Chapter 58: Phase 3: No Rest for the Weary Part III

Within the Ghost,

While trying to continue working on the ship's communications, Hera's mind began to drift. She thought about Jacen and the life that he would have in this galaxy. Hera did not want him to grow up in war. For Hera, it seemed all she had ever known was war. It was the same from Kanan before his death. The Twi'lek general did not want that same fate to fall upon her son. She did not want to see him become a soldier in yet another galactic conflict. As her mind drifted, she did not pay attention to the spark that shot out of one of the computers and burned her fingertip. "Ow!" She snapped while pulling back her hand. Chopper made a couple obnoxious chirps from behind her, and Hera glanced back at her companion. She sighed while rubbing her throbbing finger. Her green eyes then turned and saw the picture of Kanan sitting next to the controls.

“It is okay, Chop…” Hera said softly. “It is going to be okay. It looks like the issue is not with our comms, but from outside of the ship.”

Chopper’s round head started rotating around while a series of noises came from the droid.

“Kyle wanted us to stay behind.” Hera said with a grin. “Perhaps, I can go out and find out what is jamming the signal.”

A couple loud whistles and chirps came from the astromech droid once again.

"It'll be fine, Chop. I have a scanner that should take me to the source of whatever is jamming the signal."

The Twi'lek general opened a compartment near the pilot's chair and started shuffling through the equipment that was stored inside of it. She pulled out a device and pressed a button on the bottom with her thumb. The device lit up and it started giving off a signal. "I guess it still works." She said to herself while attaching the small device to her belt. She then glanced back at that same picture of Kanan that was sitting next to her seat. There was a bad feeling lurking inside of her chest. Even though she was not trained in the Force, she had a feeling that something was wrong. It was a feeling that had haunted her since receiving word of the attack on the New Republic in that far away galaxy. With the growing conflicts within their own galaxy, she felt that war was imminent. Knowing what horrors could come from another war, Hera knew she could not sit back and do nothing.

Making her way to the supply area of her ship, the Twi'lek general looked over the weapons that she had gathered over the years. While everything seemed quiet, she did not want to go into a situation unprepared. A grin formed across her green cheek as her eyes looked over a large container full of thermal detonators. If Zeb were there, he would take as many as he could carry, but Hera tried to keep her mind on track. This space port was commercially used by species from several different galaxies. Despite not knowing what was waiting on the other side of the door of her ship, she could not risk any potential collateral damage. On the other hand, if there was an enemy force blocking the communication signals, then Hera did not want to go with only the blaster pistol that was holstered on her belt. She reached for a blaster rifle that sat alone in a case.

Looking over the blaster and her equipment, the New Republic general nodded before turning around. Her green eyes widen once she saw a figure standing on the other side of the door to the equipment area of the Ghost. Sabine Wren crossed her arms and tilted her head. A slight smirk formed across the side of her cheek while she glared at the New Republic general.

"The Jedi told us to stay." Sabine said as she leaned back against a wall.

"I know what he said..." Hera responded with a smile. "But I am not just going to sit back and wait."

"Want me to go with you?" Sabine asked.

"No. I need you here in case the comms come back on." Hera replied.

"So, you and the Jedi get to go out and have all the fun." Sabine replied while she shook her head.

"Chopper will keep you company." Hera grinned as Chopper started whistling and spinning around in circles.

Sabine sighed and rolled her eyes.  "Joy." she said unenthusiastically.

The two former Rebels sauntered toward the door of the Ghost. Hera opened the door and watched as the latch that led to space port came into view. Thinking over the missions that she had been on with the Phoenix Cell during their war with the Empire, Hera felt somewhat confident that this would be a simple in and out. She and her crew had a history of facing off against dangerous Imperial operatives and terrifying creatures. She told herself that this should not be any more dangerous anything that she had seen before. Before proceeding toward the space port, the Twi'lek turned back to see her friend. The Mandalorian had a stoic expression plastered across her face, but deep in her dark eyes, there was a bit of concern lurking around.

"It will be fine." Hera tried to reassure her friend.

"And if it is not?" Sabine asked.

"Then that is why I have you here. If I do not return in an hour, then you can come looking for me."

"Make it thirty minutes and we have a deal." Sabine replied.

Hera grinned before patting her friend on the shoulder and said, "I've have done this before."

"It doesn't exactly make it any easier. I've already lost some family members. I don't need to lose any others."

"I will be back. I promise." Hera said before turning toward the latch that led to the space port.

Sabine reluctantly shut the door of the Ghost behind Hera. The New Republic general made her way into the larger part of the space port. A faint light from above illuminated down on the massive interior. She could see remanence of what it used to be before everything had changed. There was a stench that filled the air and a strange substance that dripped down from the ceilings. There was something off with this place. A terrible feeling came upon her as she continued walking along the different terminals. There were remains of ships scattered throughout the station. It was as if they had been torn apart. Some of the small ships appeared as if they had been covered in some kind of strange organic resin. An uneasy feeling started stirring within the former Rebel as she sauntered toward a desk. She reached down and felt a sticky something along her fingers. Before she could look at it any closer, the device on her belt started giving off an alert.

Hera wiped the substance off her hands before reaching down for the tracker on her belt. She looked over the signal and took a deep breath before following it deeper into the space port. While walking through the dimly lit corridors, the general turned on a couple lights that were attached to her equipment. The bright light from her equipment was enough to illuminate everything in her path. As she continued to follow the signal, she thought about what would happen if she ran into Kyle. Hera knew that the chances were slim as this space port was massive, but he did give her orders to stay behind. The thought soon faded once she the signal grew stronger.

In one of the upper levels of the space port, there was a small cargo ship. She did not recognize the symbols on the ship, but she realized that it must have contained some sort of jamming device that interrupted all the communication in the area. As Hera pulled out the tracker to see if it could pinpoint the exact location of the jamming device, her eyes caught onto another device that was attached to her belt. The Twi’lek reached down and looked over the scanner. Her jaw dropped once she saw that the scanner had picked up a reading. Her heart started beating faster once she realized that the scanner was picking up a living organism that was close to her location.

“Kyle, are you there?” She asked as she reached for her blaster rifle.

The New Republic general then heard a clicking sound as that same substance started dripping down from above. Her green eyes then looked up and saw a terrifying beast leap across the ceiling and into the darkness. This creature was fast and agile. By the looks of it, it was deadly. Taking a deep breath, the Twi’lek general’s tight on her blaster rifle tightened as she regained her composure. Even though she was alone, she was not going to go out without a fight. She would not go down that easily.

******************

The battle takes place around the same time as Kyle’s battle with the Razor Claws Alien. Hera has decided to search for whatever was jamming the communications. After finding the location of the jamming device, she is confronted by Ravager Alien. Can Hera stop the Ravager and destroy the jamming device, or will the Ravager Alien claim another victim?

Hera is armed with a blaster rifle and a blaster pistol.

I'm on the last few episodes of Star Wars Rebels. Kanan just died is where I'm at.

I like Hera. She's a solid character.

But she ain't surviving no Ravager Alien. The wiki says it can outmatch a Queen which is really impressive.

Like in the previous chapter of this story, the crossing of Star Wars and Alien characters is a great choice.
