Chapter 60: Phase 3: No Rest for the Weary Part V

Facing off against countless pirates and mercenaries was nothing compared to where he was now. The search for Captain Flint's Planet of a Thousand Worlds had led him to this place of ancient ruins. While John Silver started exploring the relics of a past long thought forgotten, the cyborg realized that he was not alone. In this temple, he heard blaster fire. Not wanting to find himself apart of another needless battle, the cyborg did his best to avoid the conflict. Venturing deeper into this ancient temple, he used the tools that were built into his arm to detect any traps that were planted in ages past. 
 
After evading multiple traps and discovering multiple tunnels, the Pirate captain soon found himself in a closed off room. A dim link shined upon a tool that was hidden away thousands of years ago. The large cyborg linked his lips as he started walking closer toward the ancient tool. 
 
"If it is true from what they say, you will certainly get me closer to findin' that planet."
 
Reaching out with his massive hands, his large fingers encompassed the ancient Wayfinder. The pirate captain took it off its perch and looked over his price. Before he could really relish in his victorious find, the stand in which the Wayfinder sat lowered itself deep into a mechanism that was set up by the creators of this ancient temple. Silver groaned as the room started to move. The walls shifted around and closed off tombs started to reveal themselves. The pirate's eyes widened once he saw dust covered droids from long ago emerge from these ancient tombs. While they were slow to move, these droids' eyes were sparking to life and they started moving towards the intruder. 
 
 
"I think I best be goin' now!" Silver exclaimed while smacking his lips.
 
As the cyborg turned around, he saw a woman standing before him and the exit. The woman appeared scuffed up and dirty from a previous altercation. Silver assumed that she must have been one of the people involved in the blaster fire that he had heard earlier. His large dark eyes soon fell upon the blaster that she had gripped tightly in her hand. She had it pointed at the pirate captain before quickly turning it towards one of the oncoming droids. The woman blasted the droid down before she turned her attention back to John Silver.
 
 
"That belongs to me!" The woman growled.
 
"And might ya think ya be, lil' darlin'?" Silver muttered as he glanced back at some of the other droids coming toward them.
 
 
"Oh, my name is Aphra, but you won't have to worry about that. Give me the Wayfinder and I will let you leave." Doctor Aphra giggled.
 
Silver looked down at the ancient artifact and sighed. He then looked back up at Doctor Aphra. He shook his head before turning his mechanical arm into a small cannon. He shot down one of the approaching droids and then turned back to look down at the archeologist. 
 
"No can do, lil' darlin'!" Silver shouted before turning his arm cannon towards Aphra.
 
Before Aphra could shoot down the pirate, a group of droids came in between the two. Aphra shot down some while Silver plowed his way through the droids and knocked Aphra back on the ground. The cyborg made his way out of the ancient temple as the ground started to shake beneath him. He could hear Aphra behind him. He could hear the continued sounds of blaster fire coming from the archeologist. The large pirate soon found his way out of the temple, and he tried to get back to his ship. To his horror, he watched the ground open and his ship fell down deep inside the planet. He glanced back at the direction of the temple and then looked around in a panic. The traps that were set ages ago seemed as if they would claim the life of John Silver. He thought back to his life and his battles. He thought back to protecting young Jim Hawkins from the treacherous Commander Rourke, the conniving Captain Hook, and the crafty Don Karnage. 
 
Was this the end of John Silver? 
 
It was a question that came to him as rivers of lava started to appear from underneath cracks of the planet's surface. In that moment, he felt his time was near. He looked down over the Wayfinder and shook his head in disbelief. Suddenly, a beam of light shined down upon the cyborg. He looked up to see a massive ship hovering above him. The ship lower down to the surface and the doors started to open. With no other option, the cyborg made his way onto the ship. He looked back at the collapsing temple before making his way further into the ship. As he sauntered into an open area, he saw a man standing with a blaster aimed at the pirate captain.
 
Silver groaned before shaking his head. 
 
"Oh brother, and who are you?" Silver asked with a tired expression.
 
"Name's Dash." 
 
"Don't tell me, you were lookin' for this?" Silver said while raising his hand to show off the Wayfinder.
 
"As a matter of fact, yeah..." Dash said with a grin. "I was... Until that Doctor Aphra gave me a little trouble. Before I could finish her off, you set off those traps." 
 
