within Carpathia. That is until the death of Vigo.
 

Hope returned and a time of peace began to flourish. The people of Carpathia and surrounding kingdoms had tried their best to rid the world of the wickedness that was Vigo the Carpathian. They tried to cleanse the kingdom of his loyal servants and followers. They tried to rid the world of his memory. As fate would have it, a piece of the Sorcerer's soul survived in his portrait. His memory remained ingrained in all those that had suffered under his rule. What remained of his loyal subjects took the painting of their feared leader and escaped from those that sought to hunt them down. 
 

They traveled far away from the kingdom of Carpathia. Through the harshest storms and the most unforgiving lands, they traveled until they felt that they were safe. They traveled until they felt that there was no danger pursuing them. Some had been lost along the way and several of their horses had perished due to the exhaustion. Even then, the portrait of Vigo the Carpathian survived all the trials that his followers had faced in their travels. 

 

Their journey brought them deep in the middle east. Far from any known village or kingdom, the surviving members of Vigo's followers set up camp for the night. As the group sat around the painting of Vigo, they began sing praises in honor of their fallen leader. Remembering his final words, they believed in their hearts that he would return. His death was only the beginning to what his true destiny would bring to this Earth. In his life, he often spoke of his throne of blood that sat upon a mountain of skulls. Vigo fully believed that his reign would spread to the ends of the Earth, either in this life or the next. His surviving followers held to this belief in that when he returned, they would be rewarded for their undying loyalty. 

On this night, the crescent moon shined down over the world while the air brought a slightly cold breeze. Vigo's followers prepared themselves for rest. Little did they know, they were not alone. 

Lurking in the cover of darkness, there were some that were watching them. There were some that were waiting in the darkness. The dwindling fire brought on a horrific disembodied scream from all around. The surviving followers of Vigo had jumped up from their rest to see what was making the horrific sounds. With lanterns and torches, they tried to peer outside of the camp to see what had made that sound. They soon caught sight of what appeared to be a whimpering girl sitting off to herself. They called out to her, but she did not acknowledge them. Looking around at each other, they decided to approach the girl. She was soon within arm's reach, and they called out to her again. The whimpering came to a stop and the young girl raised her head to look up at the followers of Vigo. 

 

The soft features of her face changed from a small child to that of a nightmarish specter. Her mouth dropped opened and she unleashed a deafening scream that sent shockwaves far past the camp. The followers of Vigo ran back to the camp to gather whatever weapons that they had. Suddenly, hordes of terrifying ghosts and entities rushed down upon the followers of Vigo. They emptied their guns as they shot out at the multitude of horrifying apparitions. Slashes with swords and blades, they tried fighting back against the armies of the dead.

 

Despite all of the battles that they fought in alongside Vigo the Carpathian and conquests that they participated in, they were no match against the spirits that terrorized them. Each one of Vigo's followers unleashed blood-curdling screams as the ghosts and specters circled around them. The men felt as if they would be trapped in this horror for eternity. Even when they tried to escape, a multitude of spirits would block their path and keep them trapped within their camp. The weapons that they once carried were ripped from their hands and taken far away by different ghosts that circled around them.

All hope seemed lost as armies of the dead surrounded the survivors. Every one of those ghoulish screams and the disembodied voices quickly came to an end. The hordes of spirit vanished as quickly as they had come. A gentle breeze blew through the camp as a soothing stillness had returned. The night was quiet.

With the dim light from the stars above, the men looked around at one another and started to laugh. Each one let out a sigh of relief as the horror had come to an end. At least, that is what they believed. It was not long until they found themselves surrounded by people in long, ceremonial robes. They were surrounded and they were outnumbered. There was nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. They had no way to fight after the attack from the armies of ghosts only moments prior. These men in robes inched closer to them and each one of them were armed with an assortment of bladed weapons. Vigo's followers were rounded up and placed in a circle by these men. The men spoke in a language that was unknown to the followers of Vigo, but they each would chant a name that was heard clearly throughout the camp. One by one, the followers of Vigo were beheaded. It was not an execution, but rather, it was a sacrifice. It was a sacrifice to the name that they were chanting. It was a sacrifice to Gozer the Gozerian. 
 

Even in the slaughter, the portrait of Vigo the Carpathian survived. The spirit of Vigo waited patiently in the confines of his prison while his followers were murdered by this Cult of Gozer. He waited patiently in his prison, knowing that one day he would be set free. One day, he will be able to enact his revenge upon this world and upon the followers of Gozer. The portrait of Vigo survived that fateful night and many nights that had followed after that. It was eventually founded by a group of travelers and moved across the lands. Everywhere the portrait traveled, a trail of death and destruction would follow close behind. 

