FINAL GIRL FACE-OFF

THE FINALS

Β

MAUREEN EPPS VS. CRYSTAL MAE CREASY RESULTS

Β

ANTONIO BAY - NIGHT

Β

Fog rolled thick through the coastal town; it consumed the streets in an eerie silence broken only by the ghostly clang of ship bells. Ghost pirates, the vengeful spirits of those lost at sea, had returned.

Crystal Mae Creasy crouched behind a decaying car. She clutched a flashlight and a flare gun in her hands. She remained skeptical of the supernatural, but she wanted to help the town from whatever these intruders were.Β

CRYSTAL MAE CREASY: Okay... these freaks are just cosplaying pirates. Ain’t nothing I can’t handle.

She watched them approach. One of the ghostly figures materialized, dragging a hook through the mist. Crystal fired the flare gun into the air, alerting the others to the specters' location. She sprung from cover and charged with a crowbar.

CRYSTAL MAE CREASY: You want some?!

Her blow passed harmlessly through the ghost. It grabbed her by the throat. As she was lifted into the air, her eyes widened. She struggled and choked.

CRYSTAL MAE CREASY: Not... fair...

The fog claimed her with a sickening crunch.

Maureen Epps remained in the old lighthouse with the descendant of Antonio Bay’s founders she had been instructed to protect.

MAUREEN EPPS: These aren’t men. They’re spirits. They want justice. We don’t fight them. We survive them.

Maureen lit candles and formed a protective circle with salt and iron shavings.

LOCAL WOMAN: Will this work?

MAUREEN EPPS: Can’t be sure, but it’s worth a try. I did some research after a bad encounter on a ghost ship. This is what I found.

The fog pressed against the windows. The ghostly crew arrived, they clawed at the walls but could not breach the circle. Maureen stood firm, holding a protective charm. She kicked over a chest full of treasure that took the attention of the vengeful spirits who were pleased to have some of their stolen booty returned to them. Maureen motioned to the woman to keep moving and they made their way through the lighthouse. The local woman pointed to a nearby window.

LOCAL WOMAN: It will be dawn soon we have survived.

Maureen was relieved but only one response came to her lips.

MAUREEN EPPS: I just want to find a place without ghosts...

HOST CHECK-IN

Β

Elvira clapped enthusiastically as she sat up on her couch.Β

ELVIRA: Woooo! Maureen Epps, you can ghostbust with me anytime.

Her co-host, Randy Meeks, nodded.

RANDY: That was a close one. Crystal gave it her all, but you need more than guts and military training to fight the paranormal. Maureen’s supernatural experience? That made the difference. She refused to allow herself to be caught off guard in dealing with a ghost again, and it showed.

ELVIRA: Speaking of being caught off guard, I must admit I’m a little caught off guard myself. We’re finally here. The Finals of the Final Girl Face-Off Tournament is about to begin.

RANDY: This is it, folks. The blood, sweat, tears, and various monster carcasses have all led to this. The Final two Final Girls of the tournament, Nancy Wheeler versus Erin Harson. Not the twosome I would have initially picked to make it all the way, but these two have more than proven their bonafides.Β

ELVIRA: Oh, honey. These two butt kicking babes are so badass.

RANDY: Erin Harson. The only Final Girl who doubled as her own version of a slasher. Started with animal-masked home invaders and only went up from there. Since participating in this spectacular tournament Erin has been responsible for some gnarly deaths. Leatherface? Gone. Dracula’s brides? Staked. A xenomorph? Crisped.

ELVIRA: Her kills were so creative they should be displayed at the MoMA. Brutal beauty, baby.

RANDY: And then we have Nancy Wheeler. From Hawkins to hell and back. She’s fought Demogorgons, spiders made of human meat, and even the telekinetic and telepathic Vecna. In this tournament alone she’s put down a werewolf,Β  taken down Pennywise, and persevered with a group of survivors in a mall overrun by zombies.

ELVIRA: She had taken on monsters of the mind, the body and the soul. No wonder she’s made it this far.

RANDY: She’ll need all of that and more. Because this final challenge? It’s the ultimate test.

ELVIRA: Spill it, Meeks! I’m bursting with anticipation! I'm practically spilling out of my gown.

RANDY: Nancy and Erin are heading to Outpost 31... in Antarctica. That’s right. Their final foe? The Thing.

ELVIRA: Cold-blooded! And I mean that literally. Shape-shifting, bodysnatching, paranoia-inducing, intergalactic nightmare fuel.

RANDY: A stroke of genius by the Powers That Be. This won’t be like any of their previous battles. There are no easy tells. No jump scares. The Thing hides, waits, infiltrates. And if they want to win?

Elvira’s eyes widened.Β

ELVIRA: They might have to kill each other. And darling, I’m here for it.

RANDY: Up to this point, even though the Final Girls were competing against one another they were never pitted up squarely against one another.

ELVIRA: That can all change in this final match.

RANDY: I’m betting that it does. It will take intelligence, guile, bravery, and more to survive Outpost 31.

ELVIRA: I know you are also dying with anticipation, boils and ghouls, so let’s take you to the action.

SHACK OUTSIDE OUTPOST 31 - ANTARCTICA

Β

The wind howled. Ice crunched beneath the boots of ERIN HARSON and NANCY WHEELER as they stepped inside a weathered shack, breathing into their scarves.

Nancy shivered.

NANCY WHEELER: I thought that mall with the zombies was going to be the ultimate hell. But I never expected... this. Are we being sent here to freeze to death?

ERIN HARSON: The last round I was sent to space... and it felt warmer than this.

They removed their parkas to reveal layers of flannel and thermals.Β

ERIN HARSON: Where do you think our guide is for this challenge?

NANCY WHEELER: Not sure. But I was given a tape.

Nancy revealed a VHS tape with a sticky note attached it to it reading β€œPLAY ME”

ERIN HARSON: VHS?! What’s next, dial-up internet? Is there even a VCR here?

The two Final Girls searched through the shack and found a TV and VCR combo player sat upon a table with two chairs. They exchanged a glance. Nancy pushed the tape into the VCR, and they sat in front of the screen. After some brief static, Randy Meeks appeared with a nervous grin.

RANDY (ON TAPE): Hello, Final Girls. You’ve made it. This is the Finals.

Both women straightened up. The news hadn’t been revealed to them until this moment. Inside each of them was a mix of pride for having made it this far mixed with a twinge of bittersweetness for the other heroic Final Girls who had fallen during the tournament.

RANDY (ON TAPE): First, congratulations. You’ve done what no one else could. But now you face... something different.

NANCY WHEELER: Of course we do.

RANDY (ON TAPE): The Thing is not a killer in the traditional sense. It’s a shape-shifting parasite from out of this world. Its goal is to assimilate other lifeforms; it wants to consume and overtake its environment It copies and mimics... perfectly. It could be anyone in the station, even your fellow finalist. Anyone but you.

ERIN HARSON: So, we can’t trust anyone.

RANDY (ON TAPE): You’ll be joining a team of scientists who are already under suspicion. Your goal: find the Thing. Kill it. And if necessary... survive each other. Good luck.

The screen went black.

NANCY WHEELER: The fact that the final challenge is something like this is sick and twisted.

ERIN HARSON: This whole tournament has been sick and twisted. But if it means finally ridding the world of this evil, I will do what I have to. I didn’t come this far to freeze or fail.

Erin and Nancy locked eyes.

NANCY WHEELER: I feel the same way. For my family and friends, I will not hesitate. Let’s finish this.

This will be a tough one, especially if both are going against the Thing. I'll have to think on itΒ