 
"Sorry 'bout that." Silver said while gritting his teeth. His massive fingers practically engulfed the Wayfinder as he buried his deep in his jacket pocket.
 
"No problem. At least when she went to find you, I got back to my ship here." Dash replied while gesturing at the Outrider."
 
 
"So, where does that leave us?" John Silver asked while glaring at the smuggler.
 
 
"You tell me..." Dash replied. "I am the one that rescued you from certain death and I am the one that has a blaster aimed right at the massive head of yours."
 
Before the cyborg could respond to the smuggler, he felt a vibration in his jacket pocket. The same pocket that he placed the ancient Wayfinder. He felt the ancient artifact burning his pocket. He quickly reached into his pocket and tossed the artifact down on the floor. He let out a grunt from the artifact burning his hand. Both men watched as a bright light started to radiate out of the relic. Soon a blinding light filled the cabin and then a loud overpowering noise took hold of the ship. Then everything stopped. The light had faded, and the sound had died out. The Wayfinder was no longer sitting on the floor but was now hovering in the air. Dash's eyes widened once he saw two figures standing on the other side of the floating relic. 
 
"Who are you? How did you get on my ship?" He asked in disbelief.
 
 
One of the figures, a small green creature, gazed up at the smuggler. "Ask not who we are, but where we are going next."

Now

A loud pounding started coming from the other side of the door that led to the New Republic cruiser. Soldiers and guards watched over the doors with their blasters ready for battle. The tension grew once they heard a screeching sound following the horrific pounding. Scratching soon started to fill the cabin as whatever was making that sound was trying claw its way inside. Soon the sound of a lightsaber could be heard followed by terrifying screams. 

"Get ready, everyone!" The captain of the guard hollered while his eyes were glued to the door. 

The Punisher and Elektra soon made their way toward the door with their weapons ready. Soon, the metal doors opened revealing the dark latch on the other side. Standing with a lightsaber drawn was Kyle Katarn. Flash Thompson stumbled in from behind the Jedi and collapsed inside the cruiser.

"What happened?" The captain of the guard asked. "Who are you?"

"My name is Kyle Katarn. Jedi Grandmaster Luke Skywalker sent me to help."

"What happened?" Frank asked while looking down at Flash.

"The ship...." Flash as the symbiote detached from his body. "It's been overrun."

"By what?" Frank asked.

"I don't know... Some kind of creatures. The source of it was from some transport vessel. Some ship with the name Sizhran Transport Systems." Flash said while continuing to recover.

"Sizhran? I've heard that name before." Leia said as she approached the group.

Kyle's eyes turned towards the New Republic senator. A slight grin formed on the side of his cheeks as he turned towards the former Princess of Alderan. 

"It is good to see you safe, your highness." 

"Let me guess, Luke sent you?"

While Leia and Kyle conversed, Flash briefed Frank and the other New Republic guards about the creatures that they encountered. His battle against the titan xenomorph had weakened him and the symbiote to the point that he barely escaped with his life. While he continued to tell them about the terrifying monsters, Kyle and Leia spoke amongst themselves.

"Do you even have to guess?" Kyle replied.

"Did you come here alone?" Leia asked as her eyes moved over the group.

"I came here with Hera Syndulla and Sabine Wren in the Ghost. I...."

"Hera is here?" Leia interrupted. "Where is she?" Leia's eyes looked over the group of guards trying to see if she could spot her friend.

"I left her behind in the Ghost so that I could scope out the space port. I..." Kyle said before pausing. "I sense... Danger..."

"She is in trouble." Leia said before her heart sank. "I sense it too."

"If these beasts are as dangerous as we have been told, then it is far too dangerous for us to leave. We may have to detach from the space port and find resources elsewhere." The captain of the guard said reluctantly.

"We have to get word to the Ghost crew. They are in danger!" Leia ordered.

"I'm sorry, senator but your safety and the safety of the remaining New Republic leaders are far too important. We have to prepare for departure.

As the captain of the guard left with Kyle Katarn to inform the rest of the leaders about the recent events, a sudden realization fell over Leia. "Sizhran... I remember where I know that name from... That was the family that Prince Xizor had originated from." Leia said to herself. With this sudden realization, she started putting the pieces together in her head. Xizor must have survived. That criminal scum must have orchestrated all of this somehow. He brought these creatures here. He was jamming the signal to all the communications so that the New Republic would be trapped with these beasts. The signal hammers must have been on that transport ship that Agent Venom found.