 

Year: 1931
 

New York
 

People were struggling. The Great Depression had affected a majority of the population, and many had lost hope completely. There were some that were still haunted by the memories of the Great War while others were haunted by the acts that they had to do to survive during this time of economic turmoil. The world was struggling. In New York, negative emotions were running rampant as people tried to find ways to make it to the next day. It seemed as if the world was going mad. While many tried to help one another through these times, it did not stop the difficult times. People were struggling.
 

All of this was witnessed by Ivo Shandor and his followers in the Cult of Gozer. They hoped that in bringing back Gozer to the world, the powerful entity could bring about a new age. Ivo and his many followers had found areas across the United States to become the gateways for the Destructor. One of these areas was deep in the heart of New York itself. Hoping that this building would become a super-conductive antenna and portal to Gozer's realm, he watched as the construction had reached its completion. During this time, he and other members of Gozer's cult began to seek out a man and a woman that could be worthy vessels for Gozer's minions. 
 

As the Cult of Gozer began to search far and wide for these vessels, another event was taking place in the heart of New York. Another group that Ivo Shandor was a part of had come into the possession of a piece of art that had dated back several centuries. The Manhattan Adventurers Society had come into the possession of the portrait of Vigo the Carpathian. After bringing the massive painting to New York, the members of the Manhattan Adventurers Society placed the painting in Shandor's completed building for safe keeping, unaware of Shandor's true intentions for that location. 
 

One of the members of the Manhattan Adventurers Society named Wilhelm von Homburg, was left alone to keep watch over Vigo's portrait. While standing in the cold dark room, von Homburg heard a sound coming from the painting itself. Overcome by curiosity, he inched closer toward the massive paint and looked deep into the eyes of Vigo the Carpathian. A form of energy shot out of the painting like lightning and struck the member of the Manhattan Adventures Society. The image of Vigo in the painting started to move and spoke to von Homburg. 

"I, Vigo, the Scourge of Carpathia, the Sorrow of Moldavia, command you! Find me a child that I might live again!"
 

Underneath the city and in the old Pneumatic Railroad system, a River of Slime had started flowing towards the location of the Shandor Building. The supernatural activity surrounding the location had increased to unbelievable levels as Ivo and the Cult of Gozer prepared for the arrival of the Traveler. After finding two vessels for both Zuul and Vinz Clortho, Ivo and others waited until the skies began to darken. The city had become plagued by spirits of the dead as the time had come for Gozer's arrival. Zuul and Vinz Clortho were summoned in preparation for Gozer's return. Ivo and the Cult of Gozer even went as far as finding an infant child in hopes that their pure soul would be a worthy sacrifice for the arrival of the Gozerian.  

As lightning rained down from the dark skies, the portal to Gozer's realm had opened. The Destructor walked down from its thrown and appeared before Ivo and his followers. Ivo lifted the crying child as a gift for the Destructor. Before Gozer could acknowledge the small child, a loud voice could be heard from the behind Gozer's Cult.

"What was will be! What is will be no more! Now is the season of evil!" Vigo's spirit yelled as he sauntered past the Cult.
 

"Are you a god?" Gozer demand as its red eyes stared at the Carpathian.

"I have surpassed being a god! I am Vigo the Carpathian, and my rule has returned!" 
 

"Then you will die!" Gozer declared.

I tried fixing the spacing between paragraphs. The texts seems alright on my end so I really don't fix that

It basically black on a dark gray pallet so I can'r really read it. Oh well I'll just use the Read Aloud function! All hail the machines!

I really don't know. On my end, it is showing normal black letters on a white screen.

It's super dark for me as well. Probably because I'm in night mode. I highlighted it and it was easier to read.  Going with Vigo!!

Strange, I thought i was in dark mode as well. 

I wonder if it is an issue with my other matches. I don't think I did anything differently 

 

 

Edit, I stand corrected. My phone was in dark mode but the site is on day mode. 

I really don't know how to fix it to appear brighter in dark mode. I don't think I did anything different than previous matches

Ahh, got to this one on time ... 

Another great setup, Boratz, and great CBUB Match debut for Vigo.  Great way of incorporating both of their pre-Ghostbusters stories together. I remember adding both Gozer and Vigo back in the day. and I also pretty recently added Rowan from the 2016 movie. 

As for the match, the key to defeating both entities was to essentially seal them back into their respective points-of-entry to the world. I have a feeling that Vigo might have a harder time closing the gates to Gozer's dimension than Gozer would getting Vigo back into his painting. It might be close, though, since Gozer has plenty of worshippers around and Vigo has plenty of despair from the Great Depression to feed off of.
