Chapter 59: Phase 3: No Rest for the Weary Part IV

Something was wrong. While waiting to hear back from Hera, Sabine was overcome with a feeling of dread. She tried calling out to Hera, but whatever was jamming the communications were still active. The Mandalorian stood up from her seat and started pacing around the cockpit of the Ghost. She heard the beeps and whistles of Chopper as the astromech droid rolled around the area. Sabine glanced down at Chopper and then turned her eyes toward the photo of Kanan hanging next to Hera's seat. Silently, she dropped her head and closed her eyes. Reflecting on all the friends and family that she had lost during the war with the Empire, the Mandalorian let out a gentle sigh. A tug at her legs and an obnoxious chirping broke Sabine from her moment of silence. The Mandalorian shot a glance down to see Chopper working at getting her attention. Sabine could not help but break a smile as looked over Chopper.

"Alright, alright... I am going to check on her, but you are staying here. In case we need you to get us out on a fast get away."

Chopper whistled as his domed head rotated around.

"I know. I'm worried too, but I will be back. I promise..." Sabine said before turning her eyes toward the photo of Kanan once again.

After everyone that she had lost, she could not lose another friend. The Mandalorian reached down and patted the top of Chopper's head. The atromech droid shook and whistled as Sabine walked out of the cockpit area. Making her way toward her quarters, she remembered all the time that Ezra and Zeb argued back and forth with one another. She chuckled as a memory the shifted to Kanan coming in and trying to separate the two bickering Rebels. While not much good came from the war with the Empire, she could not help but remember the good in the family that she found during the dark times.

Sabine soon sauntered into her quarters. Reaching down for her gear, the Mandalorian started arming herself with her variety of weapons. From her painted armor to the blasters that she carried in countless battles, Sabine's memories started to run wild. She soon started reflecting to her battle with Serleena. It was the last battle that she fought on Lothal before reuniting with Hera. Serleena had several natural abilities that made her a force to be reckoned with, but she was no match for the Mandalorian. With all the skills that she acquired throughout her life as a Mandalorian and during her time with the Ghost crew, Sabine proved herself in the battle against Serleena. Even during her time of training with Ahsoka, she used all her combat knowledge and experience to defeat the deadly Kylothian.

While putting on her armor and gathering her weapons, Sabine's dark eyes soon fell upon the lightsaber that once belonged to Ezra. She remembered when he first arrived on the Ghost and even when he first started training with Kanan. Even in all their battles together, nothing prepared her for what happened in their last stand against Thrawn on Lothal. With the growing tensions in the galaxy, Sabine began to fear that these growing tensions were leading to something much worse than anything that they had experienced in the past. The Mandalorian reached down and picked that lightsaber up off the table. She strapped it against the belt on her waist and then sauntered outside of her quarters.

Approaching the doors, Sabine slipped her helmet over her face. The floors clanked with each step she made. While approaching the doors, Sabine stopped and stood over the control panel. Chopper rattled around behind her as she opened the doors to the Ghost. The Mandalorian glanced back down at the astromech droid and shrugged.

"Stay here. If this goes bad, we may need you to prepare the ship for a quick escape."

Even though, Chopper's programming did not like these orders, the red and white droid stayed behind. Sabine sighed while sauntered through the doors of the Ghost and into the latch that led to the massive space port. She glanced back at Chopper and nodded before the doors closed between them. The Mandalorian then turned her head and made her way down the corridor and into the terminal of the space station. It was quiet. An eerie darkness had fallen over the once busy space station. With the feeling that something was off, the Mandalorian reached down and took out her blaster pistols. She had turned on tracking fob that would lead to Hera.

Looking over her surroundings, Sabine noticed that there were holes in some of the floors and gaps in a couple of the walls. Upon further examination, she noticed that these areas appeared to have been melted by some sort of acidic substance. Stepping away from the walls, she then saw a strange goo dripping down from a doorway. That uneasy feeling grew worse in the pit of her chest as she turned her attention to the tracking fob. There was something here. The deeper that she traveled in the space port, the more she began to see the change in the ship. There was a strange resin that covered the floors and walls.

A sudden noise caused Sabine to spin around with her blasters drawn. She chuckled underneath her Beskar helmet as she saw a holographic image fading in and out. It was an advertisement for one of the many accommodations that this space port offered. Up ahead, she saw a doorway behind what appeared to be a counter. The Mandalorian steadily walked towards the counter and circled around it to see if everything was clear behind it. After seeing that it was clear, she glanced over at the doorway.

Sabine sauntered through the door and noticed a foul smell linger in the air. As she stepped further into this room, she saw something that almost caused her blood to run cold. Lying on the floor were multiple bodies scattered around. Walking closer to one of the bodies, she noticed a hole in the chest. At first, she thought something had ripped out the heart of these victims. Her eyes widened once she saw that the punctures were coming outward. As if something had burst out of the chest of these individuals.

A clattering noise caused the Mandalorian to jump to her feet. She spun around and aimed her blaster toward the sound of the clattering. Running out of the shadows, she saw what appeared to be some kind of rodent scurrying around different pots and pans.

“Dank farrik.” She cursed under her breath before leaving the room behind.

“What could have done that?” She thought to herself as she continued to follow the signal on her tracking fob. The Mandalorian started to fear for the worst as she thought about her friend. Whatever creature had done that was surely dangerous. Perhaps it had some kind of acidic attack that melted through the walls and floors. Several thoughts started racing through her head as she followed the signal deeper into the different sections of the space port. She then found herself in a level that appeared to be filled with a variety of crates and containers.
A faint clicking noise soon caught the attention of the Mandalorian. Trying to control her breathing and keep her composure, Sabine started looking around in all directions. She knew that she was not alone. There was something lurking around in the shadows. There was something in this dark room that was stalking her. She soon saw as a long of drool dripped down onto the floor from above her. With a quick reflect, she leapt back and looked up to see the horrific sight of a terrifying beast.

***********
This battle takes place shortly after Hera’s battle with the Ravager Alien. After having an uneasy feeling that something was wrong, Sabine decided to go and search for Hera. In her search, she found herself in a storage room where she came face to face with the Chrysalis Alien.

Sabine Wren is armed with her Mandalorian armor. She also has her two blaster pistols and the lightsaber that she inherited from Ezra Bridger.

Mandalorian Armor can tank glancing blows from Lightsabers so I think the Xeno is out of luck: neither it’s tail, acid blood, or tongue mouth is gonna harm Sabine.

The Chrysalis Alien is the first boss of the old 90's game. That means it's more powerful than the average Xenomorph. But Sabine has the right tools to survive this with her armor and lightsaber. Not to say that she can die here but I have confidence in her.

Great stuff again, Boratz. Chestbursters are always a great choice in an Alien story. Maybe expected but always unsettling.