The New Republic senator turned her head towards a wall in the cabin. After pressing a screen, a case opened up to reveal a multitude of blasters. Taking a small blaster pistol, she strapped it into a holster on her hip. The former Rebel then grabbed a blaster rifle. Leia then reached down for a thermal denoator. Knowing that she would need something to destroy the jammer and Xizor's ship, she wrapped her fingers around the powerful explosive and looked over it for a moment. She then placed the explosive on her belt. Before turning her eyes towards the door that led to the latch, she heard a sound from behind her. The former Princess turned to see Elektra standing behind her.

"I have to go. I have to save my friend. I have to destroy the signal jammer so that no one else falls into this trap!" Leia pleaded.

"I will not stop you. Do what you must." Elektra said as she gazed over the senator.

Leia opened the door then turned to look back at the deadly assassin.

"Keep these doors close until my return."

Elektra nodded before closing the doors in front of Leia. She turned back to see the empty cabin and knew she had to tell the others before the cruiser departed. The deadly assassin made her way to meet up with Frank Castle and Flash Thompson to update them about Leia's decision. 

Walking through the latch, Leia started preparing herself mentally for what she could possibly face. As she walked into a large section of the space port, she the emptiness. It was eerie. For a place filled with countless traveling species from all across the universe, the place was empty. It was quiet. The former Rebel leader looked around for a moment before pushing forward. Making her way down to the area that Flash had told her about, she found that some of the bodies of the creatures that both Kyle and Flash had faced earlier. Looking over the terrifying beasts, the former Princess of Alderann, closed her eyes and started thinking of the dangers that Hera would be facing. She could not allow her friend to fall victim to these monsters. 

As she looked over the bodies, she noticed steam had started rising from where the blood had dripped from the wounds of these creatures. The acidic blood had ate away at different sections of the space port. Avoiding the corpses and the hazardous blood, Leia soon found another route to take. 

To her horror, she found that sections had flooded with the massive space station's water system. Looking over the area, she tried to see if there was a way that she could make it across the water and to the other side. While looking over her surroundings, she almost gagged at the stench. Unsure if it was from rotting corpses or the plumbing that was more than likely swimming inside the water before her, Leia stumbled back and leaned up against a wall to think.

As she tried to think of another way, something caught her attention. The New Republic senator's eyes shifted and looked at the murky water before her. There was a movement in the water. Her grip on her blaster rifle tightened as she steadily pushed herself away from the wall. She aimed the blaster at the rifle and cautiously took a couple steps towards the opposite direction.

Before she could escape, she watched a massive creature emerge from that filthy water. It let out a horrifying screech as it turned its attention towards the former Princess of Alderann. Remembering all the battles that she had faced in the war and all that she had survived during the Battle of the Titans on Earth, Leia was not going to let this creature claim her life. She gritted her teeth and aimed her blaster rifle at the beast.

This takes place after Kyle's battle with the Razor Claw Alien. Kyle manages to rescue Flash Thompson after his escape from the titan alien. They make it back to the New Republic cruiser. While there, both Flash and Kyle inform the crew about the creatures. Kyle also reports that he was sent there with Hera and Sabine. The New Republic security chief decides it is best to depart the space port with the cruiser and take their chances in finding resources elsewhere. Leia does not want to leave without making sure that Hera and Sabine are safe. She sneaks into the space port with some weapons. After making her way to a section that had been flooded with the space stations water and plumbing system, she is confronted by a swimmer alien.

Leia Organa is armed with a blaster rifle, blaster pistol and a thermal detonator. 

***On a side story, John Silver from way back in the arc has returned in his search for Treasure Planet. His search has led him to an ancient force temple where Dash Rendar and Doctor Aphra are fighting. He manages to get the ancient Wayfinder device but inadvertently sets off several traps. He escapes Doctor Aphra and the traps only to be rescued by Dash Rendar. While aboard the Outrider, he accidently activates the Wayfinder which opens a portal and brings a couple more guests upon the ship.

Leia's experience, equipment, and resolve to protect Hera and the New Republic give her the edge, especially with a powerful explosive like the thermal detonator in her arsenal. But the odds are only slightly in her favor due to the swimmer alien having absolute home-field advantage.
